SCIENCE FAIR 2020 Last Friday, BIS held its annual Science Fair with a great number of unique projects on display. This event brings together our community to showcase intellectual exploration and diversity of scientific topics. Our students put in a lot of hard work and this really showed. All of our young scientists who have prepared projects, researched topics and presented today, are an incredible example of what education experts call active inquirers. They should feel very proud of themselves for deepening their intellectual and scientific curiosity. Congratulations on their successful projects! The following students received awards: Overall distinction: Madeline Selinger from MYP3
NEW FACES: MS. ALTYNAI Hello BIS Community! My name is Altynai and I currently work as a Support Teacher in co-teaching, languages and Inclusive Education. Most of the time I work with Preschool and Primary students. I joined BIS in January, 2020. It has been just two months of working in this lovely school, but it feels like I have been here much longer because all our staff and students have been most welcoming and friendly to me. Children's Education is what I have always been passionate about. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Pedagogy from the International University of Central Asia. During university years, I experienced working in both kindergartens and primary schools, private and public ones. After graduation, I changed my areas of work a couple of times. I lived for over one year in Kontum, Vietnam teaching English as a second language. It was a great experience - learning a new culture, meeting different people and teaching children of all ages. Before joining BIS, I also worked as a social worker the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families. There I was coordinating Children and Summer Camp Programs for kids from unprivileged families of Kyrgyzstan. I believe that Early Childhood and the first years of school matter the most in a child's development. That's the reason I try never to stop improving my skills in working with kids. BIS is allowing me to develop and giving me a lot of good experiences at the same time. Thank you for having me here! Ms. Altynai, Support Teacher in co-teaching, languages and Inclusive Education
WORLD NATURE DEFENCE World Nature Defense (aka WND) is a student founded organization dedicated to making the environment safe again. The students of P6A have created this group to fight climate change. There are three categories in our organization specialized in their objectives: Restore, Protect, and Fund. They all have a beneficial part in WND. First, Restore is in charge of herbs, and planting certain native species in Kyrgyzstan. Fund is in charge of financial problems and money. Finally, Protect will guard the environment with protests and breakouts from filth, and rising climate. We are pleased to announce that part of our first major action we will be hosting an Eco Sale! In the Eco Sale we are going to sell Reduced, Reduced and Recycled goods. The Eco Sale will be in P6A classroom on March 12-13, from 1:45-2:45. All proceeds raised will go towards the construction of our indoor seedling garden. If you would like to join our cause or have questions about the Eco Sale, you can reach us at wnd.bis.kg@gmail.com! PRESCHOOL 1 This week, Preschool 1 friends spent time learning about a bird’s life. We became aware that there are so many different types of the birds, and many of the them live in their houses called nest. We discussed the importance of safe places for birds to protect themselves from different weather conditions and a place to raise their babies. To build a better understanding of birds and see them in our playground, we made birdhouses out of milk cartons and put some seeds inside them. We hung them in our playground trees and were excited to see birds coming to their houses and nibbling the feeders. We also made beautiful and colorful feathery birds, paper bag nests with eggs and fabric parent birds with their baby birds. Next, we will start to talk about insects and plants. Ms. Begimai, Preschool 1 Form Teacher
PRESCHOOL 2 Preschool 2 group had an interesting week where we were talking about the hobbies through which we can express our feelings and emotions. In the beginning of the week we pretended to be gardeners, decorated flower pots and planted some flower seeds. Many of us love planting and are super interested in the ways people grow plants, plants life cycles and types. The next hobby we tried was oil painting. For this we went on the field trip to the art studio where a professional painter told us about the kinds of paint, brushes, easels and explained how to draw a complicated picture by steps. The painter also told us that the picture she draws always expresses her inside mood - if it is bright and colorful that means the painter was happy and inspired at that moment; if the picture was drawn in dark shades the painter experienced some worries and wanted to show them on the picture. The friends started their pictures from mixing several colors of paint to create the background. The next step were tulip stems and flower heads. Our Preschool 2 friends were engaged in drawing, carefully working with the paint and this resulted in beautiful spring tulips - bright and fresh! For our literacy lesson, we learnt the letter N and made bird nests out of paper and salty dough. We then played a game where we were looking for words that start with the letter N! Ms. Oksana, Preschool 2 Form Teacher
PRESCHOOL 3 What an amazing week for our Preschool 3 friends. We learned about the letter 'j' this week. To help us learn about the letter 'j', we made a jellyfish and a jam sandwich! Our friends also had fun setting up a real tent in our class for our Unit of Inquiry about shelters. We had loads of fun playing in the tent. Next week we will learn about the letter 'z' and look at a real kitchen! Please remember there will be no school on Monday due to International Women's Day. Ms. Carmen, Preschool 3 Form Teacher
