The Toyota 86 WAS ENGINEERED TO EXHILARATE AND EXCITE EVERY SENSE, IN EVERY WAY THAT A REAL DRIVER REALLY DESIRES. The drive is powerful, confident and so dynamically agile that its response is almost instantaneous with even the smallest throttle or steering inputs. The power to perform begins with the engine of the Toyota 86 that was specifically designed to deliver outstanding driving enjoyment. The boxer engine is so called because it behaves like a boxer â&#x20AC;&#x201C; the pistons move in and out simultaneously rather than alternatively. The ideal length and reduced weight of the pistons also help provide top engine speed and responsiveness. The horizontal configuration of the boxer engine also allows for an extremely low centre of gravity of just 459 mm, which enables exceptional handling and low inertial properties that make quick turns effortless. The lower the centre of gravity, the higher the speed of cornering and the better the control for the driver. A D4-S injection system that directly injects highly-pressurised fuel into the cylinder is the secret weapon in creating a compact engine that is still powerful and can provide ample torque even at low revolutions. It pushes out power of 147 kW @ 7000 r/min and delivers torque of 205 Nm @ 6400-6600 r/min. The Toyota 86 also lives up to its name with a perfect 86 mm bore and 86 mm stroke that provides excellent fuel efficiency, higher revs and a better-working engine.

BOXER ENGINE + D-4S TECHNOLOGY

Rear wheel drive is another signature feature of the Toyota 86. Coupled with the horizontally-opposed boxer engine, this gives it an exciting performance, superb handling, road holding and quick braking. The weight of the vehicle is better balanced, which improves handling, acceleration and braking. Since the weight of the vehicle is concentrated at the rear, the light front end makes the vehicle seem more nimble and controllable. All models come equipped with a Limited Slip Differential (LSD), which maximises grip by distributing different amounts of power to the wheels. This enables superb grip when accelerating around corners. A highly rigid yet lightweight MacPherson strut front suspension also increases handling stability. A double wishbone rear suspension increases stability, grip and gives the driver the feeling of oneness with the vehicle. The rigid chassis of the Toyota 86 combined with a low centre of gravity brings true joy to the driver with excellent stability, a highly-dynamic response due to its neutral steering set-up, stable cornering, minimal body roll and a more direct driving feeling. While the Toyota 86 provides sensational driving it does not do so at the expense of the environment. The ultra-aerodynamic shape of the Toyota 86 not only enhances its performance and speed but also its fuel efficiency. It is also extremely lightweight with an optimal power-to-weight ratio which further enhances both performance and fuel efficiency.

This vehicle is an instant icon and future classic. Like everything else in the meticulous design of the Toyota 86, its style is there to serve. The beauty of it is functional. It is beauty with a purpose with the marriage of aesthetics and mechanics. Its design and shape play a pivotal role in pushing its aerodynamics to the extreme with the aim of realising the highest engine speeds possible. Its low, highly aerodynamic body is stretched tightly across its cutting-edge engineering technologies. The front view of the Toyota 86 with its low and flat hood not only puts a bold emphasis on the lower grille but also enhances performance. The side profile is pure motoring enthusiast styling and its low-set front bumper and bottom edge contribute to handling stability. The “Pagoda-style” roof that gets wider towards the back of the vehicle enhances aerodynamics and handling. The 16" alloy wheels with a classic spoke design on the standard model and 17" alloy wheels with twin spokes on the high models give a spin to the details. All three of the Toyota 86 models come with front and rear fog lamps. The 2.0 high models come with a stylish rear spoiler and a daytime running light system.

EVERY DETAIL HAS BEEN METICULOUSLY CRAFTED TO REMAIN TRUE TO THE PURITY OF THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE.

The ready-for-action feeling starts with the 3-spoke 365 mm steering wheel – the smallest diameter in the Toyota line-up – for exceptional grip and turning performance. The steering wheel of the automatic also comes equipped with a paddle shift which gives the driver the option of manually changing gears. A Multi-Information Display (MID), puts all the information the driver needs at eye level to keep attention focused on the road. The driver and front passenger bucket seats were specifically designed to provide optimum back support at speed and a low hip point of only 400 mm literally means getting as close to the road as possible to enjoy a greater sense of speed. Entertainment and comfort do not take a back seat in the Toyota 86. For longer drives, the high models have cruise control. Geared to play what you want, all models feature a six-speaker audio system with a radio/CD, USB and auxiliary input. The standard model has an air conditioner, while the high models have a dual zone air conditioning system. Display audio system is available on the 2.0 high models.

And while the Toyota 86 maximises safety through features such as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), these do not interfere with the purity of the driving experience. Controlling speed is just as important as delivering it so the Toyota 86 is equipped with 15" ventilated front brake discs (16" ventilated on the high models) and 15" rear brake discs to optimise control and grip in tight turns (the high models have 15" ventilated rear brake discs). No matter how fiercely you corner, the Toyota 86 helps you stay in control. The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) also adds another essential dimension of control. ABS regulates the hydraulic pressure of the brakes to prevent the wheels from locking up. This helps keep the vehicle stable during sudden braking or when braking on slippery roads. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system provides stability, while cornering and kicks into action if the vehicle begins to skid due to a sudden change in steering or in the road surface. VSC returns the vehicle to the zone of control by reducing excessive side slipping of the tyres.
