Understand the Background of Grief Counseling Now Grief comes in many different forms and can strike at any time. It is difficult to deal with grief and there are many reasons one is stricken with grief including      

Loss of a loved one such as family, friend or pet Loss of someone famous Accidental death or tragedy reported by the media Change in or loss of job Failed relationship(s) Relocation

Grief is inevitable. Everyone should make themselves aware of the Grief Counseling process and ways to cope with it. There are five stages of grief. These stages occur at different times for every person, but they do occur. The five stages of the grieving process are:

    

Denial - denying that the grief-inducing event has occurred, a defense from the reality of the situation. Anger - changing the thought process from denial to being angry at the situation, this includes emotions such as frustration and rage. Bargaining - offering something in exchange for the past reality that was once lived before the traumatic event took place. Depression - feeling hopeless with no desire for living, possibly entertaining suicidal thoughts. Acceptance - realizing that the situation has occurred and accepting it to be reality.

While none of these steps is easy, they are necessary. The good news is that grief is not a forever state! Family Therapy Mississauga can be good if the person experiencing it makes it that way. Grief is not a process that has to be endured alone either. There are helps along the way. Grief counseling is an excellent way to help push along the natural process of grief. A grieving person will still go through all the grief stages, but it is possible that those stages will come and go quicker than if attempting to deal with them alone. Individual counseling and group counseling are the two most common styles of counseling. It is recommended to first seek individual counseling, deal with personal issues associated with grief and then possibly move on to group counseling. Group counseling is a wonderful healing resource. In group counseling, grievers are able to express their thoughts, feelings and coping mechanisms with other grievers and offer support that can only be found in a group of people who have experienced similar situations.
