WELCOME Welcome to our new Autumn season which offers a veritable feast of theatre, dance, music, comedy, circus and film from some of the best UK companies and artists. It is a year since we re-opened the doors after our refurbishment and the new spaces and updates to the building have worked brilliantly making a real difference to our artists, audiences and our team. The BSO celebrates its 125th Anniversary year with a thrilling programme across the season, led by their exciting Chief Conductor Kirill Karabits. In October, the world’s first pop up, plug- in- and -play theatre ‘The Roundabout’ returns to Poole Park - an absolutely magical theatre experience. We are delighted to be working once again as associate partners with physical theatre company Gecko – who bring their new production ‘The Wedding’ in October. Further nuptially inspired theatre of a totally different kind is ‘The Wedding Reception’ – an immersive dining experience brought to you from the makers of ‘Faulty Towers’ which sold out last season. Acclaimed physical theatre company Frantic Assembly appear for the first time with ‘Things I know to be True’. Panto returns in December with the team that brought us Aladdin last year. Full casting will soon be announced for ‘Cinderella’ – a traditional and magical family Pantomime. For younger audiences we are delighted to be co-producing ‘Great Odds’ with Mac’s Arcadian. Stuff and Nonsense Theatre Company return with ‘Three Little Pigs’ with delightful puppets and magical storytelling. Look out too for our co-production of ‘The Drive’ by local favourites Angel Exit as it tours Dorset and the country after its Lighthouse premiere in July. Watch out later this year for news on our 40th birthday events in 2018. There is so much to come and see in Poole this year so do take a look inside this brochure or go online.

Dr. David Mortimore is about to deliver the most important lecture of his life when into his hospital sanctuary comes Jane Tate - ex-nurse
and ex-girlfriend - with shocking news as to why she departed so hastily 16 years and nine months ago. Trying to hold both his career and marriage together, there is only one solution - send for faithful friend Dr. Bonney. What ensues is a dangerous web of expanding lies and manic cover-ups involving a Police Sergeant, Dr. Mortimore’s wife, a severe hospital Matron and Dr. Bonney’s mother as the duo improvise at breathtaking speed in a near faultless piece of theatrical invention with the inevitable ... hilarious consequences. This is farce at its finest, spinning deliriously out of control and tickling the funny bones.

The Wedding Created by Amit Lahav We are all married, bound by a contract. But what are the terms of this relationship and can we talk about divorce? Gecko’s latest creation is inspired by the complexities of human nature; the struggle between love and anger, creation and destruction, community and isolation. In a blur of wedding dresses and contractual obligations, their extraordinary ensemble of international performers guides audiences through a dystopian world in which we are all brides, wedded to society.
Combining movement, imagery and provocative narratives into Gecko’s trademark style, The Wedding brings these contracts into question with an emotionally charged and spectacular performance. Supported by Arts Council England and Ipswich Borough Council. The Wedding is a Gecko production. Cocommissioned by DanceEast and New Wolsey Theatre Ipswich, Northern Stage, HOME Manchester, and Beijing 707 N-Theatre Co. Sheila Girling TENDER LIGHT Sheila Girling, who died in 2014 aged 90, was an artist whose vibrant oils, watercolours, papercuts and collages were infused with a Modernist spirit and the vivid style of the American “colour field” abstract painters. She explored colourful abstraction and enjoyed collaborating with her husband, Sir Anthony Caro. She was also known as Lady Caro, the supportive wife of the sculptor Sir Anthony Caro. She once described their marriage as a “64-year conversation about art”.
