Life Care Active is growing If you visit our Payneham site, you will have noticed that we have acquired the open space across the corridor from reception. This has now been fitted out into a larger fully equipped gym and a dedicated wellness studio. In the wellness studio is a suite of Pilates equipment that will transform the depth and breadth of Pilates services we can offer, as well as providing more space for dance classes, Tai Chi and Chi Ball. So if the stresses of life have been weighing heavily on your body or spirit, you should check out the new studio timetables and join in.

Life Care Active is spreading Did you know we now offer a range of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Fitness services at our sites in Everard Park, Old Reynella and Aldinga Beach.

Our aim is to help you make the most of every day, gaining strength, fitness and mobility to truly be ‘active’ every day.

These include Strength for Life classes, Parkinson’s exercise and support groups. If you have any queries about our satellite services, please ring reception at our Payneham Site on 8168 7600.

Did you know? The good fats in fish oil have been shown to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer by a recent large analysis of over 26 trials. So follow the advice to eat two portions of seafood a week and raise your chances of staying healthy.

Staff Profiles Shannon Peake Physiotherapist I have been working as a physiotherapist since 2002 and have had the opportunity to work in many different settings across South Australia, Tasmania, Western Australia and the UK. I have worked in acute hospitals, private practices and even a brief stint with the British Army before discovering my real passion for working with older people in 2008.

I am looking forward to being involved with the Strength and Balance group to help keep people on their feet and to getting involved the Pilates groups as I believe this is an area that can benefit so many different people. I am also available to see clients 1:1 for any musculoskeletal problems and for individual rehab programs.

I have most recently been working with an aged care provider, spending a lot of time in residential care facilities so I am very excited to now be working with clients who are still living at home and helping them to stay there.

Footwear for Fitness We are all aware that exercising in the gym or studio requires comfortable clothing, but it also requires the correct footwear for many different reasons. In the gym it is important to protect your toes from the accidental drop of weights or stubbing them on large equipment. A broad soft shoe heel is needed to provide shock absorption to your ankle joints, support to the arches of the foot and allow easy balance. For this reason, fashionable loafers and open toed sandals are not to be worn in the gym or during classes. Before coming to class check your footwear and find your trainers/ sandshoes. Alternatively take advantage of our Amart All Sport 20% off vouchers and get a smart new pair to ensure you maximise your workout.
