Just a few weeks ago, I traveled to rural eastern Uganda. As we made our way across the dusty dirt roads, I had an overwhelming sense of gratitude for all of the people that make it possible to do this life-giving work. People like you. And although we say it often, we probably don’t say it

our world’s most vulnerable people. Though you don’t think of it this way, because of your support, you actually install the hand pump on a community’s new well. You teach health lessons to a mother with two young children. In an effort to show you just how much of an impact you are making, we are launching a new website this summer.

“Before Lifewater’s training, I used a pit as a latrine. It smelled bad and did not provide safety and privacy. After the training in our community, no one defecated in the open anymore. What a powerful approach this is. At present you can see improved latrines not only at my home but also at most homes. We are striving to make our homes healthy.” Your gifts helped Remate leave her old latrine and learn how to construct this new safe and dignifying latrine.

WHAT MAKES A HEALTHY HOME? THESE FIVE ELEMENTS: 1. A CLEAN COMPOUND
Keeping the household environment clear of trash and feces discourages germs, keeps people safer, and helps people take more pride in their home.
2. SAFE WATER USE AND STORAGE Clean water in dirty containers becomes dirty water. Families learn to keep water safe from collection to consumption.
3. SAFE AND DIGNIFYING LATRINE
Building and using a simple latrine separates people from poop, which drastically decreases water-borne diseases. It also provides safety and dignity.
4. HANDWASHING
Washing hands with soap stops the spread of disease. People build simple handwashing devices that save water‌and lives.
5. DRYING RACK
Washing dishes and drying them in the sun, away from animals, helps stop the spread of harmful pathogens.

put these in place in order to combat water-related diseases and make their family healthy. They are things every household can do, and it builds confidence in families that they are helping themselves. When a household demonstrates all these elements, it is awarded a Healthy Home Certificate.
These changes would not be possible without you and there are more homes becoming healthy every day. Thank you for giving generously so that children can be healthy and villages can thrive.

Wheels4Water Rides Again Cycling teams rode all over the world for safe water in Kaliro, Uganda and surpassed their goal of serving 1,000 people.
For the third year in a row, Wheels4Water teams hit the road on their bicycles to raise funds and awareness to combat the world’s water and sanitation crisis.
As Brian described it, “In these communities, the change was unbelievable for people to have access to clean water and sanitation.” Seeing the vulnerable children and families that their efforts have impacted through the gift of safe water have inspired them to
