Commander's Letter

Excitement is in the air as fall brings cooler weather, approaching holidays, and many activities around Maxwell AFB and Gunter Annex. The Force Support Squadron has planned something for everyone to enjoy as we bring 2022 to a close. If you're still working on your 2022 New Year's resolutions, or want to start something new, visit the Maxwell or Gunter Fitness Center and sign up for the Miles To Mascots program where you can win prizes for walking, biking, or running the number of miles to reach every SEC school. It's a great incentive to get fit and focus on your health during the holiday season. You have until January 9, 2023, to complete the tour of the SEC. Don't miss Zombie Zumba on October 27 at Maxwell Fitness Center, too, for a fun afternoon of exercise and spooky fun.

Maxwell Club is offering a great option for Thanksgiving dinner take-out in November so you can enjoy the day with family and friends while enjoying a delicious meal prepared by Chef Jarvi. See the menu and ordering information on page 11. If you want to win a turkey to cook for your Thanksgiving dinner, try to bowl a "turkey" at Gunter Lanes from November 1st through 22nd. A "turkey" in bowling is 3 strikes in a row. If you bowl a perfect game you'll win the Maxwell Club Thanksgiving dinner for four to go.

Christmas Holiday Fest and Tree Lighting will be on Friday, December 2 at 4 p.m. at Freedom Park. Kids and adults can Bowl With The Grinch on December 3. The School Age Centers at Maxwell and Gunter are offering day camps during Thanksgiving week and Christmas week. The deadline to register is October 31, and space is limited so sign up early at www.militarychildcare.com.

For the squadron commanders and unit coordinators, the last day to apply for UNITE funds for squadron morale events is December 1, and activities must be executed by December 15. These funds are available for units to cover expenses for team-building activities on-base or off-base. A list of opportunities is featured on page 16 of this magazine and includes group time on Range 42, bowling fun at Gunter Lanes, breakfast at Rickenbacker's, and more. Reach out to the Community Cohesion Coordinator, Jessica Hardnett, at 303-2026 to request funds for your team's adventure.
