HELLO,
Welcome to the first issue of OFF magazine. Some say sleep is deaths cousin, we say sleep is the cool aunt who owns a Ford fiesta, but the interior is mega. In this issue, we explore the quiet spaces of nice people from across the globe; our pages show them in their true sloth-like forms, and we couldn’t be happier. This is a look inside the turtle shell; we discuss the connection between personality and personal space. There are no judgments here, when you’re in your bubble, you’re free to be yourself and we love that. Now sit back, remove that tension and have a flick through – and if you really want to break our hearts, rip some pages out for your bedroom walls. Love, the laziest people ever Your editors – Elle, Matt and Liat p.s. there is nothing cooler than staying in bed

SUNDAYS IN COPENHAGEN
I was born and raised in Derby which is in the East Midlands. The city is small and if you don’t bump into the same person atleast twice in a week, they probably died. I moved to Denmark a year ago where I work as a Archivist in the Danish Design Musueum. I enjoy every minute of it. Everything in the city is spaced out and laid back like the people. Finding my flat was a miracle because the price and quality of accomodation in Denmark is super expensive and rare. I spend so much time in my room, it’s like my safe haven and vault of all things Abbey. Being myself is so important but in a society of higher selves and misconceptions, I stick to being a weirdo ABBA wannabe in the comfort of my own room.

1. He is lead screamer and the tits of Brighton-based, funky metal band Fuoco (pronounced FWOAH-KO). 2. Like a typical lad, he is obsessed with West Ham United 3. Above you can see his fresh strawberry locks, although his previous colour was inspired by Pam Anderson; a platinum beach babe 4. He describes his bed as an intellectual space that is ideal for fine dining and playing on his guitar, or plastic mini-keyboard 5. The best thing about his bedroom is that it’s a basement flat, so he can people-watch to his hearts delight 6. His favourite month is July because it’s the most reliable time to wear a summer dress to the beach and not get chilly @Fuoco

SUNDAYS AT KT’S
KT.
Kt wants sleep all day and all night because she can’t cope with blue light! No seriously, she has a diagnosed sleep disorder, which means her bed has to be more exciting than the average humans. Kt could be described as a restful chicken; she needs to be kept at a cool temperature overnight, and left to defrost before jumping out of bed.

SUNDAYS AT KT’S
1. She has one fake front tooth – the real one was lost when she tried to skateboard (for the first time), while holding on the back of her friend’s Corsa 2. Her room has an exotic aroma of vanilla incense, weed and nail polish 3. Coincidentally, her nails are always a pristine shade of crimson; she swears she paints them in her sleep 4. ‘Daisies’ (1966) by Vera Chytilova is her favourite film 5. She takes photographs of people, and likes to have something creepy going on in them 6. Most of her clothes are hand-me downs from the elderly people her mum looks after

IN BED WITH MARIJA
What do you like about your room? I like how spacious and light it is. I swear, best room I’ve had, even better than my home’s one. Light aspect is probably the most important one, couldn’t live in a dark room. If you could sleep in anyone’s room, who’s would it be? I’d like to sleep in Ernesto Neto’s room because his installations are incredible and he probably has a similar vibe to his room like mine. Also wouldn’t mind checking out Yayoi Kusama’s room, that lady is goals. and I’d love to sleep in ‘Four Let’s’ room just because he’s got the best music taste in the world and I wouldn’t mind going through his collection. What do you do before you sleep? I always watch Desperate Housewives before I sleep because I’m addicted, but it’s been like this just for the past 2 months. Normally I just smoke a zoot and yeah, watch something short or read. I used to do the headspace thing as well. What do you do in bed besides sleep? I do everything in bed to be honest because it’s on the floor so it’s like a chair, a couch. I’m on my bed now, half naked doing work and answering this. I don’t eat in bed though. My whole room is very low if you know what I mean, I like doing everything on the floor or in bed. What music do you listen to in your room? Literally all the music I like. Mainly techno, 90s house, a bit of funk. I’ve got some sick sound systems which my friend lended to me for a month, so just playing tunes on full volume. What’s the most fun experience you’ve had in your room? One day, we got really fucked. It was the first night I moved in so millions of stuff was around and had nothing usable except a mattress. A few mates came over and we just played music till 10 in the morning dancing, laying around in duvets and blankets.

IN BED WITH SONIYA
Soniya is the founder of DASKOLLEKTIV. EU, an online platform documenting artists in their work spaces, depicting their creative story through conversation. Despite having moved 3 times in the past year, Soniya consistently manages to create the coolest environments in her room from creating a sleep den in a closet to using second hand stone slabs as a desk, Soniyas room is a space of positive and cool energy that would be super expensive if it was a sell-able object. An avid listener of submotion orchestra and DJ Premier, we spoke to Soniya about what she would love to have in her room. “I think I’d like all of my favourite artists and musicians just laying on my bed taking turns in talking about their lives while I munch on a bowl of my favourite fruit. What a dream.”

1. In the dark winters, her bed doubles as a scattered library and she sleeps between mid-century classics 2. Ice hockey is a past time, and she holds it responsible for her wonky nose 3. July is her favourite, because the sun is up for extra hours and the city is full of people having fun and getting drunk 4. July is also her least favourite month because “shaving the legs” 5. The most special thing about her bed is that it’s a single, so pretty practical for getting rid of one night stands 6. Her biggest secret: she’s not a natural blonde, even the brows are a lie

LIFE IMITATES ART - ANN
What do you like about your room? I live in a small apartment, so one room is all I have, but that is what I like about it. I have three windows, so there is a lot of good natural light. And a fireplace. And all the things between because I am very consciously selected the things I surround myself everyday. What do you think about before you go to sleep? I think the bed time routine, like washing my teeth, is already a signal to my brain to calm down and I don’t have to think about something specifically to have that same kind of effect. Where do you feel most inspired? A lot of places, situations and people can make me feel inspired, but I feel that the most important part of it is to motivate myself after that particular moment has passed. When I’m at home behind my desk and I have the possibility to really make something out of that experience. If you had to work or live in any person’s room dead or alive, who’s would it be? I would have loved to work with Ray and Charles Eames. What inspired you to create work days/ rest days? As an artist I am interested how everyday surroundings and people in them melt somehow together. How the space where I am creating, day to day routines and objects around me are influencing what I create. And work days / rest days also refers to this kind of symbiosis. What’s the most fun experience you have had in your room? I like the question haha. The most recent one was when I was filming my brother and sister interact with objects I built for an art project. And because these objects deliberately have no purpuse and they are nonfunctional, it was quite confusing and funny task to do and watch. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up? I lay in bed, maybe 10 minutes, until I feel like waking and then I open a window and start to make my breakfast. If you could have anything in your room what would it be? Out of all the things I would be really happy to own a high quality printer!

All at once they had become two people standing on opposite sides of an enormous river, the great divide that had poured itself between them. She felt that if she would open her mouth the words would die halfway and quietly fall into the river. She felt that if she’d try and do something, anything, it would just drown in the river slowly sinking to the bottom. All at once it was as if the river had sucked them whole and spat them out on opposite sides, leaving them as strangers who could merely look at each other from a distance.

The Japanese do not sleep on beds, they sleep on a mat called Tatami. This simple mat is spread out on the floor and in the morning when they wake, it is rolled up.
You literally live in your bed. A person normally spends about a third of their life sleeping.
部屋
Being lazy is okay. Making your bed has always been a diabolical chore, but did you know that it’s actually more hygienic to leave your bed unmade. Dust mites flourish on the moist and warm enviroment of the neatly made bed. Being lazy can save your life.
The principles of Feng Shui bedrooms suggests that it is discouraged to face your bed directly infront of the door, as well as having the foot of the bed in direct line with the door, as this is called the “Mortuary Position”.
Beds are lethal. Around 20 people die from falling out of bed every year in the UK.

THE PILLOW HUGGER The bed hippies place high value on their social lives; they have a strong emotional bond with friends and family and tend to go out of their way to please others.

SLEEP 411
This position involves the individual lying on their side with their legs straight and arms by their sides. Log sleepers are highly sociable, and very trustworthy.
THE LOG
THE SOLDIER
This position involves the individual sleeping on their back, with their arms straight down at their side. Night soldiers are very organised and rigid; the high achievers of the bunch.
SLEEP 411
Possibly the rarest sleeping position of them all, this involves lying on your back with your arms either side of your head. These quirky sleepers are often loyal friends, and great listeners.
STARFISH
BELLY BABY As the name implies, the belly babies sleep on their front with their head tilted to one side. While these sleepers are free-spirited and happy people, they are often secretly anxious under the surface.
99
100
This position involves the individual sleeping on their side with their arms streched out in front of them. People who choose this position are often friendly and inviting. However, they can still have their guard up and can be suspicious.
YEARNER
This position is the most popular amongst sleepers. The individual sleeps on their side with their legs curled up. Those who sleep this way are portrayed as having a strong and independant exterior but on the inside are very shy and timid.
