London’s hospitals have always been an integral part of the community, but the care they provide, as well the incredible frontline workers, are appreciated in new and important ways since the coronavirus pandemic. The public has a chance to say thank you and support the hospitals in the latest Dream Lottery.

Originally set to launch on April 2, the spring lottery was postponed a couple of months due to the pandemic and now has been re-imagined. While patrons won’t get the chance to visit the two dream homes – one in Port Stanley and the other in London – organizers have planned a virtual look at the homes that will be just as fun, offering people the chance to see the houses from the comfort of their couches. They can start dreaming.

Virtual tours, photos, aerial videos and floor plans provide looks at the stunning dream homes from every angle. “It’s really exciting to find a way to make it work. It’s a nice time with the pandemic dominating the news, to have something a little bit distracting,” says Maureen Meehan, the director of marketing and communications for the London Health Sciences Foundation. “It does take quite a few people behind the scenes to pull this together. Anything we can do to support the hospital, we’re happy to participate.”

The Port Stanley dream home, which also comes with $500,000 cash, is a 1,660-square foot bungalow in the Kokomo Beach Club community. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a double car garage. “This is a comfortable, flexible space. It’s our most popular floor plan that we offer. It’s one people really seem to have fallen in love with,” says Sue Wastell, of Wastell Homes.

“The beachfront area is brand new and it’s a blue flag beach, which is very appealing for people as well.”

Wastell and her colleague Allyson Switzer designed this dream home. “I think the exterior really showcases the whole coastal feel, which was very important to us when we designed this community.”

She says all the interior finishes chosen provide a Tommy Bahama look. “We have flamingo wallpaper in the main bathroom, which is so beautiful, accented with gold and white finishes. The kitchen is so unique. There’s built-in cabinetry in a turquoise colour with gold accents. It’s really following through with the whole coastal look,” she says. “People are appreciating the fact that it’s not your typical house.”

Kokomo is a five-minute walk to the beach and all it has to offer. “We really fell in love with Port Stanley when we looked at purchasing this property. The beachfront area is brand new and it’s a blue flag beach, which is very appealing for people as well,” Wastell says.

The Reis Design Build home at 3536 Grand Oak Crossing is a fresh take on stately and traditional architecture, says designer Angela Bobanovic. “The Grand Oak Dream Home was designed to fuse sophistication, class and was carefully crafted to accommodate today’s busy lifestyles.”

The 4,320-square foot home, with four plus one bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms, exhibits the elegance of hotel chic design. “The luxury finishes include a modern chef’s dream kitchen, a master retreat and fully integrated smart home automation. A children’s playhouse surprise is in the lower level,” Bobanovic says. She describes it as “beautifully designed, exceptionally built.”

Accents Home Furniture supplied furniture for both of the dream homes. This will enhance the virtual tour experience and give viewers a great sense of each of the homes livability features.

Organizers say this lottery has more prizes than ever before. Dream Lottery tickets will be on sale until September 3, but they often sell out before the closing date. Tickets are two for $50, six for $100, 16 for $250 and 35 for $500. The dream home winner will be announced September 17.
