We go the extra Smile! How do you make things happen?

EDITOR'S NOTE How do you make things happen? We all plan and we say to ourselves annually (or even periodically), “This time will be different.” We set goals, even daydream how our desired outcomes would pan out, and hope for the best.

Jozen Curva E D IMany T O R -are I Ncalled - C H I E F but few are Jozen, but to her family (and some friends), she is the Jozen One. She is an aspiring copywriter, frustrated comedian and she loves the ocean.

Yet, we find ourselves facing the allure of another year and another set of resolutions. 2015 has been eventful for many of us, to say the least, but if there is one thing that helps our team stay focused is that we go the extra smile. In the midst of busyness, world news reports, we are dedicated to improve so that our guests can get the best from us. There’s nothing more fulfilling than to brighten someone’s day with our service. We celebrate the accomplishments with our fellow stakeholders in bringing the spirit of excellence in local and international events that have taken place, here in our very home. That’s just scratching the surface and the list goes on as you come to read the forthcoming pages. Looking back, our community has shown visitors and adventure seekers what this place is about. We are about delighting guests, sustainability, and integrating a social purpose in the things we do. In hindsight, sharing a vision and building relationships for a dynamic teamwork is what get things done, meaningfully. "The secret of change is not fighting the old but building the new." Here’s to new beginnings and your dreams coming true.

At your service,

INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEANUP PHILIPPINES 2015 START A SEA OF CHANGE

In last year's International Coastal Cleanup day, more than 107,000 volunteers from all parts of the country worked together to cover 28 provinces and ended up collecting more than 200,000 kilos of trash. The Top Province in 2014 with the most volunteers was Zambales, with more than 55,000 people and over 150 sites that were spread out from Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Olongapo City and Zambales Province combined. The organizers aim to double the numbers on September 19, 2015 and bring a sea of change across the archipelago. The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) that happens every 3rd Saturday of September is participated by half a million people across the globe, spanning in 91 countries with citizens from all walks of life. For 30 years, it has been aiming to turn the tide on trash and address solutions on this global threat. “History and experience has taught us that when people unite, great things happen,” said Jun Avecilla, International Commodore of International Yachting Fellowship of Rotarians and President of the Lighthouse Marina Resort. He added, “Let’s show the world what great things can happen from our home.”

IN THE SPOTLIGHT

"History and experience has taught us that when people unite, great things happen."

The PCGA recognizes the significant strides from Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation (LMRLF), and Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), organizers of the ICC Zambales. They promote responsible tourism and create programs that embrace the objectives of ICC. They’ve painstakingly worked throughout the years to provide proper education in order to change behaviors that cause pollution and help create a lifestyle that advocates a sustainable coastal environment. The organizers of ICC Zambales have partnered with the ICC Philippines as they share their best practices on how to expand and improve the campaign across the nation.

Months of preparation with pocket events leading to the big day were essential in educating the public about the current situation of the environment and ways they can help. These activities include the coordination meetings (Olongapo City, SBMA and Province of Zambales), contests (Noah’s Art - Trash to Art Contest and Environmental Songwriting Competition), SCUBASURERO Underwater and Coastal Cleanup, Recyclables Regatta in Subic Bay and ICC Olongapo Making Riverth Possible, and the recently concluded 2nd Environmental Summit. The Coral Restoration Project in cooperation with Sangkalikasan, to be held in Grande Island right after the coastal cleanup on September 19 will serve as a fitting climax to another milestone in the campaign. The emphasis on organized scientific data collection is what makes ICC unique. Volunteers were asked not only to pick up waste materials but also to record what they have collected in terms of kind, weight, and quantity of a specific trash in order to serve an accurate reference. The data collected may help in solving the ocean trash problem and create solutions for a healthier marine ecosystem. Zambales exemplifies the ripple effect of this wave for change that was seen in numbers that were doubled from the year before, but their goal doesn’t stop there. The organizers continue to work with different organizations and LGUs from across the province as they engage with the local community through environmental activities. The Lighthouse goes REEN

• GLORY MAY FAMOLERAS The Lighthouse has been a front runner in educating people on the problems our environment is facing but creating environmental events and spreading awareness are not enough. To rapidly respond to climate change and other environmental problems, we have made some innovative changes to make our business more sustainable and reduce our so called, "carbon footprint". These efforts are executed through the Go Green Program, which was launched simultaneously during the Earth Hour Celebration last March 2009 in the aim to increase the level of awareness. Our team is dedicated to sustainability and promoting responsible tourism through environmental projects. The beauty of our natural surroundings hopefully inspire others to take personal action and stop the exploitation of the planet. Everybody making a change adds up to something meaningful.

ELEGANCE FOR A YES

• SHANNEN CLAIRE CASINO

It is really a heartwarming feeling having the chance to plan a wedding proposal. But it can be quite a challenge if you are just given a maximum of 7 hours to come up with an idea and execute it. When I got a call from Eve, I knew it has to be perfect. Being the best friend of the soon-to-be bride, she was the perfect person to talk to about expectations. It came to my knowledge that the couple has been together for more than 6 years and the bride has a ‘thing’ for watching and sharing proposal videos on Facebook. From what I gathered, I knew what I had to do. I quickly called Details and Blooms to order a bouquet of red roses and floral centerpiece, asked our Purchasing to head to Cristina’s Flowershop for some petals and purchased some scented candles. The setup was also discussed to the staff and the “Will you marry me?” sign has been printed. All these have been plotted except for the ring. Thinking of a unique way to meet the expectations, I have come up with an idea of putting the ring inside of an ice. It melted just in time for the champagne and the bride thought there was dirt. To her surprise, it was an engagement ring and the groom kneeled. It was just a perfect moment. And most importantly, she said YES!

" ...I knew it had to be perfect."

A MoBrolution at the Lighthouse Marina Resort Last November 7, 2015, Subic Bay Witnessed a MoBrolution (a merging of Movember and Revolution on men’s health) at the 720 Bar of The Lighthouse Marina Resort with MovemberPI. The night was filled with fun activities and games in which the participants enjoyed. The much awaited quiz night hosted by its Philippine Chapter Founder, Sam Miguel was well received. Each participant contributed Php150 as an entry fee (all proceeds benefit the Movember campaign) and a total of six teams battled it out for first place and the delightful prizes that come with it. “It’s important to involve the community for a social purpose such as supporting causes that promote health and wellbeing,” stated by director of The Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation, Zedrik Avecilla. “The first Movember event in the Philippines started here at The Lighthouse back in 2010 with the help of Sam, a former Subicbased teacher.” At the start of Movember, guys register with a cleanshaven face. Headstarts are not allowed because it kills the spirit of the campaign. The participants, known as Mo Bros (supported by the women of their lives, also dubbed as “Mo Sistas”), have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their Mo. Their objective is to raise money in the process by effectively spreading awareness through prompting private and public conversations around the oftenignored issue of men’s health In line with this kick off, fifty percent of proceeds from every order of a Movember drink special (inspirationally named after revolutionary men worldwide) bought at the 720 Bar from November 7 November 30, will contribute to the cancer research in

fighting the diseases. Olongapo City Medical Society also supported the event by providing an antioxidant level screening and offered to all guests a fifty percent discount for a prostate specific antigen (PSA) test with the organization’s affiliated clinic. For more details on how to get involved, visit: www.facebook.com/MovemberPI ; www.movemberpi.com and www.movember.com This event is presented by The Lighthouse Marina Resort, MovemberPI, 720 Bar and The Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation.
