“They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.” —Romans 1:25 | Our hearts are made to worship! But when we start to put the created things on the same level as the Creator, our hearts are prone to wander and begin to believe that we need things as much as we need Christ. We can enjoy coffee, napping, and a clean home—but let’s remember who created those things!
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” —Hebrews 13:8 | Christ is the one thing that never changes, never lets us down, and never comes up short. He is the same for all of time! C.S. Lewis explained, “God cannot give peace and happiness apart from Himself because it is not there. There is no such thing.” Once we have been satisfied in Jesus, nothing else will even come close. He is the One that can satisfy—and only Him—today and always.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is a gift from God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” —Ephesians 2:8-9 | Before Christ, we are striving to be approved and accepted based on our works and good deeds. We will never measure up on our own. But through Christ, by grace, we’ve been given an eternal hope and salvation. We need nothing more than the sufficient grace of Jesus for acceptance, joy and life.
“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which He has granted to us His precious and very good promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desires.” 2 Peter 1:3-4 | Did you catch that? Through Jesus we have ALL THINGS that we need for life and godliness. That is the reason that we can claim Jesus Plus NOTHING is all that we need!
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea... The L ORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah.” —Psalm 46:1-2 | Friend, God is with you. He is a refuge when you want to hide and He is strength when you are weary. He is enough without anything added. He is present and near for all that we could ever hope for.

1. Journaling helps us keep record of all that we learn in God’s Word. 2. Journaling allows us to process and helps the words we read on the pages sink into our mind, which in time transforms our hearts. 3. Journaling allows us to go back and read prayers that have since been answered. It shows us how God has worked in our lives over time. 4. Journaling leaves a legacy for your children or grandchildren to read one day. The words you’ve poured out on the pages serve as a scrapbook of sorts, recording your ups and downs with the Lord. 5. Journaling is a helpful discipline that keeps us coming back day after day to the Word and gives us space to really dig in and understand all that we read.
