The D23 is built in Barcelona, ideal for day trips and coastal sailing, as well as a tender for mega yachts or water taxi for resorts, channels and harbor areas of touristic interest. The simple lines and angular shapes make it a boat of modern design and elegant, unlike most boats, especially of this length. The aesthetics in this case will not conflict with the performance or functionality but rather the opposite. It has been designed especially considering the ergonomics aspects to provide maximum comfort for both the steering and their occupants. The boat performs excellently sailing and even provides comfort above the ordinary sailing at over 38 knots with great stability. It’s designed for up to 8 people and offers various seating and deck configuration possibilities very easy to adapt. It has a long list of options for configuring the D23 to each customer's taste so it can be perfectly adapted to the needs and type of navigation of each person. The D23 can have the bow closed with a sundeck or completely clear; it can also come with a low windshield as a baffle or a raised one to provide more protection and you can even opt for a hard top or a removable bimini perfect for those hot summer days. The aft area, which also allows different adaptations, has wide aisles and easy access through the bathing semi-platforms. Other attractions of the D23 are the standard teak, the practical fender-seats or the cover that hides the outboard engine. Its most remarkable aspect in innovation is the concept of the location of the engine. The result is the use of a conventional outboard motor, with a power between the 115HP and 200HP, and that thanks to a wise combination of volumes and proportions of the boat is completely hidden. This way it offers the familiar advantages of an outboard motor with the aesthetic result of an inboard engine and the better use of the space on deck. Moreover, the cover has the advantage of acting as a sound enclosure reducing the noise that the engine generates. The wide range of colors to choose for the hull and cushions and the great combination of elements to equip the D23 makes that there are no two D23 alike and can be adapted to each person's taste.

NOT FOR THOSE WITH A HEAVY RIGHT FOOT
I T ’ S A C A R W I T H everything you could wish for. It is fast, has a gorgeous design, is fast, has Gull – wing doors and is fast (oh, did we mention that already?). But really, it’s a great car for a nice long ride a beautiful Sunday afternoon. McLaren have managed to get a lot of knowledge and experience during the 50 years in motorsports they have been around. McLaren has been active for about 25 years amongst the extreme supercars brand, but has stayed quite unknown till now. Car enthusiasts will of course recognize their F1, a car from the early 90’s you could call your own for just over seven million sek (then) and who was especially known because of its revolving doors and 2 + 1 configuration (the driver was placed in the middle of the car with passengers, just behind left and right). But since 2011 McLaren has taken the bold step to begin to compete with the “volume” brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin and Porsche. The series that will take up the fight is called “Sport Series” and share their genes with McLaren Super Series and Ultimate series.

“YES. I COULD ACTUALLY BUY IT RIGHT NOW. I MEAN, IT’S NOT TENS OF MILLIONS WE’RE TALKING ABOUT HERE. JUST TWO.”
The first model in this series, a 570S Coupé, was introduced in April. A wonderfully designed car with a recognizable appearance and with a price tag in the class “Yes. I could actually buy it right now. I mean, it’s not tens of millions we’re talking about here. Just two.” An ultra-light car with a carbon fiber monocoque, wing doors and around the highest hp / kg ratio in its class and even a member of the “200mph Club”. “200mph Club” (ie cars driving 320 km/h or more, which includes the Bugatti Veyron and Koenigsegg staying), there must be something that can take you there. The 570S does a 3.8 liter V8 work. With the help of two turbochargers releasing the 562 hp through a sequential 7-speed gearbox to the rear wheels. In this way, when the car is driving 100km/h limit in 3.2 seconds and 6 seconds later, 200 km/h limit. Not a car for people with a heavy right foot if you know what we mean…

With a luggage compartment that offers space for two backpacks. A car that, on paper, is a McLaren trough and through, but with a slightly kinder price tag, starting from 1.850.000sek and the most affordable and userfriendly McLaren so far, according to Mr McLaren himself. As a result, Ferrer is now an advocate for the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) and its sister organization in Europe, EURORDIS. He is donating proceeds from a children’s book he has written to NORD and EURORDIS. He serves as the international ambassador for rare disease day. Sean Hepburn Ferrer, and the Director of Membership for NORD, Lisa Phelps, sat down to talk about the first international Rare Disease Day
JUST REAL QUICK I WANTED TO TELL YOU THAT ONE OF MY FAVORITE PAINTINGS IN MY OFFICE IS A PORTRAIT OF YOUR MOTHER, AUDREY.
Sean Hepburn – Awe, that’s wonderful!
WE LOVE HER. WE MISS HER DEARLY AND IT’S JUST SUCH A PLEASURE TO HAVE YOU HERE TO TALK WITH US ABOUT SUCH AN IMPORTANT, BUT OFTEN OVER LOOKED ISSUE, RARE DISEASES.
Sean Hepburn – I know, and yet they are phenomenal. When you put all the numbers together – 60 million worldwide and 30 million in America – those are some serious numbers to reckon with. IT TRULY IS. AND THIS ISSUE CLEARLY HITS HOME. WHEN DID YOU REALIZE YOUR MOTHER WAS STRUGGLING WITH
nocarcinoma. PMP is a form of rare cancer that doesn’t develop a tumor, but sort of sprinkles the stomach and intestinal cavities. And I have to tell you; we felt a crushing sense of loneliness, a lack of options, and a lack of treatments. But I’m glad to announce that this now a thing of the past. Not only has medical research come a long way, but the amount of options and treatments are way up. Survival rates are way up and remissions are a reality. That sense of loneliness that we felt, thanks to the work of NORD (National Organization of Rare Disease) and it’s European counterpart, that feeling has really become a thing of the past.
A RARE DISEASE?
Sean Hepburn – It took a while to get the first diagnosis. We thought she had caught a bug on one of those trips to Africa for UNICEF. Then she did an endoscopic procedure, but the primary was in the appendix--which is too sharp a corner for the cameras. Finally, when they operated on her, they discovered that she had PMP or pseudomyxoma peritonei. At the time it was called ade-

Lisa Phelps – Yeah, the nomination for an Oscar was wonderful for this community because with 7000 rare diseases, the lack of attention and awareness for them is so critical. It’s a great film, made by a great family and we’re very happy for them. THAT’S GREAT! SEAN, YOU HAVE ALSO WRITTEN A BOOK.
Sean Hepburn – I did. I started writing before I was asked to be an ambassador. It’s a book that celebrates the life of a dear friend by the name of, Mauricio Saravia. He suffered from a condition called McCune-Albright (syndrome), and yet he lived a fulfilling and complete life, both as an individual and as an artist. The book is called, ”Mauricio of Uruguay.” It’s avail-

What better way to acquire a children’s book, which teaches you about courage and lightness of heart, to sort of start to think in the right terms about what it means to have a rare disease or any disease at all. LISA, LET’S HOPE THAT SEAN HAS PLANS
NOW LET’S TALK ABOUT THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL RARE DISEASE DAY.

O S T P E O P L E AG O N I S E about where in the world they want to go on holiday, but my advice is to forget Earth completely. After speaking to Space Adventures, it’s clear the world is not enough. The company’s Stacey Tearne talks like any other travel agent. The only difference is that the destination she discusses is the stuff of Interstellar movie dreams and the costs are light years away from a week in Langkawi. – Basically we customise our services to whatever you require, Tearne tells Lifestyle. – We can fly you to the International Space Station, perhaps help you enjoy a space walk. We offer sub-orbital flights, zero gravity flights, weightless experiences and training opportunities. Basically we can tailor a space programme to fit your budget. Tearne’s prices range start from a zero gravity experience at US$10,000 to a trip to the International Space Station for US$35 million.
LIFESTYLE
LET’S PUT THAT money in context, for US$35 million you live in five-star luxury in the Maldives for 150 years. Actually, scrap that, you could buy your own island. So what sort of person decides to spend the GDP of a small country on space trip? People like the soprano singer Sarah Brightman. She has paid her fee “in full” and in September she blasts off from Kazakhstan in a Soyuz rocket with three professional astronauts for a 10-day holiday at the International Space Station. The multi-millionaire says she has been obsessed by space since she saw Neil Armstrong take that giant step for mankind in 1969 when she was eight. She buys expensive space memorabilia (such as a notebook that once belonged to astronaut Buzz Aldrin), she collects Soviet space mission posters and in 1978 she sang a pop song called Starship Trooper. – At the moment I’m learning what cosmonauts have to learn, she says of her 16-hour-a-day training schedule in Russia. “And at the end of every week I’m tested in front

of a specialist panel. It’s very scary, I’ve not been tested on anything since I was a child.” Even scarier are the physical demands of that training – zero-gravity flights, pressure chambers, Soyuz simulators, space suits and, erm, singing. After eight days of acclimatisation Brightman will perform in space. At the time of going to press, the details of her performance had not been released, but she expects to be accompanied by either an orchestra or choir on Earth, perhaps even another singer for duet. BUT SURELY US$35 MILLION IS A LOT OF MONEY TO SPEND ON A 10-DAY HOLIDAY?
– A lot of people in their fifties and sixties who have saved some money, want to do something they wouldn’t have done earlier in their lives, they make decisions, Brightman says. – This was my decision to do this. Yes, it’s just 10 days but it brings me huge happiness. Of course she’s not the only space tourist to reach for the stars. The last client of Space Adventures was billionaire Guy Laliberté, the former street performer who created Cirque du Soleil. He used his orbital trip to promote a campaign to provide clean water to the world’s poor while “being very, very careful about not breaking anything”. – I’m an artist not a scientist, he said during in-orbit ‘shows’ with live contributions from U2, Shakira and Peter Gabriel. – When I joined Expedition 21, I knew there would be an artistic component to my mission.

ry and presented videos to highlight the plight of the underprivileged. Laliberté described the landing as the ride of a lifetime. – The moment you eject is the moment you realise there is not going back, he said. – Going down you go through blue layers, you start to see sparks for the first time, then colours. It’s scary. Dennis Tito was the first private citizen to enjoy Space Adventures’ extraordinary services in 2001 and since there have been five other space tourists including Anousheh Ansari, the first woman to pay for a trip. Ansari immigrated to America from Iran as a teenager unable to speak English, but went on to make a fortune in technologies. She said her space trip was to prove that “there is no limit to what young people can achieve” and “enjoy the final frontier”. Each billionaire space explorer has had an agenda. Computer games billionaire Richard Garriott wanted to follow in the footsteps of his father Owen who completed two missions for NASA while software designer and self-confessed space geek Charles Simonyi has made two trips to the International Space Station to inspire children’s interest in science. He did a pretty good job. While at the station he answered online questions from youngsters offering fascinating insight into the experience. How he sleeps (“in a sleeping bag any position I like, it’s weightless and I dream less”); how difficult it is to eat juicy oranges (“apples and bananas are cleaner”); what it’s like to re-enter the Earth’s orbit (“like skiing on a slalom course, then being rear-ended by a car”) and how annoying weightlessness can be (“you need reverse tape all the time to keep things stuck down”).

AND THIS IS all very well and good, but what about mere mortals who don’t necessarily have a spare US$35 million to spend on an out-of-world experience? Well, you could start with a zero gravity experience. – You are flown up in what resembles a cargo plane, a 727 with all the fittings stripped out and padding installed, says Tearne. – It reaches an attitude of 24,000 feet at a 45-degree angle, tips at 34,000 feet and then performs about eight to 12 parabolas or rolls creating zero gravity inside. The experience is like a giant rollercoaster. – During these parabolas you experience weightlessness for about 30 seconds each time. It may not sound a lot, but it gives you time to fly. Once you have mastered the art of zero gravity, you could try space walking. At Star City – where astronaut Yuri Gagarin was trained – is a giant neutral buoyancy container known as a hydrolab, a huge water tank that has been customised with a full-scale model of the International Space Station. Underwater is the closest you can get to the weightless of space.
“GOING DOWN YOU GO THROUGH BLUE LAYERS, YOU START TO SEE SPARKS FOR THE FIRST TIME, THEN COLOURS. IT’S SCARY.”
BUT WHERE CAN Space Adventures go next? The answer’s obvious, says Tearne. The Moon. – We are looking at upgrading our Soyuz space flights to basically take them round the Moon in a figure of eight loop,” she says.

V E N T H E WO R L D ’ S greatest artists have to start somewhere. For Vincent Van Gogh it was in a gloomy house in a grimy mining district known as the Borinage close to the Belgian city of Mons. At the age of 27, Van Gogh was not a natural artistic talent. He had to work at his art and that meant obsessively repeating drawing exercises from study books, poring over volumes of anatomy or perspective and copying prints by his favourite artists. “It was here that Van Gogh the artist was born,” says museums director Xaxier Roland gesturing to a renovated brick house in the Belgian village of Cuesmes. “After losing his job as an evangelist preacher he was struggling with depression, loneliness and poverty. But we know from his letters that it was here that he became reinvigorated by art and by drawing and painting the lives of people in the Borinage. His brother would send him prints to copy and books to learn drawing exercises.” Sketching the house with its crooked walls, wooden shutters and square workers windows is Belgian artist Wilfred Van Wijnsbergh. “It’s beautiful place, but melancholic, no?” he says. Indeed. But nothing like the melancholia Van Gogh witnessed in the Borinage. For him this was a place of gaunt pit ponies, grim-faced labourers, coal-carrying

women, exhausted miners and soot-soaked shack homes. The images he captured – some bad, some wonderful all intriguing – are now the focus of a block-buster exhibition ‘Van Gogh In The Borinage’ at Le Musée des Beauxarts in Mons. There’s not a starry night or sunflower in sight. ”This exhibition is more about what inspired Van Gogh from his early days not about the development of his technique as a painter,” says curator Sjraar Van Heugten. But Belgium was vital to Van Gogh. The motifs that he explored here would haunt his work until his death. Take his Borinage pencil drawing of a field reaper, for example. The sketch is on show at the BA M exhibition next to a masterful interpretation of the same subject created nine years later when Van Gogh was recovering from a nervous breakdown in France. Just months later, at the age of 37, Van Gogh would be dead, a victim of self-inflicted gun shot wounds. letter sent to his brother a decade earlier from Belgium is also featured in the exhibition. “I’m a man of passions,” writes Van Gogh, “capable of and liable to do rather foolish things for which I sometimes feel rather sorry.” This year marks the 125th anniversary of Van Gogh’s tragic death and both the BA M exhibition and restored

But this summer all roads lead to Mons if only for one good reason. “In July [2015] we’ll install 8,000 specially cultivated Van Gogh sunflowers in the shape of a 2,000 sqm maze for people to enjoy over here,” says Mons 2015’s Johan Vreys gesturing across the glorious cobbled Grand Place central square of Mons. Nearby from the elevated gardens of Mons in front of 87 metres of gloriously restored 17th century Belfry, it’s possible to imagine Van Gogh sketching his own interpretations of the city’s famous red roofs and crooked cobbled streets. EmKo’s restaurant JER EV E has already received rave reviews from the locals, and now they are putting the finishing touches on A.I.R. an acronym for Artist Indepen-
an amazing market filled with unique natural products and groceries, as well as a vegan café open for breakfast and lunch seven days a week. The bright, airy space is the perfect place to start your morning with one of their cold-pressed juices or smoothies, or a daily (by donation) yoga class. If you are feeling more carnivorous (or more Parisian) you’re only a block away from Le Rendez-vous, where you can enjoy a refreshing crafted summer cocktail or one of the amazing dishes off their new menu, including everything from a delicious French cheese and charcuterie platter to fresh beef sashimi. 221 Datura St #105, West Palm Beach, FL 33401 If you are looking for some eye candy, West Palm Beach is also home to many amazing art galleries and museums. There are over 200 arts and cultural organization throughout Palm Beach County, providing over 42,000 offerings a year. In fact, in March 2015, the Kennedy Center’s National Committee for the Performing Arts bestowed their biannual NCPA award for arts advocacy to the President and CEO of the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County, Rena Blades (More on this in our forthcoming Lake Worth/Delray round up). Although the galleries and collections on the island have garnered attention for years, it is clear the art scene across the bridge is thriving, and should not to be ignored. The Paul Fisher Gallery (33 Flamingo Dr, West Palm Beach, FL 33401) features the works of both local and internationally acclaimed artists, including Dale Chihuly. Serge Strosberg, and Edwina Sandys. Now with a second 5,000 square foot location at 218 Clematis Street, Paul Fisher has earned his accolades as one of South Florida’s pioneer gallerists. When evening sets downtown, the lazy pace if its daytime amblers is replaced with the neon glows of nightclub signs and a muddled mixture of music and raucous conversation. Clematis Street is lined with dozens of bars and restaurants that are sure to satiate all your imbibing needs. If crafted cocktails are your poison, head on over to The Alchemist Gastropub (223 Clematis St, West Palm Beach, FL 33401) and see Keith at the bar for an authentic Old Fashioned, try it smoked or with different bitters, or stirred with a stick of bacon to add some savory sweetness. The Alchemist’s vintage vibe will make it easy to forget that there’s a Starbucks across the street. Speaking of coffee, just walk a few blocks west on Clematis and you can buy yourself a second wind at Subculture Coffee (509 Clematis St, West Palm Beach, FL 33401). Subculture roasts and serves coffee in-house from 7am to midnight alongside fresh pastries, sandwiches and juices. They also serve beer and wine for the non-coffee drinkers. Right next door you can grab a bite at Hullabaloo, which features wood-fire oven pizza (among other things) and one of my favorite brunch menus on the block (I recommend the oven roasted double yolk farm fresh egg and a bottomless mimosa). These are just a few of the places that should inspire you to leave the island, and are mere minutes away from Palm Beach. hotel in the world to the magic of reindeer sledding, the winter wilderness of northern Sweden is a magical experience. At Sweden’s Kiruna Airport the temperature is minus-18ºC. Inside the famous Icehotel nearby at Jukkasjärvi it is a cheerful minus-5C. But in the hotel’s bar, the wedding party atmosphere is warming up. Fast. – My niece Claire is marrying Lee in a couple of hours, says guest David Murrow. – They decided to do something different rather than hold the wedding in the UK and, well, this is certainly different. There is no word on the bride’s dress, but when you’re 200km north of the Arctic Circle, thermal boots, insulated jackets and furry hats are certainly de rigueur for guests. – We have about 150 weddings a year at the Icehotel’s church, says representative Beatrice Karlsson. – But the main reasons more than 40 000 visitors come here during the winter is for the tranquillity of Europe’s last wilderness all around us; the chance to stay in a unique work of art and the opportunity to experience activities such as dog-sledding, snowmobiling and moose safaris. “65 ROOMS INCLUDING 15 ‘ART SUITES’ EACH INDIVIDUALLY CARVED BY ARTISTS.” Every winter the 5 500-sqm hotel is built from scratch using 2 500 gargantuan ice-cubes chain-sawed from the frozen Torne River and 30 000 tonnes of snow and ice (or “snice”). – The hotel has a church, exhibition hall, lobby, bar and 65 rooms including 15 “art suites” each individually carved by artists from countries as varied as the Netherlands, Germany and Spain, explains guide Robert Siverhall. Their work is open to the public during the day and to walk from the carved “ice-belly of a whale” in one suite into a crowd of ice statues in another before finding yourself face-to-face with a frozen transparent ice dragon is a joyously eccentric experience. B U T W H AT ’ S I T like to stay overnight? “Surprisingly, it was not the cold that we found so strange,” says American Ken Gould, fresh from a trip across Russia on the Siberian Express. – It’s the unusual sensation of sleeping in so many layers of clothes in a giant thermal bag that I found unusual. Still, I’ve travelled to 92 countries and this is a great thing to say I’ve experienced. The hotel has become a magnet for curious travellers like Gould, but it is just one highlight of an extraordinary region. – There is a great contrast here between the mountains, the forests and endless empty countryside, says Mattias Mannberg of Kiruna’s Tourism Authority. – Kiruna Municipality is 19 500 square kilometres – half the size of the Netherlands – but just 23 000 people live here. The region, he says, has become a major draw for tourists from the UK , Germany and France and is increasingly popular with Chinese and Japanese travellers with a handful of direct flights from Tokyo recently introduced for the winter season.
the big appeal for Asian travellers? Simple. The fantastic swirls of colliding charged particles known as the Northern Lights – or aurora borealis – that illuminate this incredible Christmas card landscape like dancing ghosts. – From September to March they are a major attraction for most travellers, says Mannberg. – I took them for granted when I was young, but today when I see what they mean to tourists, I realise we are blessed.

Crunching across the packed snow of Kiruna town from the pretty 100-year-old wooden church to the boxy municipal hall with its art installation clock tower through a park with two-metre snow sculptures by Russian, Mexican and Spanish artists, you quickly appreciate how winter is frozen into the DNA of daily life. From November to April, metres-thick duvets of snow coat everything, daylight seems to last for minutes and countryside temperatures can plummet to minus-30ºC. Getting dressed in the morning involves insulated skipants and extra socks, collecting the shopping is easier with a sledge and plugging your car engine into the mains is essential if you want it warm enough to start the next morning. from town is the Sámi Siida Culture Centre, featuring a small museum, handicraft shop and a deliciously warm café. Here, over coffee, Sámi representative Lennart Pittja outlines the philosophy of VisitSápmi, an organisation funded by the Swedish State and European Union. – Sámi are one of the world’s indigenous peoples and Lapland is often promoted as our land, but the term has been misused for mass tourism, says Pittja.

– Sápmi is the true Sámi name for the region that extends across Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia and VisitSámpi was established as the tourism and information organisation to do this. At the heart of the organisation’s philosophy is a commitment to sustainable tourism that “gives back” to Sámi communities and the transferal of Sámi knowledge worldwide. That transfer of knowledge comes to life at the centre’s reindeer lodge. – We offer reindeer sled excursions into the wilderness, overnight stays in cabins and plenty of story telling around the fire, smiles Sámi reindeer herder Anders Kärrstedt, strolling into the paddock. – We also have a circuit cut into the snow for highspeed “Formula 1” sledding, but all our young “Ferrari” reindeer are out with tourists at the moment, he laughs Not to worry. Lennart Pittja reins up a more pedestrian 15-year-old “pensioner” reindeer, and demonstrates the 10kph art of trotting a sled gently through the forest snow. It’s a truly memorable sight.

ORE INSPIRING Kiruna town was built to serve what is now the biggest iron ore mine in the world. Run by the government-owned company Luossavaara Kiirunavaara Aktiebolag (LK A B ), it is a unique tourist attraction with 30 000 visitors every year. Why should people visit? – It’s an opportunity to go 540 metres underground to experience a mine that’s working 24/7, says LK A B ’s Ylva Sievertsson. – It’s the most modern mine in the world and a lot of mining technology was invented here. FAST TRACK TRAVEL Dog sleds are fun, reindeer sledges are enjoyable, but the thrill of powering up a snowmobile and racing off into the wilderness of northern Sweden is joyous. As the sun sets, the snow glows, trees become shadows and the wind whips your visor, the world is reduced to a 40kph slither and a headlight-illuminated snow track. Wonderful. ■

A N A - L I S T S TA R for nearly 40 years, Liam Neeson has a refreshing attitude to his status. – Sometimes I feel like I’ve just started out, he laughs, chatting in a suite at Mandarin Oriental. – I know I’ve been around for donkeys but I still get that rush, that fear, that energy I did when I was in my thirties. Maybe it’s because the 62 year-old’s astonishing career has assumed distinct and very different chapters. An enduringly popular name on the big screen, the handsome Irish man, smart in a white shirt and dark jeans, made his name with leading work in Under Suspicion, Darkman and Woody Allen’s Husband and Wives before an Oscar nomination for Schindler’s List launched him into megastardom. But after the brilliance of historical epics, Michael Collins, Gangs of New York and Kinsey, Neeson moved into his finest hour with the Taken franchise, a surprise monster hit which heralded his transition into an action star. Since then, he’s taken on a slew of action roles including The Grey, Non-Stop, Unbroken, A Walk Among The Tombstones and new thriller, Run All Night which sees the actor play an ageing hitman who must take on his boss (Ed Harris) before his son is murdered for a heist gone wrong. Delighted when named Hollywood top action star by Tinseltown experts, placing him over Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Cruise and Sylvester Stallone, Neeson has of course, retained his down to earth swagger and charm. Most likely the secret to his success. Sadly, his private life has been rocked by tragedy. Natasha Richardson, his wife and mother of his sons, Michael (19) and Daniel (18), passed away in a skiing accident in 2009 and the actor has admitted his struggles with coping with the loss. But in a frank, honest chat, he talks freely about his sons flying the nest for college, his hopes and dreams for

DEPARTURE FROM THE

THE SCRIPT? WAS THIS A PROJECT YOU WANTED TO DIVE
YOU KNOW I HAVE TO SAY, I SAW YOUR FILM THIRD PER-

SON, AND IT’S JUST A BEAUTIFUL RESERVED ADVENTURE IN
– I suppose so. Like you said, it’s certainly a departure from the action films I’ve been getting cast for the last few years. I get to play kind of a tortured writer – who was a Pulitzer Prize winner early in his career, and now we find him with writers block, feeling a lot of self-doubt, and trying to come to terms with an enormous emotional turmoil.
TO THE MIND. IT ALSO FELT LIKE A NICE DEPARTURE FROM YOUR RECENT ACTION BLOCKBUSTERS.
– It certainly is a departure, Roxanna. I was very attracted to the script, and I’m very big fan of Paul Haggis, [the writer and director of Third Person], from his movie Crash. And who’s going to turn down Olivia Wilde as your love? Kim Basinger as your wife? WHAT WAS YOUR INITIAL REACTION WHEN YOU RECEIVED

– Well it was fun seeing her naked. (Both laugh) WHICH BRINGS ME TO MY NEXT QUESTION. I REMEMBER WHEN THE INTERNET WAS ALL A BUZZ ABOUT A PHOTO OF HER T YING YOUR SHOE .
– Right. Yeah, I got a lot of kudos points for that. WELL YOU KNOW THINGS LIKE THIS LET PEOPLE SEE YOU IN A DIFFERENT LIGHT.
– Yeah. I mean it’s great to be offered roles like this. At my age, being asked to be Olivia Wilde’s lover…Hello? It’s not too shabby. RIGHT. I MEAN SHE LOOKS INCREDIBLE IN THIS FILM. THE TWO OF YOU LOOK GREAT ON SCREEN.
– Yeah, she looks great, and she’s terrific in the film, too, real standout performance. DO YOU DO ANY WRITING OF YOUR OWN?
CAPTIVATING THRILL- RIDE .
– You know, I’ve tried and had a couple journals, but I’m just not a writer. Which is why I have so much respect for writers and what they do. Anyone who can face a blank page and fill it out in order to pay their bills is a hero to me. I think writers are just extraordinary c reatures.

“ANYONE WHO CAN FACE A BLANK PAGE AND FILL IT OUT IN ORDER TO PAY THEIR BILLS IS A HERO TO ME.” in the film. I’ve read about ten of them now, and I just love this character. He’s a kind of very broken, troubled man, trying to redeem himself. He was a successful cop with the NYPD until a tragic event occurs…I don’t want to spoil it for your audience. I APPRECIATE THAT. SO MATT SCUDDER IS A RECOVERING ALCOHOLIC AND EX- COP, WHAT WAS THE RESEARCH LIKE FOR THIS? DID YOU SPEND ANY TIME IN REHAB PROGR AMS, OR SHADOW ANY POLICEMEN?
– I have a couple of pals in the NYPD, and talked to them at great length. I did go to quite a few AA meetings in Los Angeles and New York, and I was never less than moved by the courage of some of these men and women who stand up and tell their life stories. These are people you’d pass in the street and not give them the time of day, but standing there, explaining how a drink affected their lives and families and such...I went to about twelve or thirteen of them and I just found them all incredibly moving. My character is very much from that world. The AA Organization is very strong for him. He needs that; he needs it to survive. I LOVE YOU IN IT, I REALLY DID. AND I TRULY FELT THAT THERE WAS A COMMITMENT THERE TO THAT.
– Thanks, Roxy. I ALSO REALLY LOVED THE INTER ACTION BETWEEN YOUR CHAR ACTER, MATT, AND HIS UNOFFICIAL PARTNER, TJ. IT SEEMED LIKE THE TWO OF YOU HAD A LOT OF NATUR AL , ON SCREEN CHEMISTRY.
– Ah, good! Yeah he’s a lovely young boy to get to know and work with. There’s no sentiment with him. Our writer/director, Scott Frank, was very emphatic about not wanting any shred of sentiment in the relationship between he and I. That we speak to each other as adults. This makes the relationship that much more touching, I think. He’s a street kid. He’s tough, but very, very vulnerable. I THOUGHT THAT GAVE A REAL UNIQUE TOUCH.
– Yeah. I think so too. It’s the only real relationship in the film. Scudder doesn’t have a girlfriend... he doesn’t even have an ex-girlfriend. So this relationship between him and this young boy is a sign of hope for both of them. ■

not when we say the word classic in regards to film, one particular company comes to mind, and that company is Disney. Disney through new technologies has been at the forefront of transforming classic tales from age-old folklore to the silver screen for nearly a century. This year, Disney is bringing its most iconic film, Cinderella, back to theaters for a new generation of youthful eyes through this live action film. We got a chance to talk to Richard Madden (Rob Stark from Game of Thrones) about the responsibilities that come with portraying a Prince, Prince Charming, that is.

that jaunty-looking crown for nothing you know. It produces at least 700,000 pieces a year, enjoyed record sales in 2014, sponsors the world’s most prestigious sporting events and stirs horological passions like no other brand. You only have to log on to any Rolex discussion site and watch those forums crackle with serial number detail and auction result obsession. And the market for vintage Rolexes is thriving like never before. – These days I think people are only interested in buying classic items with longevity, David Silver of London’s Vintage Watch Company tells Lifestyle. – They don’t want a watch that is a whim, something that is out of fashion in six months. Silver’s company has been selling vintage Rolex for 20 years. Today the London store features more than 750 different pieces from between 1910 and 1970. So why is Rolex so popular? – It’s a top brand worldwide up there with the likes of Coca-Cola, says Silver. “It’s a watch brand through and through, not a jewellery company that makes watches.” Rolex is also a man’s watch or, more accurately, an Alpha male watch. Sean Connery’s James Bond wore a Submariner, Steve McQueen favoured an Explorer and Paul Newman sported a Daytona. Real life action heroes also tended to be followers of the crowned icon. The Rolex GMT Master II was originally created following requests from Pan Am Airways pilots. It’s no wonder the slogan, ‘Rolex watches are not styled. They are designed for purpose’ resonated so strongly with customers. And it’s not just macho iconography. Rolex is genuinely at the cutting edge of horological technology and its innovations are legendary. It patented the first waterproof wristwatch the Oyster in 1927 that was worn by Mercedes Gleitze when she became the first woman to swim across the English Channel a year later. Other Rolex inn-

ovations such as the screw-down crown, date on the dial or the self-winding movement have shaped the way we look at modern watches today. So, basically, it’s easy to see why there are so many websites sparkling with Rolex trivia. At the Vintage Watch Company, the store’s top selling models are Submariners, Explorers and Daytonas from the 1960s and 1970s. The company will even find a piece that matches your birth year or a special anniversary with costs starting from around US $3,000. – We want to appeal to a wide audience and not just the top end of the market, says Silver. And US $3,000? That’s not a bad price for a piece of luxurious brand history. At Sotheby’s in New York recently a Rolex stainless steel Oyster Cosmograph Daytona was sold for US $505,000 and at Christie’s an 18k pink gold signed Oyster Perpetual achieved US $321,885. Then there is another problem. Obviously you need to check the watch is in good working order. Rolex only guarantees that it will stock parts for specific models. with non-original parts. And it’s often impossible for non-specialists to tell the difference. – The best advice is to buy from a specialist where you have a guarantee, says Silver. – We offer a two-year guarantee while modern watches are sold with just one year. B AC K I N G U P H I S promise, Silver’s company maintains a workshop that specialises in the complicated business of Rolex repair. – If you are buying a watch from 1962, it will look like it did in 1962, he says. Silver sources his pieces from all over the world and he admits it’s becoming an increasingly challenging process. – When a new watch is sold it can be replaced the same day, but with individual pieces we don’t know when we will see them again. So, what does Silver regard as the modern Rolex icons of the future? – The Daytona, Explorer and Submariner will always be iconic due to their heritage and association with iconic actors such as McQueen, Connery or Newman, but with current Rolex pieces this is difficult to answer simply because too many watches are produced today. Matt Bowling the sales director of watchfinders.co.uk agrees. He believes that if you are buying a Rolex for investment purposes it’s best to splash out on larger-size
models such as the Submariner Date, the Sea Dweller or GMT-Master.
– These are the watches where there is the highest demand and hold their value best, he says. Bowling says he has seen a significant trend in the number of people moving away from buying new watches to pre-owned models. – They look like new, depreciate very slowly and cost less in the first place. Plus, more interestingly, new Rolex prices increased twice last year and that means as the retail price increases so does the watch value. auction house that sells vintage timepieces. Director of watches Paul Maudsley says the vast majority of queries he receives are for Rolex. – They are absolutely a good investment, he says. – A Rolex GMT-Master from 1960 would have been sold for US $6,000 a couple of years ago. In December we sold one for US $13,300. Perhaps, however, to spend a few thousand on a Rolex as an investment is missing the point of Rolex. Watches, after all, were designed to be worn and to appear in public. Listen to the wise words of Tim Bourne, the international co-head of watches for Christie’s in Hong Kong. – Watches have a functionality, they tell the time, but on a psychological level there is so much more going on, he tells Lifestyle. – Put on a special watch and you are going to feel special. ■ BONHAMS IS ANOTHER

It’s a big collection, and it’s a wonderful collection, because it’s an homage to the last collection of Oscar de la Renta, not just that he designed this whole last collection, but he designed, edited and attended this last collection. This was the end of his life, and he had more energy, more vigor, and more enthusiasm about that collection, I think, than with any other collection. I almost think he gave all of his energy to finish this collection into a masterpiece. It’s big, but it’s about the same size as we put out with every collection.

Absolutely. The dress cannot overwhelm the woman. You can tell the character of a woman by the dress that she has chosen. Some are more tailored, and some are more romantic. Some people have wonderful eccentricity and they accessorize themselves that way. The spirit of the woman and the spirit of the dress are combined when they meet each other…I think that’s what Oscar felt when he was designing them.

Well, I was mostly out of New York when it happened, when they first met, you know it’s a very touchy thing for me because it was almost towards the end of Oscar’s life. He was so gallant, and beautifully dressed, and Amal Alamuddin walks in the office… The way he worked with her, you would never have guessed Oscar was ill. He was marvelous. HE CERTAINLY WAS. NOW, SINCE WE ARE TALKING BRIDAL, A TREND THAT HAS KIND OF SPRUNG UP THE LAST FEW YEARS IS TO WEAR MULTIPLE DRESSES FOR A WEDDING.

“FASHION IS A TREND, STYLE LIVES WITHIN A PERSON.”
OSCAR DE LA RENTA
THEY SAY IT PERSONALLY EXPRESSES THE BRIDE...
You know, getting married is one of the most important times in your life, and sometimes one night is not enough to celebrate, especially if you have family coming from different parts of the country, or the world. You don’t want to just celebrate for one night; you want to make a weekend out of it, so you’re going to need a few dresses. Dresses that compliment her and says that she is the bride. She has to be the bride for the weekend, you know? ABSOLUTELY. NOW MANY OF THE GORGEOUS DRESSES YOU HAVE HERE ARE DONE BY HAND.
By machine and by hand, if they were done by hand alone it would have been at haute couture prices, which start at $20,000 or $30,000. What is wonderful
about Oscar de la Renta...you know, since I also worked with Oscar for ten years at the house of Balmain in Paris. Oscar was the haute couture designer for Balmain, and at the time it was a dead house, he really revived it. So for ten years we would go to Paris, and Oscar saw that the prices for haute couture were from $20,000 to $100,000. Minimum. So he brought people from India that could replicate that French hand-done style and do it by hand in India with a label that was much less expensive. And what we realized was that they could do exactly the same thing for 1/8th of the price as in France. So once we were done with our contract with Balmain, Oscar decided to take this technique with him back to the states to enlarge his own house. He created the only design house that did this, a ready-to-wear semi-couture.

I’m honored. Honored and so privileged because it is a legacy. He was one of a kind. I see a lot of these new designs and designers, and they are talented and great…but it’s not only about the design, it’s a lifestyle. It’s an understanding of the woman. It’s an understanding of beauty and elegance. You know, there’s more to this than designing clothes…there’s a whole life around it. ■

– Thanks! You know, if I speak out, I’m in the minority. I’m really lucky. I get sent the most incredible scripts and the most incredible roles. In my mind, I don’t think there should be a small amount of roles for women of a certain age, or women of color, or Asian actors and actresses – which doesn’t seem like there are many being used. I was very upset about the (New York Post’s) Page Six headline, because I’m not trying to take away roles. I want there to be more roles. More beautiful women. Jessica Lange, Sissy Spacek, Glenn Close... I’m just really supportive of the industry, because I’m an audience member before I’m an actor. I love going to the movies and seeing stories about everyone. ■
Jessica can be seen next in Guillermo del Toro’s “Crimson Peak” which shows in October and follows that up with Ridley Scotts “The Martian” debuting in November! Look for her in future roles in “The Huntsman”, and as Marilyn in “Blonde”. She is one in demand Lady.

A WORLD OF PURE IMAGINATION BY N I C O C A S S A N E T T I P H OTO DA N C E L L A
Unveiling the Mystery of EmKo
F O R A L M O S T T WO years, the air surrounding the three-story building on South Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach was reminiscent of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory: Its papered-up windows featured a rotation of visual images and text, changing from one month to the next. Brightly colored floral sculptures made from industrial objects randomly appeared overnight around the perimeter, and the abstract, manmade trees – with their sleek geometric branches – seemed to have grown from the pavement without reason. The stark white exterior of the venue (the former location of Ragtops Antique Motorcar Museum) offered no explanation other than the four black letters emblazoned on the buildings’ north façade: EmKo. Prior to its public debut, I was afforded the chance to visit EmKo and meet “the creative masterminds” behind the still very hush-hush project. I was skeptical at first, and moreover I was completely unsure of what I was about to see. But skepticism quickly turned to curiosity, sparking my excitement for the chance for the nostalgia of childlike wonder. So in true Roald Dahl fashion, I traded in my metaphorical “golden ticket” for a chance to go inside. Yet even after my visit I’ll admit I had trouble defining what EmKo really is, finally landing on a culinary and cultural multiplex. The ground floor of the 24,000 square foot main building houses what EmKo calls their Culinary Art Gallery. The space is comprised of four main venues: The coffee shop and organic juice bar Untitled (whose seating area

The modern, state-of-the-art kitchen is the new home of Nick Martinkovic, former executive chef of Blood & Sand and Death in the Afternoon, who is already demonstrating EmKo’s commitment to imagination on each plate. The inspiration for Jereve’s dishes range from traditional American to modern European. From the chef’s intricate re-imagination of Manhattan clam chowder (dubbed “market chowda”) that features a whole soft-shell crab atop pillows of gnocchi and clam broth, to the vivid colors and rich textures of the three-beet salad, the food at Jereve is as delicious as it is visually stunning. Hidden just behind the main building in a narrow alleyway decorated in graphic slogans like “Use Only What You Need” and “This is Modern Street Art,” is the B.A.B (or Back Alley Bakery). HEY THERE A M Y SCH U M ER For anyone who has encountered the female comedic power house that is Amy Schumer—perhaps during her rise to fame in NBC ’s Last Comic Standing, her roles in the HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm and Girls, or more recently in her Comedy Central sketch comedy series “Inside Amy Schumer” (now in it’s third season)— it is clear why Schumer is being lauded as one of America’s best comics. Schumer’s brand of comedy is unapologetic; it is brave and self-aware and contains equal parts irony and snarkiness. Born on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, and spending a decade in Hollywood has endowed Schumer with a take-no-prisoners attitude—and this sensibility has helped make her become a part of the latest string of women who are both writing and performing in Hollywood’s newest comedies. She is, all at once, provocative and hilariously wicked-minded, but also tackles contemporary issues head on—throwing matters of sexism, gender norms, and vanity-driven Hollywood into the spotlight. I came to L.A. to interview Schumer, as well as director Judd Apatow and her costar Bill Hadar, about their new film Trainwreck. The movie marks Amy Schumer’s big screen debut—both as star and writer. As I waited in the room, I was unsure what I was in for—if the Amy of both Trainwreck and “Inside Amy Schumer” was the same woman when the cameras stop rolling. When she entered the studio room she immediately kicked off her sandals and tucked one leg under the other and told me about her trip to Sweden. “I love Stockholm!” she said. “I won the talent contest at their Comedy Festival. Everything was in Swedish so I couldn’t figure out why I was going back out on stage when they announced the winner.”
my family we deal with it through comedy; we laugh at how horrible things can get, that was our coping mechanism—admitting your own insecurities and trauma—it makes people feel less alone, so I think after realizing that, you work from there… YOU’RE BEING COMPARED TO LENA DUNHAM…
that—I’ve never heard one person say, “I was offended by that.” And I’m not trying to—it’s just me broaching issues that people don’t like to talk about, and I think we should deal with this stuff, and give people this information. Yeah, it’s funny and a ridiculous scene, but if one kid sees it and thinks twice about raping a girl then it’s worth it…
I would love to be compared to her! She’s a genius, unapologetic, unafraid; she inspires me.

I really lucked out! First he’s a comedian, I relate well with comedians more than anyone else, his work is amazing, I have just loved his movies and they really affect me. I love movies that are funny but can also surprise you and make you emotional. Judd was so encouraging to me to in my writing. Its just good fodder. In your own sex life don’t funny ridiculous things happen? I have had sex with maybe two-dozen people, maybe five good/nice ones and everyone else was fucking weird! For me to spend time with someone I would have to take him seriously. Would he be funny? Ya! Would he be masculine? No! In my live show I tell myself men are intimidated by me. I’m so guarded. I don’t go to bars, I only meet the people I work with—like writers, comedians, crews—I want a boy that knows what to do. I’ve always been strangely fearless, and I’ve just always felt that way—almost childlike confidence.

I do feel a responsibility that I didn’t use to, but I look at it as an opportunity. I have good intentions and my heart is in the right place, but I try not to let it affect me too much because speaking my mind has served me well— it’s about getting a sense for what people can handle. The Friday Night Lights parody is a good example of

Not enough sex, not enough time. It’s more of a portrait of me 10 years ago. I’m always trying to humanize myself and other people. We’re all disgusting. No one is better than me. HEY THERE ing me their story. Then we had the discussion about where she was in her life and what obstacles she was willing to use. That was the starting point for the movie. WAS IT GREAT TO FILM IN NEW YORK CITY?
It was nice to be there. Being able to shut down streets in New York is every young directors dream! And visually it was nice to have something different to look at. YOU ONCE SAID THAT YOU WOULDN’T DIRECT A FILM YOU DIDN’T WRITE YOURSELF, WHAT CHANGED YOUR MIND?
Well, I have covered so many subjects— high school, college, young people having a baby, marriage, long-term marriage, diseases, near-death experiences, so you reach a moment that someone else has more to say, so, in this case, it would be more fun to try to help Amy reach and execute her own vision. A LOT OF YOUR FILMS CENTER AROUND FAMILIES. ARE YOUR KIDS FUNNY?
J U DD A PATOW After spending some time with Amy, it was clear that she is as genuine and bold in real life as she is on screen. Her ability to bring humor, humility and authenticity into controversial or emotionally charged situation was something Judd Apatow realized about Amy even before he met her, as he explained to me later that afternoon during our interview. WHAT DID YOU SEE IN HER THAT MADE
I like funny people; I don’t think that much about if they’re male or female. I’ve been lucky enough to connect with people like Lena Dunham, Kristen Wiig, and now Amy. I’m just a fan of hilarious people who have a story to tell –that’s all I think about! I just go Wow! Lena’s movie is so good I wonder what else she wants to write about. I would like to be a part of it, it’s like being a fan, just wanting to be a part of the process of someone I admire.
YOU THINK SHE COULD WRITE?
WORKING WITH AMY SCHUMER, WHO
- I really didn’t know Amy at all. I was in my car listening to Howard Stern, and she was on there talking about her relationships, but also these stories about her father who has Multiple Sclerosis and how hard it is to deal with his long time illness. But she was also incredibly funny and very warm as she talked about something that’s so difficult, and I thought Oh! This is a real artist! She has stories to tell. I just had an instinct she should make a movie about all this.

I THINK YOU CHAMPION THEM!
WHAT WAS IT LIKE FOR YOU AS THE DIRECTOR? DID YOU LET HER HAVE HER WAY WHEN IT CAME TO MAKING DECISIONS IN A LOT OF THE SCENES?
We were just in sync about this, there was never that much of a debate. Like this is how to feel in this moment, this is how I handle this moment. There is no way for me to say your character wouldn’t do that because it’s personal to her, so I was really trying to work with what felt truthful. And as far as the screenwriting, she hadn’t written a movie before. We worked on one project before this one and after she finished the rough draft, I said I think you should write something more personal for your first movie. I was thinking of Kristen Wiig, what she did with Bridesmaids, and the fact that I like that someone is tellLIFESTYLE

My kids are really funny. My daughter, Iris, is on the new T V show we’re doing for Netflix called, Love. We’re shooting that now and it’ll be out probably in the spring. And she has a funny recurring part in it. And Maude was on Girls this season. And hopefully they’ll decide if that’s something they want to do or not. My youngest one doesn’t even like comedies. I try to put one on and she get’s annoyed. She just wants to watch horror movies. Or the Kardashians. WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER GOOD COMEDY?
It needs to be, well, John Guare who wrote “The House Of Blue Leaves” was talking about playwriting and said, “writing plays is like putting someone in the corner and trying to get them out of it!” and I think that’s true. I’m not really into villains, I’m just not that imaginative, just everyday life situations, like just trying not to be a weirdo in your relationship, is enough to
HEY THERE make for a good movie! DO YOU LAUGH ABOUT SEX?
It’s my personal issues, why does everyone laugh about it? It’s so intimate it makes people uncomfortable. It’s so easy to do it wrong! (laughs) ROMANTIC COMEDY WITH A TWIST! AFTER WATCHING THE FILM, I THOUGHT TO MYSELF, “THIS COULD HAVE BEEN WRITTEN FOR A GUY.” COULD THE ROLES HAVE BEEN REVERSED?
I think so, but there’s an enormous amount of women who haven’t been shown this way in movies and television. Women who have obstacles with intimacy and are comfortable drinking, smoking pot, and having relationships that are insignificant because they are afraid of true connections and have things they need to heal from. And that is probably most people, male and female! Amy was
BI L L H A DER Judd Apatow wasn’t the only one who was a fan of Amy’s before the cameras started rolling on Trainwreck. I got the chance to sit down with Schumer’s co-star, former SNL star Bill Hader, to talk about what it was like working with Amy: BILL, HOW DID YOU DEVELOP THE CHEMISTRY WITH AMY IN THIS FILM?
It kind of happened naturally, I remember auditioning for her and being a fan, seeing her stand up shows and all, and I thought I
just comfortable talking about this. I can see now how you can look at it like that! But we didn’t think about it being reversible when we were making it. HOW DID DOING STANDUP COMEDY PREPARE YOU FOR BEING A DIRECTOR?
I did standup from 1985 to 1992, and as I got more writing work I just felt like that was what the universe was trying to tell me I was supposed to be doing. But when I was hanging out with Amy all the time working on the script, she was always coming back from some great standup concert she did. I started getting jealous of how much fun she was having. And then one day I said, ”When we get to New York I want to do a set. So send me ideas for jokes and I’ll write them.” So she and her sister, Kim, would email me premises for jokes. So everyday for a couple weeks they’d email me premises like; ”What if
blew it! I went home, remembered telling my wife “Well that’s not going to happen!” I didn’t hear anything for months and then Judd calls me and asked me to come to New York and do a read with Amy. That was a surprise to me! Amy and I went to dinner and Judd watched. Amy and I were like what’s up with that and Judd was kind of studying us, it was very awkward. TO SEE HOW HE WOULD DIRECT YOU?

I had boys instead of girls as kids?” And then I would try to write jokes based on those ideas. And then I went up to the Comedy Cellar when we got to New York and had a good set. Amy seemed annoyed that I did so well. (laughs) So that’s what I did every night while we were on set. We’d wrap and I’d head over and do a set. ARE YOU GOING TO CONTINUE DOING STAND UP?
I am, I am! We’re doing a Trainwreck tour in June. We’re going to play seven cities with Colin Quinn, Dave Atell, Vanessa Bayer, Mike Birbiglia, and Amy. I’m also doing stand up on The Tonight Show in July. So that’ll be the first time I’ve done standup on The Tonight Show. Getting back into it just woke up a part of my brain that was dormant, that was just funny. And it put me in a really good mood.
show them to people like Lena Dunham and ask “ Would you buy them as a couple?” Then I got the job! So many people that are in this film are stand up comedians at Comedy Cellar and they’re all Amy’s friends. I would watch her comedy show a lot. Wonderful, wonderful stand up at Comedy Cellar. Saturdays was our day off and we would just go and watch, it was so infectious. Anyone who has a speaking part is a comedian from Comedy Cellar.

Yes, you can cut a whole movie together with it. There was one where I had to go upstate to learn how to ride and drive a carriage and steal it! And I was afraid of horses and then they cut it! We shut down Central Park West for three nights in a row! When I finally saw the movie, it was like, “oh my god you cut the scene! You guys got rid of a whole scene…NO !” (laughs)
I really thought so, but when they brought out that fake knee they also brought in a real surgeon to show me how to do it. The surgeon actually played my assistant in this film. She’s Fearless. A fearless comedian, and an honest and wonderful actor, and a really great writer, and director. WORKING WITH HIM ON THIS PROJECT.
Comedy gets me very nervous about going too far one way and losing the audience. You need to keep it balanced, fun and funny, you know? Judd is so good at fusing real emotion into his work that people can relate to. He’s not afraid. It’s the way I always describe this movie: kind of like your typical romantic comedy with some actress like Ann Hathaway or Kate Hudson, and Amy’s character would have been her drunk crazy friend who goes home with a different guy every night… What Judd is so very good at is asking, “what about her?” What is she like when she goes home, is she lonely? What if she actually falls in love with someone, how would she deal with that and not treat them like arbitrary characters? They have real feelings, I want to know what’s going on with her and so he goes with that! It’s so genuine and I don’t think anyone has done that in a while. LEBRON JAMES ADDS A LOT TO THIS FILM, DID YOU HAVE TO GIVE HIM ANY ADVICE ON ACTING?

I don’t know! That’s an interesting question, I don’t know. I just see guys falling all over her! (laughs) SO…WOMEN IN COMEDY, DO YOU THINK THEY’RE TAKING THE PLACE OF MEN?
Women have always been funny. HOW FEARLESS ARE YOU WHEN IT COMES TO COMEDY?
I don’t know, I’m a poor judge of that. I just like certain things and you kind of go for it and, I mean, when you’re working with Judd you can be vulnerable, try things, “Oh, ok that didn’t work, ok fine let’s go back.” It’s all about trying things, having your confidence. I learned that at

This has to happen each time they re-board the ship. The counts are never correct, and sometimes passengers are left behind.” As alarming as it was, the answer didn’t surprise him – but it did inspire him. After returning home, Zagami began intensely studying the cruise industry, and – using his background in electronics and security training – took the first steps into turning the

idle conversation with the cruise captain into a multimillion-dollar business. He hired a software developer and started to design a marine access control system. Six months later, Security Identification Systems Corporation (aka SISCO) was born and launched their first product: The A- PASS. Today A- PASS is being used on one hundred fifty four ships and counting, including all major cruise carriers (Carnival, Princess, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Costa, Iberia, Aida). In 1999 the company developed a sister product for large commercial enterprises called Fast-Pass – an electronic system that creates an electronic log and pass for a person entering a building in mere seconds. As the demand for these kinds of products and services increased in the commercial market, the company quickly began redesigning the Fast-Pass product to adapt to the needs of hospitals, schools, and many other businesses.

and commercial industries caught on to the control, speed and accountability offered by the A-Pass and Fast-Pass, SISCO continued to develop new and innovative safety and security products for businesses that require the accountability and credentialing of people entering or exiting vessels, buildings, or job sites. In 2005 SISCO rolled out the first electronic mustering system aboard Princess Cruise Ships. The system allows ships management and the Coast Guard to account for all passengers and crew during a required safety drill before leaving the port – proving to be a major improvement over conventional methods of passenger and crew accountability. Today, SISCO provides security technologies for over 85% of cruise ships worldwide. The company has also begun focusing on the development of mobile solutions in order to meet the high demand of mobile computing and wireless technology. They have already secured partAS BOTH THE MARINE

SISCO continues to thrive, adhering to their original objective to help ensure that our schools, hospitals and businesses are safe and secure environments, allowing us to continue our daily lives with piece of mind that we and our loved ones are safe and secure. â–

My Dear Readers, beThis season flew by so quickly it’s hard to be lieve we are already printing our third issue. With the amazing response we’ve received worldwide for the debut of LIFE|STYLE: Palm Beach International Luxury Magazine, I wondered how we would be able to top that issue. However, the past few months have been a whirlwind of amazing celebrity interviews and elaborate parties, as well as dozens of sporting and charity events, so I think you will find there is something in this issue for everyone! Having the TV show “Palm Beach Rox” for 12 years has afforded me the opportunity to host and cover innumerable red carpet events all over the U.S., and exclusive interviews with world-renown actors, musicians, chefs and entrepreneurs. And now as the International publisher of LIFE|STYLE Palm Beach, I’m ready to bring both worlds together to offer even more luxury lifestyle content to our readers—both in our magazine and through our online movie gallery. All these great videos can be found in the magazine tab on Roxworld.tv, as well as our impressive archive of interactive features. In addition to the array of interviews, style guides and events I’ve covered in this issue, I want to bring your attention to my very engaging interview with Jessica Chastain in which she speaks about some of the hurdles women have in our industry. I was so impressed with her off-camera role in women’s advocacy, that it inspired me to break ground on LIFE| STYLE WOMEN: Palm Beach International Magazine— a project dedicated to spotlight women around the world—from business moguls to MD’s—who are proving the power of female prowess. Our team looks forward to bringing you this and so much more. As always, thanks for reading! Roxanna “Rox” Cella rox@lifestylepublishing.org RoxWorld.tv – Where Celebrities Come To Shopp
