H i, my n a me is L ib by M a n n ing. I am a passionate and dedicated designer. I thrive on creatively solving problems and producing new solutions. My inspiration stems from drawing, 3D CAD modelling and rendering but I do have a love for the whole design process. I am motivated to work alone or be a key member of a group to reach the best outcome. I have a positive outlook on any design task thrown my way. O N E ST EP FOR W A R D PROSTHETIC LEGS FOR CHILDREN IN AFRICA Prosthetic legs are expensive and time consuming to manufacture in third world countries within Africa. Children rapidly outgrow their prosthetics and need replacements every 6 - 12 months. This project looks at solving these issues with modular design and rapid manufacturing techniques.

F INAL P R O TOT YPE After initial sketch modelling and finalising sketches I created my final prototype. My inspiration stemmed from 3D printing. It is a rapid prototyping manufacturing method so I wanted to apply it within my designs. 3D printing allows the prosthetics to be quickly manufactured and to the correct size of the childs stump. The corset design stems from the original 20th Century prosthetic designs. The toggle adds a simple modern twist for easy use for children.

E X PLO DED VIEW

S H IP P I NG I would ship my prosthetics by cargo ship as it is less expensive than by plane and can take lots of heavy containers in one go. The crates will go to different hospitals in Africa. At first, they will go to the richer parts that have basic technology installed. The first crate they receive will contain, a 3D printer for the to print the parts, a body scanner to scan the stump to get the shape to print the socket, PLA filament, cut to size inserts for the socket, an instruction manual and the rest of the parts to make the prosthetic in a range of average sizes using anthropometric data.

I NST RUCT IO NS INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR ASSEMBLY OF PROSTHETIC In the instruction manual there is a step by step guide (shown to the right) on how to assemble the prosthetic legs. Within the manual there will be many other guides such as setting up the 3D printer, how to use the body scanner, how to print using a 3D printer etc. The guides will be written in the main language of the area they’re being shipped to. However, they will be mainly illustrated to be clear and easy to understand.

WEIGHT LIFTING SHOE WITH ADJUSTABLE HEEL HEIGHT Current weightlifting shoes can not be used for all types of lifts. Weightlifting shoes are raised at the back and designed to help users with squating. However, they can not be worn when deadlifting as flat feet are required. As a result, the power lift enables you to adjust the heel height when weight training, ensuring the user does not need to remove or change their shoes whilst training.

APP APP THAT CONNECTS WITH THE WEIGHT LIFTING TRAINERS The app allows users to see the ehight of the heel so they can adjust it to their desired size. The app can also be used as an overall fitness app, it could contain a food diary for macro tracking, recipes, a progress tracker, programs to use in the gym and a measurements log.

US E R STORYBOA R D IN USE STORYBOARD Storyboard demonstrates how the shoes are used and altered using the app.

User goes to the squat bar whilst heel in power lift trainer is raised.

User squats with raised heel using power lift trainer.

User finishes squat to change to deadli a flat foot is neede down, opens app height. When read they take the plug the butt

ting and wants ifts. To deadlift ed. User bends to check heel dy to change out and press ton.

Once the button on the side of the shoe has been pressed, the shoe begins to release air from the heel. The phone app allows the user to see the height of the heel on their mobile phone.

Once the desired height is reached the user plugs the heel back up and proceeds to perfom their next lift.

IMP O ST E R CO M PO STE R A COMPOSTER IN DISGUISE AS A RAISED FLOWERBED Gardening and composting has skyrocketed in 2020 due to COVID-19 lockdown. However, currently composters are an eyesore in peoples gardens. Raised flower beds are a garden trend set for 2021. Combining the two is a perfect way to enhance the look of composters.

GA R D EN TRE ND R E S E A R C H :

GARDEN TRENDS OF 2020:

PREDICTED GARDEN TRENDS OF 2021:

Raised garden beds: A good choice for smaller gardens or for people who lack mobility and less bending down is needed.

Orders for the Seed Co-operative were six times higher than last year.

White Gardens: The plants and furniture are all white on a dark background to really bring out the colour. A very modern style.

A third of English councils stopped green waste bin collections creating an increase in popularity for composting.
