Natural forms, clean silhouettes – Eden landscapes intertwine with industrial interiors. In today’s digital age, the consumer is offered a sanctuary amongst the chaos of daily life - green spaces and overgrown textures of wood, petals and plants juxtapose against the harshly modern aesthetic that has been used for the last decade. Goffman believes that interactionism is vital for consumers. He viewed society through the symbolic interaction perspective and in terms of visual merchandising, naturism alludes a meaning of un-superficial harmony in a materialistic industry.

The trends in Berlin seen in Bikini Berlin and Panorama Trade Show showcase the advanced and state of the art subjects that have been led by recycling and organic materials. The plastic age are finally being pro-active and innovative through the salvage motive trend and standing out from the crowd through their eye catching visual merchandise. From lights to tables, art works to displays, salvage motive has taken over.

Urban Platoon is a concept that has been around for many years, however the aspects of this trend has differentiated from the early 2000’s to 2015. Although the prints may remain the same, the shapes, colours, textures and fittings have been altered to fit in with a more contemporary and minimalist aesthetic. The styling also creates a more subtle yet creative ambience. This trend romanticises the World Wars, offering an updated approach to the nostalgic ‘hero’ from an era that celebrated patriotism and community spirit. Urban Platoon will always return and change for society.

Monochrome has always been popular however this current trend has been readapted into a wild spectrum of patterns. The naked eye is tested with these new extremes: Houndstooth, spirals and floral transforms into an optical illusion. Theres something comforting about tonal markings in this crazy world particularly when it’s structured into grids, logical stripes, and figure flattering contrasting lines. It’s a fun playful trend that often re-appears when you least expect it to. Sophisticated monochrome and tonal markings - a key trend within print and graphics.

The soft and delicate fabric has always made a big impact in the fashion world. With the focus on neutral yet dramatic tones. This trend will maintain it’s supremacy especially in menswear. Suede stays is upon us, Everywhere we look now , we see suede, especially within Menswear clothing and accessories. Suedes comeback from the seventies heyday has allowed the rich fabric to take full force within designers and high street collections such as Siberian and Nasty Gal. It has also been a key trend within Berlin trade shows such as Seek.

Fur pushes boundaries and adds a sense of luxury and elegance to men’s outerwear. Casual luxe meets clean avalanche with the contrast of two fabrics and the Ice Cold tones that will always compliment each other for the winter seasons. The fur parkas were seen repetitively within Berlin’s streets, shops and tradeshows such as Seek, Bright, Panorama, Show & Order and Premium. Along with the neutral colours of Ice coal and Mountain Grass , Swiss cherry red is trending .

The 70’s – a hybrid of casual sexiness and disco sophistication. From interior design to the beige leather on the backseat of your boyfriends dad’s Chevrolet – the mood is back. Modest shades of burnt orange, pale blue and an array of browns meet to create a sense of fun nostalgia. This trend takes the consumer away from the current global environment of violence and war, and instead offers a nostalgic hark back to a more humble time of hand knitted jumpers, flairs and middle partings.

Clean modernism is ambiguous. From the lines to the textures, to the softness to the harshness. The subtleness of this trend has remained popular since the Zen decade of the 90s. However this has been modified into more of a lifestyle. Life for these people is pretty smooth, only black and white selfies and French Avant garde films – A minimal pallet is all they need in terms of the creativity and direction. The Pallette ranges from ‘soft stone’ to ‘clouded ash’ to ‘dusty grains’.

According to Vogue’s ‘Equal Opportunity’ trend, fashion is moving beyond the straightforward concept of borrowing from the boys towards a unrestricted, liberating grey area where clothes are gender-neutral. Causing less confusion to both genders, this trend is no right or wrong answer. No barriers, no discrimination. This contemporary society shows it’s acceptance towards this new development for forward thinking. Rad Hourani - a Canadian unisex fashion designer is one to watch out for. His ‘work is an attentive study of the human body that celebrates neutrality as a defining human trait.’
