Identity Theft Protection: New Service in Arizona How You Can Improve Your Credit Score Here ph

Sharon applies for a loan and is shocked to find that she is denied credit. She’s always had perfect credit so she can’t understand what could possibly be wrong. John receives a letter from a collection agency regarding a debt he has no knowledge of. These are just two examples of how you might find out that you’ve been the victim of identity theft. Identity theft — the unauthorized use of one’s personal information such as name, social security number or credit card number -– affects more than 9 million Americans each year according to the Federal Trade Commission. Arizona ranked second in the US for identity theft in 2010, but Desert Schools Federal Credit Union has a solution for its customers. IdentitySecure will provide peace of mind for customers by monitoring their personal information and preventing this devastating victimization.

Desert Schools customers can register their debit and credit cards as well as their social security numbers, which will then be monitored in real-time with a comprehensive web-crawling technology. Additionally, enrolled members will receive credit reports from all three credit reporting agencies, including credit scores and credit monitoring from the bureaus. If a suspected compromise of personal information does arise, the credit union will assist customers through the process of recovery through their Identity Fraud Support Service caseworkers. Destruction of documents with identifying information is another step to preventing identity theft. The credit union will be hosting a Shred-a-Thon on May 21, 2011 at the Goodyear branch from 9:00am to noon. Members can bring up to five standard printer paper boxes of documents to shred at no cost. Cathy Graham, Assistant Vice President of Marketing at Desert Schools, says that customers who use IdentitySecure will never have to worry about what they don’t know. While many programs exist for identity protection, choosing a local option is important to Arizona’s economy. Desert Schools is a member of Local First Arizona and supports local businesses. IdentitySecure provides just one more reason to buy locally – even in banking. For more information, visit your local Desert Schools Federal Credit Union branch.
