Please join me for thrilling journeys, magical adventures, and unforgettable evenings of inspiration as Nebraska’s Performing Arts Center brings top artists from all over the world to Lincoln in the spectacular 2023-2024 Lied Center season. Featuring exceptional evenings of music, theater, and dance, this season truly fulfills our promise of ‘something for everyone.’
It all kicks off with The Blues Brothers, featuring Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi! They’re still on a mission from God, getting audiences out of their chairs and dancing with all the hits from the official Blue Brothers canon and other favorite classics. You’ll be talking about it for years to come.
We also get to welcome back some of our most beloved Lied Center artists, including Wynton Marsalis, Joshua Bell, and Emanuel Ax. Wynton Marsalis and the always-exceptional Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra have been part of many historic moments at the Lied, including our 25th & 30th anniversary seasons. Joshua Bell will return to the Lied joined by renowned soprano Larisa Martinez for ‘Voice and the Violin,’ presenting stirring arrangements of romantic arias and modern classics. Eighttime GRAMMY® winner Emanuel Ax opens this year‘s piano series, followed by Behzod Abduraimov and Jon Nakamatsu. This season at the Lied, you’ll truly experience some of the most thrilling and beautiful music ever written.
Speaking of iconic music, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens will present ‘Dancing Beethoven.’
Accompanied by the full Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra, more than 50 dancers will bring Beethoven’s iconic 5th and 7th symphonies to life in a spectacular, once-in-a-lifetime collaboration.
Broadway remains the most popular art form at the Lied Center, and this season’s Glenn Korff Broadway Series is the biggest yet, featuring two full-week runs of beloved shows as part of a historic lineup. The premiere Lincoln engagement of Disney’s Aladdin kicks it all off, followed by the long-awaited return of Les Misérables, the thrillingly reimagined Jesus Christ Superstar, Academy Award® winner Aaron Sorkin’s brilliant new adaptation of To Kill A Mockingbird, and much more!
And that’s not even scratching the surface of everything you’ll experience this season at the Lied! From family shows including Coco in Concert and Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse to comedy with Tom Papa and Brian Regan, Christmas with Mannheim Steamroller to illusionist Rob Lake, the groundbreaking Kinetic Light to inspirational new works, we invite you to join us for an abundant year of entertainment and inspiration for all the members of your family.
I look forward to seeing you many times at the Lied!

“A House Divided” examines the distressing choices facing Abraham Lincoln that threaten to unravel his family and the country during a week in 1863 when Mary Lincoln’s half-sister, Emilie Todd Helm, visits the White House. Helm, a fiercely loyal Confederate, refuses to pledge allegiance to the Union when trying to cross the border to return to Kentucky after her Confederate husband’s death in battle. Unsure of what else to do, Lincoln suggests the soldiers send her to the White House.
Declared “one of the most remarkable shows in musical theater history” by The Washington Post and “an anthem resonating on Broadway and beyond” by NBC Nightly News, DEAR EVAN HANSEN is the first contemporary musical about connection in the digital age.
Meet Evan Hansen, a high school student who always feels like he’s on the outside looking in. After writing a letter to himself that was never meant to be seen, Evan becomes entangled in a lie that was never meant to be told and a life he never dreamt could be his. As a result, Evan finally gets what so many of us are searching for—the chance to finally fit in.
Packed with some of the most popular musical theatre songs from the last decade including “You Will Be Found,” “Waving Through A Window” and “For Forever,” DEAR EVAN HANSEN features an uplifting score by the Tony ® , Grammy ® , and Oscar ® winning team behind The Greatest Showman, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and a book by Tony Award winner Steven Levenson.
GREAT SCOTT! BACK TO THE FUTURE, THE BELOVED, CINEMATIC CLASSIC IS NOW A BROADWAY MUSICAL WITH ITS DESTINATION SET FOR THE LIED IN 2024.
Winner of the 2022 Olivier Award for Best New Musical, four WhatsOnStage Awards, including Best New Musical, and the Broadway World Award for Best New Musical, Back to the Future: The Musical is adapted for the stage by the iconic film’s creators Bob Gale (Back to the Future trilogy) and Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump) and directed by the Tony Award®-winner John Rando with original music by multi-Grammy® winners Alan Silvestri (Avengers: Endgame) and Glen Ballard (Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror”), alongside hit songs from the movie including “The Power of Love,” “Johnny B. Goode,” “Earth Angel,” and “Back in Time.”
When Marty McFly finds himself transported back to 1955 in a time machine built by the eccentric scientist Doc Brown, he accidentally changes the course of history. Now he’s in a race against time to fix the present, escape the past, and send himself... back to the future. When Back to the Future hits 88mph, it’ll change musical theatre history forever.
At a moment when musical streams are crossing with unprecedented frequency, it’s crucial to remember that throughout its history, New Orleans has been the point at which sounds and cultures from around the world converge, mingle, and resurface, transformed by the Crescent City’s inimitable spirit and joie de vivre. Nowhere is that idea more vividly embodied than in the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, which has held the torch of New Orleans music aloft for more than 60 years, all the while carrying it enthusiastically forward as a reminder that the history they were founded to preserve is a vibrantly living history.
PHJB marches that tradition forward once again on So It Is. The album redefines what New Orleans music means today by tapping into a sonic continuum that stretches back to the city’s Afro-Cuban roots, through its common ancestry with the Afrobeat of Fela Kuti and the Fire Music of Pharoah Sanders and John Coltrane, and forward to cutting-edge artists with whom the PHJB have shared festival stages from Coachella to Newport, including legends like Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello and the Grateful Dead and modern giants like Beck, The Foo Fighters, My Morning Jacket, and the Black Keys.
