THE HOME FOR
PROGRESSIVE
LOS ANGELES We take the guesswork out the giving.
WHO WE ARE L.A.’s leading social justice foundation, funding and sustaining grassroots organizing for racial justice for more than 40 years.
WHAT WE BELIEVE The people most affected by injustice should be leading the fight for change, fairness, and equity.
OUR VISION An equitable society for all, including those shut out of our democracy or cut off from opportunity because of their skin color, gender, sexual orientation, or zip code. We seek to Change the Narrative... Change the Rules...and Change the Game to create a more just Los Angeles.
WHAT WE DO Provide critical funding, training, and capacity building to our community partners leading grassroots organizing for racial justice.
HOW WE DO IT Educate, create radical partnerships, and convene organizers around the county to affect change.
CHANGING THE GAME Los Angeles has the nation’s largest homeless population.
Los Angeles is the largest urban oil field in America.
Los Angeles is the mass incarceration capital of the nation.
Too many Angelenos don’t have the same opportunities to be as healthy as others. This is why Liberty Hill is fighting to ensure that everyone has a roof over their head. Why? Because people’s health is significantly affected by their homes.
Your neighborhood shouldn’t be hazardous to your health, and that is why Liberty Hill is doing everything it can to eliminate the hazards of neighborhood oil drilling.
Black, Brown and Native/Indigenous youth whose circumstances have made them vulnerable to coming into contact with the police need our help more than ever, which is why we are doing everything we can to end youth incarceration as we know it.
CHANGING THE RULES No one organization or government agency can make the impact alone to ensure everyone has a fair chance to succeed and thrive. This kind of change is going to take collective action.
CHANGING THE NARRATIVE We ensure grassroots leaders with lived experience are at the table making their voices heard among some of the most powerful foundations, philanthropists and government entities to drive the substantive change needed to improve our communities.
CHANGE, NOT CHARITY: MAKING AN IMPACT IN L.A. We provide expertise on the landscape of social change nonprofits and strategic grantmaking practices to ensure your investment makes the greatest impact possible.

APPLYING AN EQUITY LENS 1. What communities are disproportionately affected due to long term inequities? 2. What communities are historically overlooked or underserved by traditional philanthropy? 3. What vulnerable communities are mobilizing themselves to respond with advocacy, mutual aid, etc.? 4. What inequities will a crisis aggravate long term? 5. What are the gaps or blind spots in my own research and sources?
