Save Water, but Take a Shower, Please
T
here’s a lot being said these days about how we can save water— (even here on page 12–13)—but first, let’s look at the latest, front-running non-remedy and talk about showers. I’d like to suggest that it’s a good idea to take showers. Isn’t this the direction we want to go in as a society—or even in small, close-knit groups—toward being washed and clean? Is dirty our destiny or short sighted? Do those who are suggesting skipping showers know that may be a health risk? Water does a lot for the body. Through the centuries it’s been considered therapeutic. It helps us stay healthy and for people who are proactive about their health and exercise, showers are a necessary part of life. Worriers tend to sweat more, right? Should they really skip showers? It may give them more to worry about. On the other hand, if you are someone who sits down all day without moving very much—someone who doesn’t have a lot of stress in their life—then by all means, don’t take showers. Staying at home or shopping mainly at driveup windows would help make it into a contribution to all of us. Personally, as someone who is fairly active and also worries, skipping won’t work well for me. That doesn’t necessarily mean, however, that I plan on wasting water. According to water.usgs.gov, conserveh2o.org and others, if you have a new showerhead and take a 10-minute shower you’re going to use about 25 gallons of water. If you have an old showerhead, you could be using 5 gallons a minute instead of 2.5. Time to turn yourself or your old showerhead in. So 25 gallons is considered an average shower. That’s terrible! The suggested reduction I see over and over is to cut down to 17–20 gallons. That’s terrible too!
What amazes me is San Diego is often referred to as a Navy town, yet no one seems to know how to take a Navy shower! As an experienced practitioner, I propose that Navy showers can save an incredible amount of water, remove guilt about taking showers, and move in the direction of a society that we all want to be a part of, which is, after all, the point, isn’t it? None of us want to run out, right? I decided to experiment. First I bought a plastic, circular cover and covered the shower drain. Then I put my 3-gallon bucket in line with the showerhead and turned on the water, and started collecting warm-up water. I watched closely and as soon as the water warmed up, I got in the shower. Then I pointed the showerhead toward me and in 15 seconds I was thoroughly wet—head to toe. I turned off the water. Then I covered myself with soap. This is probably the right time to mention the old saying, “save water, shower with a friend.” The soaping up part is a great time to have a close friend along. Moving the bucket out of the way so I didn’t get soap in it, I turned the water on again and washed the soap off. I have to admit that I love to have water hit the back of my neck and my shoulders. Hum. My best ideas seem to come at that time. They must be in the water too. Whoops! There went 15 seconds of wasted water. Oh well. Then again, I might as well be realistic and know that will happen. It took another 30 seconds to wash all the soap off. I shut the water off and calculated the amount of water I used. I collected almost two gallons of warm-up water—which my plant friends consider a gift and not a waste. It’s not —continued on page 30

Current News Rave Reviews for Come From Away The La Jolla Playhouse’s world-premiere production of Come From Away is currently running (and extended) until July 12. Come From Away is an original, rock-inspired world-premiere musical based on the true story of when the isolated town of Gander, Newfoundland played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small town turned in to an international sleepover when 38 planes were diverted to Gander on September 11, 2001. Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the spirited town cheered the stranded travelers with music, an open bar and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family. Irene Sankoff and David Hein are a Canadian husbandand-wife writing team. Their first show, My Mother’s Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding (based on David’s mother’s true story) was the hit of the Toronto Fringe Festival and picked up by Mirvish Productions for an extended run, and winning many awards. Also, if you’re seeing a weekend performance (Fri - Sun, matinees, too) of ComeFromAway, come an hour before curtain to take in the Celtic Echoes quartet playing live Irish and Scottish folk tunes outside the theater. The Playhouse staff call this gathering The Welcome Sessions, a convivial precursor to the musical, and it’ll be happening thru the run of this hit musical. “This is the kind of entertainment our world needs right now. It’s a story for everyone, every class, ‘race’ and orientation. Plus, the musical score is amazing,” says Tim Brittain, a member of Celtic Echoes.

Family Constellation Training Comes to San Diego The Family Constellation Training, Healing at the Heart of the Matter, with Krista Jarrard will begin San Diego July 24-26. The Center for Systemic Healing’s 2015 Family Constellation Immersion Learning Program gives participants the rare opportunity to experience a Family Constellations Immersion from an innovator in the field of Systemic Healing, Krista Jarrard. Krista has been a dynamic force as facilitator, trainer and pioneer in the evolution of the Systemic Constellations for over fourteen years. Systemic Family Constellation Work, is the fastest growing change modality to address issues at their source, in the inherited past. The profound effects of Constellation work can provide the MISSING LINK in a healing, and resolution practice. Participating in the unifying field of the Constellation circle will allow a visceral experience of the Systemic Perspective, and the hidden influences of the family imprint that guide our lives. Krista shares “The future of healing now includes the past. People are always surprised to discover that events and conditions in their family past are the origin of current day issues. Until we address an issue at its source point our best efforts for health, happiness and wholeness may be unsuccessful. Our issues did not begin with us, but for them to end with us, the ancestral and family system must be included in healing focus. Systemic Family Constellations reveal and heal the hidden dynamics in issues by getting to the heart of the matter, resulting in long lasting, life changing resolution. Participants emerge from the
program with a new foundation of trust, love, and support.” Anyone with a desire for a greater quality of life for themselves, their family and the world is a candidate for this personal mastery program. It is highly recommended for professionals in the healing, consulting, and creative arts interested in enriching their life and career with this cutting edge modality. The Systemic Perspective may be implemented into one’s personal and professional life upon completion. Leslie Goldman Tips For Winning Back Our Sacred Seeds and Outgrowing GMOs
Leslie Goldman speaking at the #MAM March Against Monsanto, May 23, 2015 By Leslie Goldman
Leslie Goldman, “Your Enchanted Gardener,” Plants Seeds of Success for Super Ripe People and their Dreams. A noted ceremonialist in the eyes of Mother Earth and a full time blogger, he records his ongoing activity and mystical adventures on the Plant Your Dream Curezone Blog (13 million page views). He writes about his Campaigns and Sponsors on the Non GMO, Organic & Fair Trade Shopping Guide on Plant Your Dream Word Press (one million page plus views)— and this month, right here, is his vision and tips for us. Leslie travels in a 1968 Volkswagen van, a celebrity in her own right. A conversation starter, this classic 68 is on The Enchanted Garden Mobile’s Journey to Win Back Our Sacred Seeds, heading toward teaching at the The National Heirloom Expo, Sept 8 | The Life Connection

8–10 in Santa Rosa, CA. Leslie is called California’s Johnnie Appleseed. Their mission--he and his vehicle--is to alert Rare Seeds, individuals living out their soul purpose, to the power that comes from growing original heirloom seeds. Growing these seeds honors biodiversity of the gene pool and keeps vibrant the unique cultural history in each seed. Growing these seeds reconnects us to our own #RareSeed nature and showers us with plant Blessings. —Steve Hays Accepting What is:
GMOs are Invasive
More and more people today are becoming aware of ill effects from GMOs. I believe GMOs--Genetically Modified Organisms-- are made through invasive cell technology that does not belong in our seed supply, food supply, or in our body. GMOs were released without asking and without bona fide testing to make a buck. Our economy cannot improve
if our agricultural system uses GMOs. In Medicine & Ag, Government accepts their safety, and biotechnology would like them to become the status quo. GMOs are an attempt to beat the natural system. More than GMOs, we need a Grass Roots Organic Uprising standing up for Nature’s Original technology-N.O.T. We have lost our beat with nature. Learning to grow seeds, we can get back in beat with nature.
Grow A Healthier Pizza
Our kids have been sold out for profits. Eating habits are taught by popular media, advertising, and in school. S ome food manufacturers, going back 100 years, knew no better than to make a living off of our living. We the People, our offspring, and the ideal of sacred government are bankrupt from bought- and-paid for popular culture divorced from soul and nature. GMOs are a symptom of the need for Food Reform. Help out! Join Campaign to Grow A Healthier Pizza and The Enchanted Garden Mobile’s Journey to Win Back Our Sacred Seeds. Leslie’s Tips:
Winning Back Our Own Sacred Seed means “Plant Your Dream” as much as “Marching Against” what isn’t working.
There is so much to fight for, march against, get angry about; and yet, we need to stand up for the end result we want, a world that accepts we are ALLONE Love, growing in the same pot on Spaceship Earth, so Plant Your Dream!
Lavonne Mireles Clardy, her daughter Tesla, and me, Leslie, after March Against Monsanto
Kids Love Nature. They are in awe of seeds. Youth, the holders of our future, develop by the same laws that govern plants. We grow plant-like.
“Rare Seeds” and Heirloom Seeds I call “Sacred Seeds.”
Jere Gettle, founder of Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company, epitomizes Rare Seeds. At age 17, about 17 years ago, he saw rare seeds disappearing and did something about it. The Baker Creek collection has inspired 1000’s of gardeners He uses the hashtag @RareSeeds to describe their Heirloom Seed Collection. I use this term #Rare-
Seeds metaphorically to apply to humans who are living their soul purpose. I consider “Rare Seeds” and Heirloom seeds to be “Sacred Seeds.” My mission now is to alert Rare Seeds, individuals living out their soul purpose to the great power that comes from growing original heirloom seeds; they are more popular now thanks to The National Heirloom Expo @heirloomexpo. Sept 8-10 in Santa Rosa, CA. Heirloom seeds honor gene pool biodiversity. They keep vibrant our unique cultural history and future. Growing Rare Seeds reconnects me to my own Rare Seed nature and showers me with plant blessings. I wish you the same.

Ever feel that despite your best efforts at wholeness, issues with health, relationship, and success fall short? Now, there is a factual answer for that frustrating phenomenon: Your issues did not begin with you. The science of Epigenetics show that along with the color of our hair and eyes we inherit much more—the blessings AND the burdens, including the conditions and patterns as they existed in our families past. This ener-genetic inheritance, or family imprint, lives on in current issues. Pain and trauma can stay alive in a family for generations. This is the origin of issues that do not resolve. The Systemic Family Constellation approach is the fastest growing change modality to address issues at their source point—the families past. Your issues didn’t start with you, but they can end with you. Family Constellations have the ability to stop the repetition of patterns and generations of suffering. By revealing and healing the hidden dynamics in personal issues we reconnect to the natural flow of strength, love and life in a family system resulting in long lasting, life changing resolution. Remove Your Lawn, Save Water & Get Paid for It by Steve Hays
A
pproximately 70% of the water that we use is used indoors. The largest portion goes to washing clothes and dishes, flushing the toilet and bathing. The remaining 30% is used outdoors, with more than half of that used for watering lawns and gardens. Nationwide it’s estimated that one third of all residential use totals 7 billion gallons a day. That also includes water for washing cars, swimming pools and washing down sidewalks and driveways— which has now been limited in California.
Rebates
One of the biggest ways to save on outdoor water usage is to remove your lawn. To support people in doing that
See socalwatersmart.com for information on the turf removal program. The current reimbursement for turf replacement is two dollars per square foot. There are also other rebates available for indoor and outdoor water conservation improvements, which we will get into in future issues.
Lawn Options
(and taking other water-saving actions) the Metropolitan Water District (MWD) released $350 million for water conservation measures we can take. The funds are being made available to both Los Angeles and San Diego County residents on a first-come first-served basis. It’s estimated that the funds will not last to the end of the year. It’s the nation’s largest program of its kind and could save 80 million gallons of water a day.
The bewaterwise.com site is a good one to look at for options to lawns. They have a video on eliminating water runoff and adjusting your home sprinklers. They also have a section on California friendly garden and local plant nurseries. You can view a list of the top water-friendly plants there. The bougainvillea, for instance, that is seen all over Southern California, is very water friendly. See socalwatersmart.com for information on that program. The current reimbursement for turf replacement is two dollars per square foot. If you decide to go that direction, what do you do next? One site that shows you alternatives is eartheasy. com. Another is sunset.com.
A Great Option
For me, the choice was fairly easy. I was introduced to a class of plants called succulents years ago when I lived in Cardiff. They are perfect plants for planting along the coast because they collect moisture from 12 | The Life Connection
D July 2015
the morning coastal air. The hotter climate in Vista means I use a little bit more water here, but like cactus plants they use a lot less water than regular plants and are very unique in appearance. When I discovered succulents I also discovered euphorbias, which are very fascinating. What euphorbias have in common is that they all have a whitemilky sap. Most of us are familiar with poinsettias, which are euphorbias. So are plants that we commonly call gopher purge. Crown of thorns is another popular euphorbia. They fascinate me because they all look so different. I was often surprised to discover that a plant was a euphorbia. Pine trees and palm trees are pretty recognizable. Euphorbias don’t really have a common look. Unfortunately, I also really like bamboo. Bamboo likes water every day, but if you don’t give it water every day it simply means it doesn’t grow as thick or as fast. Most of my bamboo is in pots. The few that aren’t don’t get much water. The last remaining eight pots will soon be reduced once again. Very soon. I used to have 12 different varieties of bamboo, so I am doing better. They just doesn’t make watersense anymore. So when it became obvious I needed to change and look for alternatives, the choice was fairly simple for me. I knew what types of plants to look for. I revisited Desert Theater Nursery, which specializes in cacti, succulents and euphorbias. Their main nursery is in Escondido, but they also have a smaller location in Vista, which I have been to several times.
I’ve placed several photographs on these pages showing some of their plants. As you can see, one makes a dramatic screen planting and another can be used as a groundcover. They show some of the landscapes they have done on their website at deserttheater.com. Depending on the plant, of course, many of these plants require very little water once established. You can really work backward and decide how much water you want to use, and have the nursery tell you what plants to get.
A Lawn
In contrast, watering a lawn requires about 1 inch of water per square foot (about half a gallon of water) and depending on the heat most lawns require water 3 times a week. That’s about 30 minutes of watering three times a week. If you have a lawn that’s 50′ x 20′ or 1000 square feet, that means you will use about 620 gallons per watering. That’s 1860 gallons a week! That explains why we’ve been limited to one watering a week and why also lawns make no sense anymore. Looking at it that way, maybe using 6 gallons a week on a potted bamboo plant isn’t so bad. They don’t take up much room in pots, however, so are not a real alternative when looking at turf replacement options. The truth is we’ve just been spoiled for a long time in this region—using all the water we’ve wanted—and forgotten that we live in a desert. That also means I’ll be exploring more planting options and writing about it again. There are a lot of ways to save water outdoors, using xeriscape principles, collecting water (when it rains) and using greywater, for instance—watch for more on those topics in coming issues. If you want to estimate how much water you use go to wecalc.com. The site, allianceforwaterefficiency.org, has a resource library on water efficiency. www.LifeConnectionMagazine.com

“
It doesn’t matter what you call it. There is this field, an energy force, and we are all parts of that. We are all energy interacting. All connected in this big field of energy.” — Pam Grout
Energy Cubed
An Interview with Pam Grout By Amelia Leigh, M.S.
In San Diego this month for two events, Pam Grout is a highly respected leader at the forefront of this field and NY Times Bestselling Author of 17 books including E-Squared (E2) and E-Cubed (E3). In her recent book, she portrays a powerful, humorous and easy-to-understand presentation of quantum physics and “FP” (field of potentiality). Pam, living in Kansas with her daughter, is experiencing the life she wants and trying to show us the way! “I think only about what I want to see, tuning in only to my intent, and expecting only good. Life is just a lot more fun this way,” she says. Even though we are all aware of “The Secret” and the power of thoughts we are still living our lives recycling old tapes and automatic behaviors we picked up before the age of five, before we had the intelligence to choose wisely. The fact is there is no universe without a perceiver of that universe, 16 | The Life Connection

and we choose in advance the life we experience. Setting an intention is like entering a destination in to your GPS and launching a rocket of desire. It is the most powerful force of energy we vibrate. Each thought and emotion produces particles of energy forming itself in to the matter of experience. I her book, E-Cubed, she proves it through nine do-ityourself experiments. (See end for info on Pam Grout’s San Diego events). TLC: I really like to travel and hear you do as well. You have been all over the world and even wrote for National Geographic?
Pam Grout: I wrote 3 books for National Geographic. I am a travel writer, so write for many different travel publications including CNN travel and Huffington post. I do quite a bit. My first NG book was 100 Most Meaningful Vacations to Enrich Your Life. This is about volunteer vacations with meaningful travel. It was more of a combination with my inspirational
writing. So these were about inspirational traveling. People who are tired of sitting around with a little umbrella in their drink. They want to do something meaningful. The book has volunteer, arts and crafts, learning and wellness vacations. More than the typical sit at the beach type of vacation.
TLC: That is great. Even people that need to relax will get more out of vacation when giving back.
PG: You also get to know the country in a whole different way. You can easily go to a city and stay in a resort and never get to see what the country is really like. If you are volunteering and meeting with the people, you get a better feel. You really learn something about that country and feel you have accomplished something. It is great to stay in a nice hotel too.
TLC: I feel grateful and always try to pay it forward in life. That being said, I see you have been following a Course in Miracles.
PG: Yeah. I took a workshop in Kansas City about 25 or 30 years ago. A friend mentioned it and it sounded interesting. I love miracles. So I went and got a copy of the book and have been studying it ever since. Then went to Esalen for a month and studied the Course. It’s kinda funny, but it just always felt so right. Even those times when I was reading and thought “what does this mean?” I still really liked it and just kept with it.
TLC: That’s great! Your new books are fantastic! How did these 9 lessons show up in your life that inspired you to implement them into a book?
PG: These principles that I talk about (and so does the Course In Miracles)_Many spiritual teachings from the Bible on down have talked about these principles. It’s great to theorize about them. Talk about them around the water cooler or pulpit. But, it is important practice it. What I offer in this book is little baby steps. Give people something to try. Practice it in your own life. See it with your own two eyes. This stuff works! There really is an invisible force that has your back. The experiments in E-Cubed take about 48 hours. Simple to try. Can be anything from a full-fledge believer to a skeptic. Why not spend 2 days and try it. This isn’t just something to read about, it is something to practice. See it in action.
there really is this force, then give me a sign. Make it clear. And have it show up within 48 hours. It isn’t about putting it to the test, it is simply a way of jarring us to pay attention. It is always wanting to interact with us and guide us. It is constantly there. We don’t have to do anything to be good enough. It is just there. So we need to pay attention. It is a way to introduce people to not just read about, but practice them in your life. Let people know this really can happen.
TLC: I like how you have taken quantum physics and applied it to ordinary life. One of my goals is to help prove this unified field, or as you call it the Field of Infinite Potentiality. Can you describe this for our readers?
There are a lot of different descriptions. Some people call is God. They call it the quantum field. It doesn’t matter what you call it. There is this field, and energy force, and we are all parts of that. We are all energy interacting. All connected in this big field of energy. We are playing out in our small bodies. We think this is what it is. It is just so vast that we can’t even get our minds around it. It’s the big mystery. A big thing that we are all attached to and part of that flows through us. Interacting with all the time.
TLC: I am really looking at how everything is connected. What do you think is shifting when people are experiencing synchronicity? Is it an electromagnetic shift due to a law of attraction? Or is there a divine presence creating this? —continued on page 26
TLC: And it gives proof. Sometimes people need some evidence to believe there is really an energy force around us. If someone is new to this understanding, where do you suggest they begin? I started with parking spaces a few years ago.
PG: Simple things like the Volkswagen Jetta experiment from the book E-Squared. Start looking for things in your life like a yellow butterfly or white feather. If you think you can easily think something and you will manifest a Jaguar, your energy field is going to say “oh yeah, right”. Of course that will block energy. I think you can manifest big things, but there is resistance to those big things. Take baby steps. If www.LifeConnectionMagazine.com

New Life Awakening through Kundalini Kriya Yoga
By Amelia Leigh, M.S.
In 2011, Kundalini Kriya Yoga Master Yogiraj Siddhanath wrote Babaji: The Lightning Standing Still, which was awarded the Most Influential Book of the n New Millennium Award by the American Authors n Association. On May 10, 2013, he was honored by the highest authority on the Sanatan n Dharma in India, with the title of Yog Maartand n (Supreme Sun of Spiritual Splendor) and Chhatrapati Shivaji Raje Ratna (Precious Jewel). He will arrive in Southern California for his 2015 tour and host Healing Enlightenment Satsangs & Kriya Yoga Empowerment Workshops in San Diego/Encinitas & Los Angeles from July 18-26, followed by a retreat in Carlsbad from August 6-9. For more details, check Siddhanath.org/events. The Life Connection: What is Kriya Yoga, and why should one do it?
Yogiraj Siddhanath: Kriya Yoga is an inner ascent through ever more refined, ever more expanded spheres of mind, to get to divine consciousness that lies at the core of your own being. Kriya Yoga is very scientific, and it depends upon the offering of two pranic currents, one into the other. The upward pranic current and the downward panic current are offered one into the other. This is the sacred fire rite of the yogi. As the consciousness moves up and down the spine along with these currents, you burn your negative karma and evolve consciousness. Ultimately, you get to the state of selfrealization. After you keep practicing Kriya Yoga, the grace of the divine Lord descends upon you. A transition takes place through the “stargate” of third eye. Once you penetrate this “stargate” you shift from divine mind to divine consciousness. In other words, you shift from mind’s duality to the solitary singularity. It’s the alchemy of the mind. That is the purpose and goal of Kriya Yoga. If you want to know more about this 31 20 || The The Life Life Connection Connection

transformative process, you can read my writings. You can find my books on Amazon.com.
TLC: You teach Kundalini Kriya Yoga. Can you explain what Kundalini is, and how the Kriya Yoga awakens it?
YS: I’ve explained this many times. I would rather make you experience it, instead of explaining it. That’s the better way. So if you come to me for the Kundalini Kriya Yoga and Satsangs (question & answer session), I will give you an experience of the Kundalini (coiled serpent energy). How will you like that? Instead of explaining what a mango is, come to India during mango season and taste it. Basically Kundalini is the electromagnetic energy of the universe. After the building of the universe, there was excess energy and then ultimately nature, plants and animals. After that there still was extra, so they put some of the excess energy in the base of every spine of man as a reserve. So that is your spiritual heritage. It’s a psycho-spiritual heritage. It’s dynamic energy, which takes your soul to divine consciousness. Energy is Chit (absolute consciousness). When Kundalini is awakened, she burns the karma, which is surrounding the soul. The Kundalini is the mother (at the base chakra), the soul is the son, and the Chit is the father (at the crown chakra). Symbolically speaking, the mother raises up the son to the father.
TLC: Is daily meditation and/or prayer enough to achieve enlightenment or divine bliss? Does Kriya Yoga need to be part of one’s path?
YS: Firstly, Kriya Yoga is absolutely necessary in my opinion for the sincere seeker’s path to God because you put your full concentration on the Sushumanadi (psychic nerve current which runs the length of the spine). You’re traveling the airplane path, the supersonic path, the lightning path. It goes subtler and subtler. You’re preparing your body, mind and soul to be ready for God, to express cosmic consciousness.
TLC: Do you need a living Guru in order to
progress on the Kriya Yoga path? What if I have been already initiated into the Kriya Yoga through another Master who may not be living now?
YS: Refer to my YouTube video titled, “Living Master, Dead Letter.” It’s all given there.
TLC: Why is the grace of the Guru, also known as Gurukripa, necessary?
YS: The grace of God, people think is, “Hey, let’s have women, wine and laughter, and the Lord God the day after!” Sorry, he’s not going to come. Because God’s house (your body temple), has not been prepared. Where will he come? And you will say, “God where are you?” And God will say, “I am where I am. Don’t box me into that house. You haven’t created a house of love and care. You haven’t made your house a home.” You’ve made a house through Hatha yoga, but you haven’t made a house a home through Bhakti (devotion) and Kriya yoga.
bank because that’s where we have the maximum amount of tsunamis. In Sumatra, we have earthquakes. You don’t go to invest all your biscuits or gold in a place that will be drowned by the sea or swallowed up by the earth. No, you would go to a steady place, a steady foundation like Switzerland. There we would put our money in a safe. Life itself is like a hurricane. You identify with this question because you think I have a fear of losing myself in the impermanence of life. Life itself is impermanence. Don’t identify yourself with your emotional body or with physical body or the circumstances surrounding it—which is also impermanent. Don’t identify yourself with anything in relativity, with any person, place or thing because it ultimately changes and perishes. Invest in something which is everlasting and permanent. It’s your divine indweller, the spirit of your soul. The answer lies within. The answer lies within!
TLC: Can you describe your own experience when your students begin to evolve in the process of self-realization? YS: So instead of describing how the Kundalini awakens
TLC: How can we know that we are making and how you feel, I’ve found a better way. I give them three spiritual progress? distinct graces of the SatGuru: Shaktipat, which is the transYS: Not by information, not by intellectualizing. By knowing. By being the knower. By experiencing your selfrealization, you can know.
TLC: It seems that all suffering distills to two fears: the fear of never attaining the fruits of a desire — and the fear of losing the fruits of our efforts to the impermanence of life. Is base duality at the core of all delusion? YS: Yes. Everything in a relative world, whether it be a person, place or thing, has to undergo change. Evanescence is the nature of Maya (delusion). Impermanence and change is the nature of duality. Therefore, we should go to something which permanent and constant. When you invest in a bank, you don’t go to Sumatra or Japan by seaside and invest in a
mission of Kundalini. I also breathe through their breath. This process is called Pranapat. Lastly, I give Shivapat, which is the transmission of Soul Consciousness. I make them discover and experience things for themselves. They feel the bliss. They feel the Kundalini stiffen their spine, and they go into super-conscious states of Samadhi (meditative absorption). So, it’s better than intellectually talking… it’s better to give them an experience. Your soul goes into a state of expanded ecstasy, and I make you feel that. Come and experience this for yourself. Discover this by practicing Kundalini Kriya Yoga. Get a taste of Samadhi. That’s the way I teach, through the giving of experience. But those who can’t give the experience, teach it. But those who can give it, they should give it freely. —continued on page 24

Unlimited Possibilities – The Next Step By Roger Cavnaugh, PhD Predicting the future is risky. We don’t often get it right, and we almost always are surprised by unanticipated events and the unintended consequences of our choices. And the crises that have punctuated human history, especially this last century when we have added accelerating science, technology and industrialization to the mix, make it clear that we get distracted from what we later understand to have been lurking all along in the shadows of our preoccupations with the dance of the ego to the lower chakras’ siren songs. Our time, energy and mentality tends to get absorbed by how we can get more of the latest versions of power, money, status, conspicuous consumption, sex, and now the latest mask of glamor, appearing to be a ‘spiritual’ person. Then we are shocked when reality in the form of a 9/11, an Arab Spring, a Great Recession, a murderous fundamentalism, the hidden violence of persistent racism, the extent of sexual violence across our institutions, or some other troublesome issue arises to let us know there is more to the moral dimensions of our choices than we realized, that too often what we say are our values is not what we live, and that our perspective of what’s in play in our human journey does taken into account some crucial understanding that’s necessary for our welfare. Currently, with some helpful prodding from Pope Francis, we are renewing our attempts to come to terms with climate change, one face of the profound ecological crisis resulting from the amoral and materialistic assumptions that structure the fundamental ways in which we organize ourselves and live our lives. As his encyclical points out, our way of life places a burden on the most vulnerable, contributes to the degradation of the planet that is ours to steward, plays into the concentration of wealth and power that distort law, politics and government, and reinforces an empty consumerism. If spirituality offers the biggest possible picture of where we are and what we can expect for the future, it’s helpful to ask ourselves, from this perspective, how do we want to live and what do we really want to create? There is no quick answer here that’s an antidote to the sickness of the body politic. I introduced this column in the previous issue as an ongoing space in which to reflect on the immediacy of the multiple challenges we face and the unprecedented opportunities before us in this season of change. Many of us have a deep felt sense that even while the world around us is in a seemingly chaotic process of revealing the repeated failures of our key institutions to provide for basic human needs; we are on the threshold of what can be, if we 22 | The Life Connection

choose, a profound renewal of the totality of our way of life. Birthing both out of necessity and from the increasing internal pressure of people everywhere determined to claim their dignity and their freedom to create a way life that reflects our inherent nobility as spiritual beings, this renewal has already succeeded in opening up our wider culture through the many paradigm changes fostered by new perspectives on healing. These perspectives are fast leaving the old mechanical and soulless models of body and medicine behind as both research and practice are demonstrating that working from an integral sense of body, mind and spirit as natural expressions of a unitary multidimensional field of energy and consciousness is more effective than just treating the symptoms and promotes well being. The key insight in genuine healing is that more and more people are understanding that what we have called “God or Spirit” is the source, essence and matrix for all mental and physical phenomena. The same understanding that Spirit or Divinity is an all inclusive multidimensional reality, prior to all manifestation, applies directly to the next phase of our collective healing, healing the body politic and the community of nations. We can understand the roots of violent conflict and all the other symptoms of a dysfunctional world order and our wounded cultures to be very much the same as the causes of disease in individuals: nations, social classes, generations and age groups, cultures, sexes, institutions, religions, philosophies and other ideologies, ethnic groups, families, professions, and communities, all acting like fragments of the human ego, competing as if what’s needed to live well is limited and only available to a few, seeking dominance and special advantage, and acting as if individual interests justify using, controlling, ignoring, or devaluing others rather than honoring what they bring to the totality and including them in a mutually supportive way. Applying an ethic of the common good and restructuring our institutions around that principle runs directly counter to how we have enshrined individual advantage as the supposed engine of motivation and founding assumption of our economy. If we take seriously the view that there is an intrinsic moral order and realm of meaning that expresses the nature and intent of the One as Consciousness, then there is probably a limit to the extent that we ourselves will tolerate straying from what we believe the Divine to be. And as well we can anticipate reaching a limit to what can possibly be stable and viable if that creation operates contrary to the essential unity and dignity of
all Life. So if we were to predict the most significant feature of what is to come, we might think of it as a challenge to selfish individualism, based on fears of separation from God and belief in our abandonment, that is willing to sacrifice the welfare of others and aggressively suppress rivals, because it believes it must, for the sake of meeting basic needs. Instead of awaiting a savior, a great leader or some transcendent event to resolve the seemingly intractable issues that face us, we can imagine that what has occurred in the past will continue: the evolution of humanity which transforms its circumstances and understanding of itself as a response to crisis. Then it’s up to us to create consciously, and as best we can, with reverence for Life and cooperation with Life, rather than being passive because we suppose the world will muddle through, continuing year after year much as it is. Let’s instead understand that as in the past an unavoidable challenge will occur that turns us toward what we have neglected, most likely in the next few years an intersection of our continuing state of war with the imbalances and excesses of an economy that produces more and more for fewer and fewer. Next time we will look at the coming crisis as a planetary initiation, the giving up of a sense of smallness that goes back to identifying who we are with the body, in favor of taking on a larger sense of ourselves as multidimensional beings, creative intelligences made in the image of our Source and embodying the unlimited possibilities of the play of Consciousness. TLC: As a Satguru, you seem to prefer to ripen the samskars (latent tendencies) of your students with experience over the teaching of “dry” ethics. Can you explain the gnosis behind this?
YS: I teach through experience. Everyone will have the divine experience in a different light or with a different taste based on their past karma. When I give the Shivapat, a state of Samadhi that you all share with me, some see Moses, some see a big Shivaling, some see me totally disappear. It’s the same experience given by the same master to different people. Why is there a difference in experience? Because that same Kundalini energy affects people differently. Some people see nothing, but smell different things. Some people just sense a great power. Hence, they experience different states of the same Kundalini energy transmission.
TLC: Is this love and admiration for the beauty of life a detriment to the search for God? YS: Love can only be experienced after he’s seen God in Savikalpa Samadhi. So that love you’re talking about is either lust or relative love. There is some agenda there. Agenda love. True love can only be experienced in a desireless state. True love is experienced after you go into Samadhi. The other

love you’re talking about is material love, relative love, agenda love. He who is rested in humility and burning with love is already there. Love is Savikalpa Samadhi.
TLC: Why have you agreed to this role?
YS: I haven’t agreed or disagreed to this role. I am just the breeze. I’m just the waterfall. You walk under the waterfall, and say, “Oh how nice! Your water is very refreshing.” I’m not doing anything. I’m just being a waterfall. A realized master just does what’s natural for him and millions benefit from that. My nature is love. People feel healed from just being around me. Their headaches go away. They’re cured from their schizophrenia. So let me tell you, I say this with all humility because these are cultural shocks for the Western mind. I don’t want to appear to be a pompous person trained to do something special. I do this with all humility. This is a very important point to know that many times the healings that I do – actually people come and tell me – I am not even aware that I have healed the person. I’m happy I’m not aware because this helps me to subdue and keep my ego at zero. I am not more; I am not less. I am just who I am. I am not aware of that healing process, and I just walk on. Isn’t that better? The moment one becomes aware, that’s ego. I radiate love without awareness. D

PG: I think they are kind of the same. All roads lead to Rome so to speak. I feel thoughts do have energetic charge. Our feelings have magnets that draw them back to us. I also feel the energy field, God, or divine presence. It doesn’t matter what you call it. This came to me “out of the blue” is another synonym. There is this thing that is going on. It is to our advantage to use it in a positive way. We are using it all the time anyway. We don’t ever not use it. We might just not be aware of it. Remain in the problem state and continue to manifest problems and issues and challenges. It is really important to move into the possibility state. Start realizing that any probability is just as possible as any other probability. Whatever we focus our attention upon we animate into our lives. It is really important to put our attention upon possibilities. Use our imagination and create better things. If we continue to look at what is, then we recreate that over and over and over again.
TLC: It is so important to focus on the positive. What is the best way you have found to help rewire the brain to think more positive? It starts with being aware and gratitude. PG: Gratitude is definite a positive energy. So being grateful is where it all starts. I talk a lot about the momentum at the beginning of your day. If you get the positive momentum going then it is
a little easier when the negative thoughts start coming. If a thought comes up, it isn’t pleasant or worried about something.. The course of miracles teaches to say “Holy Spirit help me see this differently.”. Our consciousness is the mental architecture that forms around us. As long as you can start out with the positive and stay that way. Intend your day. Make no decisions on my own and that will be the day we have. If we think of all those decisions that we operate under. It doesn’t have to be that way. Because we are all the mental operators, we do tend to see a lot of that. One thing I talk about is to stand in the wonder woman pose, like I showed in my Ted Talk. Doing these physiological lowers cortisol and increase testosterone, which gives you more confidence. Doing these things like dancing, you actually dump all this serotonin and dopamine into our brain. So that is one way of looking at it, the chemical level. Which is what scientist are wanting to do. If you start noticing then try to see it different and appeal to a bigger thing. The infinite potentiality. Truth with a capital T.
TLC: I hear you have a power posse. That is a great way to get your friends involved. Tell me more about that.

PG: Yes, and we will be doing some experiments from the book. We’ll have a good time and rake the energy way. All interact in a positive happy way.
TLC: What do you have planned for the future? Heard about a screen play.
PG: I have been in this whirlwind of books and seminars. Written a televeision series. About sustainability and love. Set in a conscious community. It is something near and dear to my heart. So eventually I will get back to that.
TLC: Do you have any other spiritual practices that you do?
PG: I am pretty physical and do meditate. I believe in quieting my mind. Really mindlfulness is a big thing for me. Living in the now and being connected to the bigger thing. Because of our mental aricthture. When we are so busy worrying about the future or connected to the past. Living in the now is kinda the secret to everything. So I guess you call that a spiritual practice. I occasionally
do yoga sometimes. I am an omnivore of all practices.

Amelia’s Note Hello, Month of Independence! This is a perfect time to have gratitude for our freedom. For me, It has been a wonderful journey coming out to California and meeting inspirational people. I love traveling and exploring new areas. There are so many exiciting things to experience here in San Diego, California and beyond! Have you ever heard of Indian Time? It is something I practice frequently. Harmonize with nature. Appreciate your blessings. Live life by the location of the sun, how you feel, and what you need to accomplish. I always go with the flow and live in the present moment. In reality, everything is a miracle. We must learn and grow from all new experiences that come our way. Why define yourself by the past? Simply grow and move forward. Onward and (we hope) upward! My desire to help make a positive difference in this world is the fuel to my passion. Here are a few important lessons I have learned along the way:
By Amelia Leigh, M.S. We are transforming this magazine into the catalyst for change. If only we all had the awareness to be the best we can be, the world would obviously be a much different place. I have set forth to help inspire others to be—better. What is it going to take to make us realize we all have the individual power to make a postive difference in our lives? Each day we are reborn. All of us on this Earth are witnessing the same day, sun, and stars. Let us all strive to leave this world a better place than we found it.
