Dusty Blue Romance

Spring Private Residence La Porte, IN THEME: SEASON: VENUE:

Inspired by a palette from the D.I.Y. floral company she used, Allison settled on the colors for their wedding. “I chose their ‘Dusty Blush and Blue’ Collection, which featured quicksand roses and blue sprigs of thistle,” Allison shares. From there, she based all her design choices on the flowers and their colors. When it came time to start searching for vendors, Allison actually had a leg up. Her cousin had gotten married in the area just a year before Allison and Seth were engaged. After getting her cousin’s research, Allison added to it and started contacting vendors. Her main goal was finding vendors who shared her vision and connected with her personality. Allison and Seth were able to find the dream team of vendors to help their wedding come to life, including Chrystin Melanie Photography and AAYS Event Rentals!

“I

always thought people were corny when they said their wedding was the best day of their life. Now, I entirely feel the same way. Everything will be perfect as long as you are marrying the love of your life.”

WHAT WE love

Allison and Seth had numerous personal touches to their big day including cross-stitched table numbers and custom cups, which featured their dog Gnocchi. However, the most personal touch was the venue itself. Allison gushes, “We were married at my grandparents’ home. This was a truly unique and meaningful venue.”

Whispers of Folklore

A POETIC TAYLOR SWIFT-INSPIRED STYLE SHOOT

We're thrilled to announce the winners of WeddingDay's sixth annual Style Shoot Design Contest, sponsored by AAYS Event Rentals! This year, participants were invited to design shoots that incorporated the 2024 Pantone Color of the Year, Peach Fuzz, into one of four unique themes: Quiet Luxury, Feminine Touch, Peach Overload and Taylor Swift Albums. As always, our team was thrilled to see the variety of submissions we received, and selecting a winner was no easy feat. Keep reading to see this year's champion and the numerous unique details that made it stand out from the rest, along with the stunning runnerup and the talent of our three favorite finalists!

SPONSORED BY:

Christina Miller of Signature Weddings & Events was immediately inspired when she saw that Taylor Swift albums was a category for this year’s contest. “ I KNEW I had to plan something and that it was going to be inspired by her album, Folklore,” she shares. Christina envisioned a space where guests would feel like they were stepping into the world Taylor Swift masterfully paints through her lyrics. Each scene was carefully crafted to draw inspiration from specific songs on the album, with elements like shimmering mirrorballs, a thread of gold symbolizing the couple’s connection and nods to the themes of "champagne problems" and "mad woman."

As a devoted Swiftie, Christina reveals that Folklore is her favorite album, describing it as raw and introspective, yet filled with vivid portrayals of love, loss and “almosts.” "There was so much inspiration to draw from and the vendors were fully on board to make sure that no detail was left 'un-Taylored,'" she explains. Christina hopes that whether couples seeing this shoot are Swifties or not, they’ll be captivated by the beautiful, messy love story that truly brings Folklore to life in wedding form!

This shoot took place at Hidden Springs State Park in Strausburg, Illinois, along a picturesque pine treelined trail. “We felt that this location really played off of Taylor’s album artwork from Folklore and captured all of the vibes we were going for,” Christina explains.

The model donned two distinct looks for this Taylor-themed shoot. The first gown featured delicate appliqué flowers and a flowy skirt with a structured bodice. Paired with a multi-layered, ruffle-edged veil added some fun texture and depth to the shots! The second dress was more fitted with a dramatic train that created breathtaking movement in the photos, especially as the model ran through the forest, embracing Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour choreography. "I knew I wanted to incorporate a cape as one of the accessories so this fitted style worked perfectly for that," Christina shares. The model's hair and makeup was inspired from the Folklore album art and Taylor's looks from the Folklore set on the Eras Tour. Her loose, messy curls naturally fell throughout the shoot and were complemented with a clean, contoured look. And no Taylor Swift shoot would be complete without a classic red Taylor-inspired lip!

Christina incorporated touches of peach into the tablescape design and florals. "I love the hint of color it gave to our earthy palette without overpowering the overall aesthetic," she gushes. The beautiful dark wood tables and chairs graciously provided by Tuscan Hills Winery were perfect for this moody vibe, while the florals were predominantly white and cream, accented with pops of peach and dusty pink to add in a feminine touch. A hot trend Christina embraced was layering complementary and contrasting textures to add complexity and depth to the design. We also love the touch of moss and greenery to further accentuate the woodsy aesthetic! “All of the other décor items, place settings and linens came from Signature Weddings & Events,” Christina explains.

For the stationery suite, Christina envisioned a neutral, textured set, and this creation was so stunning and detailed that she was moved to tears! The hand deckled edges, custom monogram, wax seal and moody pine tree envelope liner all added visual interest, while the signage was its own work of art! "For the seating chart, we used a framed artpiece and attached the cards with wax seals. The seating chart is full of little Easter eggs, in true Taylor fashion," Christina gushes. But our absolute favorite touch is the adorable signature cocktail sign featuring Taylor’s three cats!

What's better than one cake? Two! "Our traditional cutting cake was a two-tier cake with smooth white buttercream and a satin bow tied around the center," Christina says. This clean look was a perfect contrast against the wild, woodsy backdrop. The second confection was a smash cake, inspired by the "after the party" photo trend. It was a heart-shaped red velvet cake with white buttercream and vintage piping, topped with Christina’s favorite lyric from Folklore, "to live for the hope of it all." "The pictures of our model standing on top of our tablescape and stepping on this cake are probably some of my favorites from the whole gallery!" Christina raves.

Love You to Peaches

A MODERN, MAXIMALIST STYLE SHOOT IN SOUTH BEND

Inspired by our maximalist theme, Peach Overload, Cynthia Basker of Celebrated Events and her runner-up Style Shoot Design Contest team dreamed up a fresh, fun and modern concept. "We envisioned a couple marrying with only their nearest and dearest in front of a fountain in the park where they had met, followed by a more formal reception," Cynthia shares. The entire shoot exudes a romantic yet contemporary vibe, incorporating maximalism not only in volume, but in repetition and textures such as bows, velvet/satin ribbons and 3-D embellishments. "It was all about creating an overload of beauty without overwhelming the eye," she explains.

Thanks to the theme, the Pantone Color of the Year, Peach Fuzz, took center stage in nearly every element of the shoot! From the escort card display to the floral arrangements, cake and even the bride's makeup, the color was strategically incorporated to emphasize the maximalist approach. Two bridal gowns were chosen to embody both the playful and formal sides of the shoot. We are in love with the ceremony gown―a peach tulle beauty with off-the-shoulder straps and layers of ruching. This look reflected the fun and lighthearted feel of the day while the reception gown featured a subtle peach lining and beribboned detachable sleeves, elevating the overall aesthetic.

Florals played a key role in the design, with a mix of roses, ranunculus and carnations in a range of peach tones. The ceremony bouquet was soft and muted, complementing the bride's gown, while the reception bouquet was bolder and brighter, providing a striking contrast against the more formal reception gown. Cynthia and her team also took inspiration from the venue, selecting The LaSalle Hotel for its classic black and white design elements, which aligned perfectly with the shoot's color palette!

To bring the vision to life, unique décor elements were carefully chosen, such as the mobile bubbly bar, "Classy Coupe," a restored vintage Italian mini-truck. "All white with black trim, it fit perfectly with the aesthetic of our shoot, even more so when we adorned it with an over abundance of peach toned floral and black glassware," Cynthia describes. Décor details like the black shelving unit, which held the escort cards, Italian peach cookies and cake, echoed the oval-shaped invitations and enhanced the maximalist theme. Overall, this shoot was about indulging in beauty and creating moments that felt abundant and joyful!

FINALIST

Theme: Quiet Luxury

Inspired by our theme of Quiet Luxury and a peach orchard, Bree Neely of Neely Photography brought together elements of art history, southern charm and modern trends. She shares, "I wanted everything to exude Peach Fuzz, from the location, the colors chosen, the golden hour, the peaches on the table, to even the color grading." Surrounded by lush rows of trees and the soft golden hour light, Bree aimed to show couples that elegance doesn’t require an overseas destination—sometimes the most magical moments are found just outside your door, in a backyard or a beautiful orchard!

The palette of Peach Fuzz was brought to life not just in the color scheme but through the mood. " I wanted to channel a little bit of my art history background to enhance this theme, by incorporating Roman columns and Greek statues. I also wanted to play into the current trends seen widely right now, by playing peaches on the tables, high angles, long rows of trees, unique florals, mismatched dresses and of course the parasols," Bree gushes.

Despite an unexpected challenge when the peaches ripened ahead of schedule, Bree and her team managed to reschedule the shoot in just a couple of weeks to ensure they could capture the orchard in full bloom! This quick turnaround didn't hinder the creativity of the shoot, and the collaboration between local vendors was key to its success.

We love how the brocade wedding gown blended classic and trendy elements, while the florals—dahlias, lilies, cosmos and eucalyptus—added warm peach tones throughout the shoot. The cake was a creative standout, featuring a heart-shaped Lambeth design topped with peaches. Its dual-sided appearance offered a different view depending on the angle! Nearly all the décor was thrifted or sourced from local vendors, adding to the shoot's timeless, romantic feel. And Bree's photography captured the essence of quiet luxury, showcasing that with a little creativity and a nod to nature, any local space can become the perfect setting for a sophisticated and intimate wedding celebration!

Theme: Quiet Luxury

FINALIST

Trysh Jaeger Photography and her team brought a quirky twist to our theme Quiet Luxury, with this "Fairytale in the Forest" shoot, based on the beloved story of Shrek and Fiona. Trysh's vision for the shoot was to capture the essence of a romantic fairytale, highlighting the understated luxury in the details. From the "swamp" setting to the gingerbread cookies inspired by the movie’s character Gingy, every element of the shoot was carefully crafted to bring this unique fairytale to life. Her photos captured the charm of the forest location and the playful, yet elegant, theme, including a real donkey to add to the authenticity of the Shrek-inspired atmosphere! "We wanted to emphasize that your wedding can have a theme (even if it’s cheesy) and turn it into a romantic, fairytale," Trysh shares. With a color palette inspired by shades of green, gray (for Donkey), and soft peach tones, the shoot was a perfect balance of playful nods to the movie and the timeless beauty of a forest setting.

Despite a rainstorm that nearly left parts of the venue flooded, there were plenty of beautiful spots on the property of Friendship Gardens to capture the forest vibe. A burn-away cake featuring Shrek and Fiona added an artistic and playful touch, while gingerbread cookies paid homage to the film’s iconic character, Gingy.

The floral arrangements by Sugarfield Flowers complemented the romantic, forest setting with white, peach and green hues. And we love how the bride’s gown, adorned with peach flowers, fit seamlessly into the fairytale theme! The shoot also featured custom stationery from Your Little Details, with invitations that began with "Once Upon a Time" and character name cards inspired by the movie. Trysh's photos encapsulated the enchanting, forest-inspired fairytale wedding, showing that with a bit of creativity and a touch of humor, any theme can be transformed into a breathtakingly beautiful celebration!

Theme: Quiet Luxury

Gina Bombin-Wilk of Sugar on the Rim Events brought our theme of Quiet Luxury to life in a shoot that embodied understated elegance. Her vision was to balance sophisticated simplicity with delicate details, creating a timeless, yet modern feel. The theme was thoughtfully executed through every element, from the peach-toned florals and cotton candy to the chic venue and luxurious décor! Gina incorporated Peach Fuzz into various elements, from the floral arrangements and makeup to the groom’s pocket square. The playful touch of champagne glitter bombs added a fun, interactive element for guests, while staying true to the elegant theme. This blend of fun and sophistication was at the heart of the shoot, showing how a whimsical theme can be elevated with quiet luxury!

FINALIST

The Grand in Crown Point, Indiana was the perfect venue for the shoot, with its spacious, light-filled rooms and clean, neutral palette that allowed the styling elements to shine. The floor-toceiling windows and natural-colored walls of the venue provided a stunning backdrop, perfectly complementing the simple, yet elegant décor. Gina enhanced the romantic atmosphere with a variety of candles in different heights and styles, along with black sequin tablecloths that caught the glow of candlelight, creating a soft, intimate ambiance.

The elegant details were seen in every aspect of the shoot, from the bride's chic gown to the sophisticated desserts. The cake, adorned with delicate flowers, had an effortless elegance that matched the overall aesthetic. Gina also ensured that the stationery followed the Quiet Luxury theme, with classic black and white designs accented by Peach Fuzz tones. By combining luxurious textures, rich florals and simple, refined touches, this shoot captured the essence of modern romance and timeless elegance!

INISFREE ESTATE

Couples often start their wedding planning process by finding the right venue for their big day. But, it can be difficult to check off all the items on your wishlist. Perhaps you want an all-inclusive venue to alleviate some of the stress of wedding planning. Maybe you’re looking for a beautiful getaway for you and your guests to relax and celebrate your love. Either way, you likely want to feel supported by your team of vendors to make your dream wedding come to life!

Inisfree Estate, a historically beautiful venue nestled in Pullman, Michigan, is the ideal location for couples who want a special and exclusive wedding experience. From the onsite bed and breakfast to the personable staff and stunningly serene scenery, Inisfree Estate has so much to offer. Read on to hear from owner Peggy Van Wagoner and to truly understand what makes this Midwest gem so unique!

Chrystin Melanie Photography

Tell us a little bit about the history of Inisfree Estate.

"Inisfree Estate's story begins in 1893 as a working farm owned by a Civil War officer who designed and built the historic barn and Italianate farmhouse. The magnificent barn's wooden beams were milled and hewn on-site, a testament to the craftsmanship of the era. In September 2016, we purchased ‘Inisfree’ without fully realizing what lay ahead. The barn needed repair, and the three-bedroom farmhouse required attention. As we sat on the verandah, taking in our purchase, we were struck by Inisfree's magic and beauty. We knew then that we were custodians of something truly special, tasked with preserving its timeless charm. After two years of township meetings for zoning and licensing, followed by extensive renovations, Inisfree Estate opened its doors in July 2019 as the first venue in Casco Township. Our authentic Inisfree barn had been transformed into a showplace. Thirty vintage chandeliers now illuminate the 30-foot high ceiling, and an 18-foot antique bar, rescued from a Chicago speakeasy, found its new home where guests love to mingle. We added all the modern amenities while preserving the barn's historic character. Today, our venue offers the Historic Barn, Pond View Pavilion and a recently completed 10,000+-square-foot addition to the Bed & Breakfast, creating a magical and private oasis. Situated on 30 private acres in Southwest Michigan's picturesque lakeshore area, the Bed & Breakfast features ten luxury en-suite rooms, a pool, spa, hot tub, fire pit, multiple outdoor gardens, a pond and many other amenities. These features highlight the venue's flexibility for both large and intimate occasions, making Inisfree Estate a truly unique destination."

Why should a couple get married here? What attracts them to Inisfree Estate?

"At Inisfree Estate, we believe in being there for you every step of the way. We understand that this is your day, and we work tirelessly to make it magical. Our goal is for everyone to love and enjoy the Inisfree experience. From the moment your tour begins, our focus is on you and your vision. Throughout your journey with us, we strive to provide the best experience possible, ensuring your time here is truly something you'll cherish forever.

Inisfree Estate offers a luxury destination wedding experience without the need for long-distance travel. Our prime location between Chicago and Detroit makes us the perfect choice for couples with friends and family coming from both directions. Our 30-acre private estate provides an enchanting and secluded setting ideal for couples seeking a unique and intimate atmosphere. Here, you'll find ample space both indoors and outdoors for your guests to mingle, alongside cozy nooks for moments of quiet connection.

Couples who choose Inisfree Estate are often looking for something extraordinary—a unique

experience, a hidden gem, a property that 'speaks to them.' They want a destination where their guests can feel at home, yet still be swept away by the magic of the surroundings. That's exactly what we offer—a perfect blend of comfort, luxury and enchantment that makes your wedding truly unforgettable. From the moment they arrive, everyone feels welcome and part of something special."

What nearby activities make hosting a wedding at Inisfree Estate a memorable stay?

"The Southwest Michigan lakeshore area surrounding Inisfree Estate is full of delightful surprises. We're nestled among numerous vineyards and wineries, most within just 5 miles of the estate. Guests can enjoy private winery tours by appointment, which often include walks through picturesque vineyards and conclude with extensive tastings. For those preferring a more casual experience, there are plenty of walkin wineries and breweries offering their specialty beers, wines and ciders. We can even arrange private wine shuttles for group tours that begin and end right here at Inisfree.

Just 10-15 minutes from the estate, you'll find the charming coastal villages of Saugatuck/Douglas and South Haven. These picturesque towns offer beautiful Lake Michigan beaches, boutique shopping, lively bars, excellent restaurants and various water activities like boating and kayaking. Our area is also a haven for art enthusiasts. From private studios to wonderful art galleries and wine bistros, the region showcases some of the best artistic talent. It's truly a gem, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, culinary delights and cultural experiences that make a stay at Inisfree Estate even more memorable."

Do you work with preferred vendors or offer your own exclusive services?

"At Inisfree Estate, we're committed to ensuring every aspect of your wedding meets the highest standards. To that end, we offer a carefully curated list of preferred vendors who have been thoroughly vetted for their quality of work, reliability and professionalism. Our preferred vendor list covers a wide range of services, including catering, photography, videography, floristry, entertainment and more. These partners have consistently delivered exceptional results and customer service to our clients.

For catering, we require the use of one of our preferred caterers. This ensures that the food at your reception, a crucial element of any wedding, meets our high standards for quality and safety. Our selected caterers offer a variety of options to suit different dietary needs, budgets and menu preferences. While we manage all beverage services in-house with our licensed bartenders, all other vendor choices are optional. You're welcome to use our preferred vendors or bring in your own for most services.

Our goal is to make your planning process as smooth as possible while ensuring the quality and consistency of services provided on your special day. We're always happy to discuss our vendor recommendations and help you make choices that align with your vision for your wedding."

WD: WD:

Tell us about your favorite part of your job. What keeps it fun for you?

"The best part of our job is the people we meet and the relationships we build. It's a privilege to be part of someone's most important day and welcome them into our 'Inisfree family.' What keeps it rewarding is seeing the lasting impact we have. Many couples return to celebrate anniversaries at our B&B or stop by to show their children where they were married. We've even received photos of firstborns from couples who celebrated their union here! These ongoing connections show us that Inisfree has become more than just a venue – it's a cherished part of our couples' life journeys. Creating this sense of belonging and witnessing the joy it brings long after the wedding day is truly fulfilling. It reminds us that we're not just hosting events, but helping to create lasting memories and traditions for families."

What are the best tips you have for couples preparing for their big day?

"Our best tip for couples preparing for their big day is simple: enjoy this time. It's easy to get caught up in the details and stress of planning, but remember why you're doing this in the first place—your love for each other.

Here are a few pieces of wisdom we've gathered over the years: 1) Utilize your wedding coordinator. We include a professional day-of coordinator in all our packages because we believe their expertise is invaluable. They'll guide you through the process, ensuring all bases are covered and allowing you to focus on the joy of your celebration. 2) Take breaks from planning. Schedule date nights or miniretreats where wedding talk is off-limits. Use this time to reconnect and remind yourselves of why you fell in love. 3) Prioritize what's truly important to you. Not every detail will go perfectly, but if you focus on what matters most, you'll have a beautiful, meaningful day. 4) Involve your partner. Planning should be a team effort. It's a great opportunity to practice communication and compromise – skills that will serve you well in marriage. 5) Remember to be present on the day. It goes by quickly, so take moments to pause, breathe and soak it all in.

Above all, when times get stressful, take a step back and remember the love that brought you this far. Your wedding is the beginning of a beautiful journey together and the planning should be part of the joy, not a source of tension.

We're here to support you every step of the way, ensuring that your day at Inisfree is everything you've dreamed of and more."

The Real Wedding of

ALLISON & STORM ZEBELL

Allison met Storm on her first construction job out of college. Eventually, their friendship blossomed into something more, and Storm popped the question at the same restaurant where they shared their first date! Inspired by Disney princess movies, Allison had a very specific vision for her wedding day. She shares, " Those magical visuals filled my imagination with ideas of elegance and beauty, and I always envisioned my own fairytale moment surrounded by nature." Allison fell in love with Williams Orchard for its stunning natural landscapes, choosing the forest as the perfect setting for her fairytale wedding. The reception space, a beautifully modernized barn with elegant touches, perfectly matched her vision of a sophisticated orchard and winery vibe, while the bridal suite and sliding glass windows added to the venue's magical, dreamlike atmosphere. The couple chose a simple yet meaningful color palette of blush pink and navy blue, reflecting their shared love for these hues. Gold and pearls were added as elegant accents, with a personal touch from Storm gifting Allison her first set of pearls, tying everything together beautifully.

WHAT WE love

Allison’s wedding day was filled with magical touches, including horse-drawn carriages for guests and a special bridal carriage for her grand entrance, adding to the fairytale-like atmosphere. Elegant harp music, featuring modern renditions of "Bridgerton" and "Top Gun: Maverick," further enhanced the romantic ambiance!

Autumn in Blue

WEDDINGDAY’S EXCLUSIVE NORTHERN INDIANA COVER SHOOT

The Vision

For our cover shoot, the talented team at Burns Special Events envisioned a stunning blend of moody, atmospheric beauty that reflected the rich, autumn colors of Northern Indiana. The shoot’s design incorporated layered textures, from plush velvet linens to modern copper accents, to capture the essence of a warm, intimate celebration set against the backdrop of fall’s rich foliage. With carefully chosen florals, soft candlelight, and a touch of winter elegance, the goal was to craft a mood that was both romantic and timeless—perfectly embodying the magic of Northern Indiana's fall and winter landscapes.

The Venue

The Gillespie was the perfect venue to bring Burns' elegant fall vision to life. With its versatile layout, The Gillespie offers the unique ability to host the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception all in one stunning location, making it ideal for a seamless event experience. The venue's neutral tones and elegant design created a beautiful backdrop that allowed the rich fall colors to truly pop, enhancing the seasonal palette and bringing the overall vision to life. We love how its elegant yet approachable setting makes it the ideal venue to host a wedding or celebration of any style! And the outdoor ceremony area and pre-reception space were perfect for Meg Rodgers, Harpist to serenade our happy couple!

The Florals

For the florals, Burns Special Events opted for a beautiful mix of earthy brown and burgundy tones, paired with brighter peach and blush blooms to add a touch of warmth and contrast to the shoot. The rich hues were balanced by the soft, romantic presence of white dahlias, which are especially popular during the fall season. This combination of deep, autumnal colors with the fresh, delicate tones created a stunning, seasonal arrangement that perfectly complemented the moody yet inviting vibe of our shoot!

The Decor

The team at Burns blended playful and sophisticated elements to create a warm, inviting atmosphere. Navy velvet furniture and luxurious velvet linens brought in rich, cozy textures, while the delicate scalloped plates added the perfect feminine detail. The table lamps, which have been trending recently, were incorporated to bring a cozy, intimate vibe, elevating the overall tablescape. To enhance the moodier fall aesthetic, copper accents and navy tones were thoughtfully woven throughout the design, tying in beautifully with the seasonal palette and popular blue patterns of the year. The result was a refined yet approachable look, perfectly suited for a fall celebration. One of our favorite details were the customizable photo box which added a fun touch and the custom, oversized seating chart!

KARA HANES

The Look s

There couldn’t have been a more perfect dress for this cover shoot! This beautiful gown from JJ's House was elegant and classic, making it the best of both worlds. The all-over lace pattern and long sleeves gave it a timeless feel, while the cathedral veil brought in the drama! As for hair and makeup, Burns gave creative freedom to the talented team at The Mane Bridal. To match the vibe of the shoot, our model's hair was styled in an elegant, yet relaxed updo with natural makeup to accentuate her beauty. Our groom looked dapper in his navy blue tuxedo from SuitShop, complementing the color palette perfectly!

The Cake & Catering

The cake from Sweet-Em's Cake Shoppe was a beautiful three tiered white creation with an elegant design and delicate gold accents adorning the top two levels. We love the abundance of florals and candles surrounding the cake table, and the use of copper and gold elements as well as the navy linen backdrop pulled in the color palette perfectly. Another unique addition to our shoot was the catering provided by the talented chefs at The Gillespie. Some of our favorites included the chicken and waffle skewers and mini tacos!

THE EASIEST GUIDE TO

AFTER THE WEDDING changing your last name

Y our newlywed bliss can quickly come to an end when it comes time to endure the dreaded task of changing your last name. The legal process can often take the romance out of taking your significant other’s last name. If you get yourself organized with the proper documents, the process can be less strenuous, allowing you to continue to revel in your newlywed happiness.

1.

GET THE ORIGINAL MARRIAGE LICENSE FROM THE CLERK’S OFFICE

The original license should come from the clerk’s office where your license was filed. One should automatically be sent to you a couple weeks after the wedding. The original document should have a raised seal and your new last name. Also, it’s a good idea to request copies.

2. REQUEST A NEW SOCIAL SECURITY CARD

If you visit the Social Security Administration’s website, you can find an application for a change of name here. This is a free service. Print the application, fill it out, and include any required documents. You can either take your application to a nearby Social Security office or mail it in. You should receive your new card with your new last name in approximately 10 days.

3.

APPLY FOR A NEW LICENSE AT THE BMV

Getting a new license from the local Bureau of Motor Vehicles office requires a few documents, namely your old license, the original marriage license and your new Social Security card. Remember to change your address if you have moved after the wedding.

4.

CHANGE YOUR LAST NAME WITH YOUR HR DEPARTMENT

When your new Social Security card comes in the mail, meet with your HR manager at work to switch your name over. This includes payroll, 401k, your insurance benefits, stocks etc.

5.

UPDATE YOUR BANK ACCOUNT INFORMATION

The easiest way to do this is to visit your local branch in person. Take your new license, your marriage license and your new Social Security card, and ask for your name to be changed on your account. Request new checks, debit cards and credit cards with your new name.

6.

UPDATE YOUR LAST NAME ON OTHER MISCELLANEOUS ACCOUNTS

As time goes on, you will remember more accounts that your last name must be changed on. Remember to keep all of the necessary documents within reach to easily change your name.
