“Part 1 is devoted to the background to the revolt…Part 2 deals with the ‘military phase’ and covers not only British counterinsurgency strategies but also the propaganda offensive against Mau Mau which proved so effective. Mau Mau's own military and political strategy is covered in chapter 6 and demonstrates its complex composition and contradictions. Part 3 deals with the rehabilitation of Mau Mau detainees. As will be seen, this was an extremely important undertaking by the British and may have affected Kenyan society more profoundly than is readily realized or even acknowledged…”
