SHATAKSHI KAUSHAL - NEWSPAPER EDITOR In 2016, I was handed the control of U,I & ET, the bimonthly newspaper at UIET, PU, Chandigarh. Being the editor of the U, I & ET this year was an extraordinary undergo. My editorial team was a powerhouse. From collecting different achievements of students to visiting teachers for interviews, the newspaper has been an incredible learning experience. The newspaper articles helped in bringing the students into spotlight for their outstanding performances, joint ventures, start-ups and academics. We have written about the technical and cultural fests, placements, college clubs, NBA Accreditation and other upcoming events in the city. The newspaper was a great step ahead for improvement. I have learnt a lot while working on the articles and it also gave me a sneak-peak into the world of writing. I thoroughly enjoy it and hope to take it to a totally new level.

eing the part of a community of like minds and interests fuels individuals' knowledge, skills and the urge to push themselves further. Realising this fact and applying it to a very popular field of art, MagBoard brings forth a photography initiative- IMAGEN.

Presented as a photography society, IMAGEN aims to bring together people who enjoy their happy place behind the lens. Not just this, but to build a community where each photographer- whether an amateur working his way around the dreaded manual mode, one whose sidekick is a high end DLSR camera or one who just clicks away with their handy phone camera- can grow, learn and contribute at their end. IMAGEN understands that calibre and finesse in photography doesn't lie in the equipment being used but in the eye and perspective of the person be-

hind it. And so, no, you don't need a DSLR to be a photographer. Or for that matter- a member of this society!

6

IMAGEN WINNERS UIET PHOTGRAPHY CLUB IMAGEN aims to organise events such as photo walks, discussion sessions and expert talks. It will also be conducting competitions with exciting prizes to be won by the winners. But most importantly, it will provide photography enthusiasts their very own group of fellow shutter bugs for all things photography! We started the journey with a small step organising an online photography competition, the winners of which are featured in this magazine. We hope you enjoy the works of the talented photographers from this city. MagBoard and IMAGEN urge all enthusiasts from Panjab University to come forward and be a part of this initiative sharing their passion for the art of photography.

Refresh Akanksha Dhar

I

-ECE, 1st year

’ve shut the door on Yesterday, And now I throw the key away To seek another room, Start a fresh new year with all vigor.

Pictures, which exhibit memories and zoom Pick yourself up, and be quicker Get involved, mix it up, and join a club or two Osmium, MagBoard, IEEE, just to name a few Fueling our bodies at canteen and mess dining hall Where food is...Okay! But there are options for all. Although you might miss your old life someday But all the friends and teachers that I've known Cannot be replaced in any way Sure, new experiences will come But will these outshine the old ones?

The curiosity keeps you going for an extra mile Release some tension and relax for a while It seems like just yesterday you were brand new And now, there are so many things you can do New doors open new experiences and opportunities What it’s like to unfold your destiny

To take a step ahead for a ride of astounding glee When you’ll learn what it is to truly be free Get some rest, for as long as you can Handling four assignments at a time Oh yes! You’ll soon be superman So wear every hoodie and cry every May Cherish every moment you can remember the next day Life goes on, with time, they say But now all I want is life to be as it is. Nothing more to ask for, I prayed.

ause Take a break from your life A break to cherish the little things Little things that make your life Look larger than life itself and king-size Stand still, notice the stillness The blood flowing in your body The blinking of eyes The tick tock of the clock The breeze gently making its presence felt Take time Time to enrich lives By the tiny -tiny beauties of life Often ignored But the presence be felt strongly

When they vanish No blood flowing No movement No audibility No feeling

Intimidating Isn't it? But the joy Which we deprive of ourselves Is far, far more intimidating.

If Tomorrow Comes Shatakshi Kaushal

I

-Cse, 2nd year

f tomorrow comes I promise to stand by your side Always hold your hand Always be in your sight

If tomorrow comes I promise to fight for you Lay down my life For my love is more than true If tomorrow comes I promise to support you Whatever may come But never leave you.

If tomorrow comes I promise to make you dazzle Wipe your tears Making your skies look more hazel If tomorrow comes I promise to return back Either wearing the flag Or inside it, wrapped.

ound something old Unintended, by chance Lost with the wave of time Now Goes to and fro in my mind, materialistic but original Pretended but not fake, Risks in exploration Unexhausted by the trials, Celebrating every uniqueness Getting over Each flaw I found my real self Unintended, by chance

hey are cowards who pretend to be brave They are white collared making black money There are abundant lacks in their empire....

They are making colossal plans with little heart They are making mistakes with impeccability They are happy making others perturbed.... They want best with worst efforts They are behaving bitterly sweet They are deeply shallow beings.... They are straight forwardly opposite They are doing wrong with their rights Their ethics are making ways for unethical corruption....

Recolour Death Sheena Singh

L

-Csc, 2nd year

et us change the colour of death For black is now tainted,

And rejoice in it's aftermath Glorify the new canvas painted.

Re-conceptualise the bright eternal light As my eyes are blinded, Both perception and reality fight

Before the soul and it's purpose are reunited. Let us smile over loss,

A realisation of being bounded I'll make sure no grave is covered in moss Whenever god leaves me confounded Let us fetch some colours from the rainbow For black is too clean,

Let us put up a good show By colouring the tears blue and then green

36

Recolour Death Sheena Singh

-Csc, 2nd year

Make a beautiful woman personify demise As the skull-faced man is too ugly

Let her be sugar and spice but not too nice For death shall be peaceful; snugly Let us recolour death Because black is too blatant, It's nothing;just loss of breath

Where life stands stagnant.

Fresher’s Manual Akanksha Dhar

-ECE, 1st year

H

ave you ever felt like college is overrated? Have you experienced the ‘’I don’t know what I want to do with my life’’ phase? Sound familiar, doesn’t it? Believe me, the ‘unknowns’ and ‘what ifs’ kept me up many nights. To sleep or not to sleep is an old-age dilemma. Before every weekend or long term holidays, you make sure to get your much wanted sleep. But, instead, you end up getting four hours of sleep every night. What happened to the much-needed rest? Well, here’s how you can actually get a grip of your life and work on your vague and baseless plans, in case you have any. It’s the manual you never asked for and din’t know you

39

needed. Make a schedule: Nothing will work until you have a clear head and know what you really want. Out of sight, out of mind would make things worse. Accept the fact that you’ve been drained out of knowledge and crave for more even though you know you will not need it. ‘’Why do I need to know the formula of Nash Equilibrium?’’. Trust me, no one does. Try and be as organized in terms of your assignments and projects as possible. (Fake laugh) Ask questions in class: Okay. Actually, just one question. Be that one kid in class that can ask professors random questions to get them off topic. OR. Be that geeky one who actually listens in class. Either way, you’ll be stuck up in typical case of ‘’The insider’s narrative of the outside world’’. Get a study group together: If you can make sure you book a study room in the library ahead of time, those fill up fast during semester exam. I could camp in from of the library just to reserve a seat. But usually, to get through these exams you need a group of nerdy/geeky people who always carry notes in their hands and make you study, like literally. No one is allowed to leave until you find the killer.

40

You-Me friends forever: Remember the kid you ignored during the first few days of college? The nerdy one? Yeah, that one. The one whose help you desperately need now (exam alert!). ‘’You can’t sit here!’’. Ah, the classic statement that some remembered all too well. Hence, acquaint yourself with the motto, ‘’Kyunki hare k friend, zaruri hota hai’’.

Go to class: ‘’Bhai, aaj toh chalte hai, attendance short hai’’. Class attendance is a mockery. It’s the perfect time to catch up on the more pressing matters in your life, like playing basketball, drinking coffee at CCD, knitting a scarf made entirely out of rubber bands, watching TV series and many more. Keeping your headphones aside, give yourself time to enlighten yourself with some real academic achievement. Better yet, as long as you don’t’ hear a word the professor says, you’re golden.

Taking a well deserved break after writing the title to your assignment: Not right away, though. First you have to freak out and stay up all night before these crazy exams you have next morning. Maybe have a panic attack too. Then, finally, when the storm breaks down, set an alarm for 10 minutes after your exams end and embrace sleep. (You are definitely doomed)

Lal Rang Junoon Ka– Osmimum Theatre Group Shreya Sood

-Biotech, 1st year

Lal rang junoon ka” A few lines that echo in my mind whenever I muse about Osmium –the theatre group of our college. Osmium- the theatre group of UIET Chandigarh started in 2008, by Manish Jindal which has really grown into something amazing now. The theatre group has performed many successful street plays, stage plays. Osmium productions, started this year only has major successful short films ‘Yearback’ and ‘Foil paper’ which were screened

42

at fourth Chandigarh film festival. On 9 September 2015, I gave audition for this group. The auditions were well organized. We were provided with a dialogue that we were supposed to express in nine different emotions followed by a personal interview by the seniors of the group. It was the most amazing audition I had experienced. A few days later, I received a message that changed my college life; a letter of acceptance. Soon enough we started to prepare for our first street play directed by our seniors Harshit sethi (IT 3rd year) and Aviral paliwal (CSE 3rd year). Rita devi (CSE 2nd year), not a name one hears everyday but it’s special for every osmate. She is one of the most beautiful person from the heart that I have met and extremely talented. It was a whole new experience for me as well as the team. Our seniors were very supportive and helpful towards us. We got to learn the human drum, different styles of clapping, true meaning of team work , to give our individual best and to explore our creativity. We had put a lot of efforts in practice for our street play titled ‘Aisa Hota Rahega’ which we were to perform at an upcoming fest at IIT Roorkee. Thomso’15- the official fest of IIT Roorkee. Our first performance received a good response from audience as well as the judges. The trip was very exciting, mesmerizing and something to remember. But this wasn’t just it, we also performed at Chandigarh university where we got third prize! Osmium is not just a bunch of random people coming together to perform. It is like family; a part of me, that I can

never tend to forget or neglect from my life. And with that I proudly say “ Hai Dil Mein Josh Iraadon Mein Dum Aaya Aaya OSMIUM”
