CELEBRATING 40 YEARS OF
THEATRE DANCE BSO MUSIC FILM CIRCUS COMEDY VISUAL ARTS IN POOLE
Entertaining since 1978
WELCOME Welcome to our 2018 Winter and Spring Programme. 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of this very special venue and to celebrate this landmark moment we have a packed diary of events and some exciting headline moments. We are thrilled to be an associate partner to ‘Light up Poole’ a new 3-day light art festival set to illuminate Poole in February. In April, local artist Mike Jeffries will be exhibiting a series of paintings in the main gallery. Proceeds from this exhibition will kick start our new LH40 fundraising campaign to support the delivery of our arts programme. During 2018 we will also be investing in artists, supporting the creation of new work and building our learning and participation programme. All of this needs support and there are a number of ways you can get involved. We are now offering the opportunity to Name a Seat. Whether in an individual or family name, an organisation, school or workplace; or in memory of a loved one, naming a seat in either our concert hall, theatre or cinema is a simple but very personal way to show your support and create a long lasting legacy. For more information go to our website or call fundraising on 01202 280000.

Julius Caesar
by Lillian Hellman
Shakespeare
When two women, who run a private school for girls are unjustly accused by a pupil of being in an ‘immoral’ relationship, an outraged community withdraw their children, forcing the school to close. Put on trial the women face economic and moral bankruptcy and a life of isolation and despair that leads to tragic consequences.
When our world feels more politically divided than ever Julius Caesar shows how the power to manipulate the masses, to incite hatred and create division is as much of a deadly weapon as a hidden dagger. This sharp and modern production thrusts the audience into the shadowy corridors of power, where murder and politics make lethal pacts.

THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO
IL TABARRO & GIANNI SCHICCHI
Olivier Award-winning ETO presents an energetic new production of Mozart’s classic comedy, one of the world’s most beloved operas. During the course of one eventful day, Figaro and Susanna must overcome every obstacle put in their way by Count Almaviva and his cronies before they can finally be united as man and wife. Blanche McIntyre (Tosca, 2017) returns to direct this most warm-hearted of operas, equally acclaimed for its sublime music and huge sense of fun.
Puccini’s one-act operas Il tabarro & Gianni Schicchi could hardly be more different: one is a moody romance ending in a grotesque murder on a barge in Paris, and the other is a sparkling comedy about a family inheritance in Florence. First performed in 2011 to great critical acclaim, this double bill shows Puccini at his finest as a master of the theatre that speaks to the heart.
Sung in English with surtitles.
