Introduction Stay Strong Men group The risk of being diagnosed with prostate cancer increases with age. The risk of having prostate cancer by the age of 75 is 1 in 8 men. By the age of 85, the number increases to 1 in 6 men. Prostate cancer accounts for approximately 30% of cancers diagnosed each year in Australian men and for many of these the main question is “How to live well with Prostate Cancer?”. The effects of the disease and of the interventions designed to treat it, include severe fatigue and muscle weakness which can reduce quality of life. Luckily both of these symptoms respond well to a simple program of exercise, if it is safely designed, progressive and undertaken regularly.

Our aim is to help you make the most of every day, gaining strength, fitness and mobility to truly be ‘active’ every day.

Life Care Active is pleased to announce we will now be offering a dedicated exercise program for men living through or living with Prostate Cancer. This program aims to give men back the strength to enjoy life. A monthly support group will also be available for those individuals looking to share experiences with others on this difficult journey. All enquiries can be made to Jude Lowe, Client Liaison Officer on 8168 7600.

Did you know? The good fats in fish oil have been shown to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer by a recent large analysis of over 26 trials. So follow the advice to eat two portions of seafood a week and raise your chances of staying healthy.

The benefit of Pilates Pilates is a form of exercise that targets the abdominals and deep back muscles, protecting the spine and enabling the major joints such as the shoulder and hips, to maintain their strength and range of motion. Whilst in the past it has been the preserve of dancers and elite athletes, it is now recognised that everyone can benefit from this gentle and focused approach to keeping strong.

If you want to stay strong and reduce the likelihood of recurrent low back pain episodes or are recovering from surgery for back issues – this exercise form is proven to help. Take the first step today and speak with our Client Liaisin, Jude Lower about how Pilates at Life Care Active can help you.

Pilates can be accessed through physiotherapists and through independent studios with specially trained staff. Classes may be provided that focus on floor work or using specific Pilates equipment such as the “Reformer” and “Trapeze Table”.

Live Large Group has commenced Life Care Active is pleased to announce the availability of a new evidence based exercise intervention for individuals living with Parkinson’s.

Websites often show younger individuals in incredible flexible positions, but in fact the inventor of this exercise Joseph Pilates continued his exercise regime through into his eighties. The benefits are in fact even more remarkable for the older adult as the equipment enables you to work with ease, avoiding the compression of common gym equipment on the spine and working shoulders or hips in a functional pain free range - even for those who suffer from arthritis.

Usually the disease causes movements to slow and reduce in size, but this new exercise approach aims to retrain mind and body, and help recalibrate the brain to create larger movements.

We have invested in a well-equipped Pilates studio in order to offer affordable professional Pilates services for everyone. There is a full spectrum of services from 1:1 clinical Pilates with our physiotherapy staff, to group classes and mat work options. You can book a personal consultation with one of our specialists to help choose the right program to meet your needs.
