my approach ........................................................................................... “Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever... it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything. ~Aaron Siskind
My approach to wedding photography is simple: I focus on telling the story of your day. From getting ready to exiting the reception, your story is a series of moments. My job is to capture them. With my documentary approach, I work around my clients in the hopes that they can focus on their day and not be distracted by my presence. I am also directive when my client needs me to be (for example, directing and setting up group photos, portraits, etc.). When my clients tell me I am unobtrusive, then I know I am doing my job.

{Pre-Wedding Planning} I believe it is important for me to stay in touch with you during your wedding planning process. I am always available to answer any questions or provide any feedback that you may need from me as you plan out all of the details of your big day. I also believe including me in the wedding timeline discussions helps benefit the entire team, as I am able to provide some insight into how long different photo situations will take and help determine appropriate times for certain photos. A month before your wedding I will schedule your consult. Final payment will also be due during this time. We can schedule a phone consult or, depending on your location, we can meet in person to talk. During this consult we will finalize the group/family photo list, talk about any other photo requests, run through the timeline, and go over any other details we might need to discuss.
{The Wedding} I arrive early to the wedding site to so that I can familiarize myself with the setting. I like to look at lighting conditions and make sure I have ideas in mind for where I will take group photos and the bride & groom portraits. I will also make myself helpful in any way that I can all while documenting your day. This is the fun part-- where all the worrying and stressing goes away and you get to enjoy your beautiful day!
{Online Gallery} Four to six weeks after your wedding, I will email you with the information to access your password protected online gallery. In the gallery you will find all of your edited images. This gallery can be shared with friends & family and they can purchase prints directly from the gallery.
{Product Ordering} While all of my wedding packages include digital rights, you do have the option to purchase any large prints, canvases, or any other specialty items from me (see The Products page for details). Depending on your location, you can either come to my home studio or we can setup a phone call to place your order. Once we have finalized all the products you would like to order, I will make any final edits and then send them off to my professional print lab. Orders are usually processed and delivered within two weeks. For album orders (an album is included in the Deluxe Package), I will work closely with you to design an album that includes images you would like to use from your special day. You will have the opportunity to review the layout, recommend changes, and approve the final product. Turnaround times for album orders are longer. With the design process included, it could take anywhere from 6-10 weeks. Orders will either be dropped shipped or hand delivered to your home, depending on how far you live from my home studio.

important information ........................................................................................... The information below provides some insight into all of the trends that come along with wedding planning and directly effect the photography service provided. The items below cover some topics that I feel all brides and grooms should think about.
{unplugged weddings} With the advances in technology and the availability of all kinds of devices, it is not uncommon for guests to be taking photos during your day with a cell phone, iPad, point & shoot camera, and even advanced DSLR cameras. I have no issues with asking guests to step out of the way if they are in my way during a critical moment, but there is no guarantee that when I photograph a ceremony that I won’t have several photos of guests using some sort of device to snap a picture. Due to this “issue”, a new tactful concept has emerged in the wedding industry called unplugged weddings. This concept addresses two major issues that were occurring on wedding days. One being, the fact that photographer has to work harder to avoid the guests that are bold enough to be in the way during critical moments. There are even times where it is not possible to avoid the bold guest resulting in the bride & groom receiving images with a guest and their device in the image. Some of these images aren’t a big deal when the guest is sitting in their seat, or out of the way of the moment, but when a guest gets up from their seat during the ceremony and stands “in the way”, it becomes difficult for the photographer to do their job. Two, a lot of times, photos of the bride and groom hit social media sites within minutes of the guest taking their photo. This is an issue that either does or doesn’t bother a couple. With an unplugged wedding, at the ceremony guests are asked to put down their cell phone and cameras, enjoy the day and allow the professional photographer capture what the couple has paid he/she to do. I believe the decision to have an unplugged wedding should be something my couples should decide for themselves. While I cannot control all situations, no matter what situation I do encounter, my job is to do the absolute best I can do.
{first look} Another new trend in the wedding photography world! Deciding on whether or not to have a “first look” before the ceremony or wait for the traditional first look when the bride is walking down the aisle to the groom is a decision that is entirely up to the bride and groom. The main benefit of the first look (before the ceremony) is to allow less time to be spent on bride and groom portraits after the wedding. The less time spent on photos after the ceremony allows the bride and groom to make it to cocktail or the reception and not leave their guests waiting.
{planning out the wedding day schedule} This is a very important part in the wedding planning stages. While some brides have a wedding planner help them generate a schedule for the day, some work to create their own. Either way, I believe it is important to include the wedding photographer in this process. After shooting many weddings, I have a good idea on figuring out how much time is needed for photos. {Side note: Each bride & groom are different and some prefer to make sure they spend the max amount of time available for photos, while others would rather put a tighter limit on the time). With either situation, I can help recommend when certain images should be taken and how much time needs to be allotted for the different photo scenarios.
........................................................................................... {photography during the ceremony} Some churches do not allow photography during a wedding ceremony. Additionally the person ordaining your marriage may not want the wedding photographer to take photos during certain times. I ask that all of my bride and grooms find out the rules beforehand so that I can follow all of them and do what is necessary on their big day!
{bride & groom portraits} I covered some of this in the “planning out the wedding day schedule, but I think it is important for the bride and groom to communicate where photos rank (priority wise) on their big day. While I do not believe it is my job to specify a certain amount of time that will be appropriate, I can speak from experience that it is important to create dedicated time for bride & groom portraits. This day only happens once and I want to make sure that my bride and grooms have beautiful photos to decorate their home with.
{pinterest} Pinterest is a huge trend in the wedding industry and a great tool for helping brides put all their ideas together in one spot. I think every bride I have worked with has created a wedding board. A lot of times brides share their boards with me and I enjoy getting an idea of what the wedding will potentially look like. Sometimes the boards do include wedding photography inspiration. I am happy to look at these for inspiration, but my number one goal is not to replicate another photographer’s work, but creates images that are special and unique to each bride & groom.
frequently asked questions ........................................................................................... {q} What forms of payment do you take? {a} Paypal, Check, & Cash {q} How long will it take to get my online gallery back? {a} For the weddings that I do not have a 2nd photographer, I will have the online gallery ready 4 weeks after the wedding. For weddings with a 2nd photographer, the gallery will be ready 6 weeks after the wedding. {q} How many photos will be in my online gallery? {a} This varies for each wedding (especially if coverage time is greater than 8 hours). While I take a lot of photos throughout the day, I only share my best work. My online galleries for 8 hours of wedding coverage typically include 400-600 images. {q} Will all of my images be in color and B&W? {a} Not all of your images from your wedding will be converted to B&W. I believe that only certain images look best in B&W and during the editing process I will make the creative decision on which images to convert. {q} Why does your coverage start at 8 hours? {a} I have found that the least amount of coverage needed to tell the story of your day is 8 hours. With any coverage less than this, I find that I miss out of some of the important events of the day.
