MAIN FEATURES WIND RIVER (15)
29, 30 Sep, 3-5 Oct
Director: Taylor Sheridan. Starring: Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Jon Bernthal. UK/Canada/USA 2017. 107 mins. After wildlife officer Cory Lambert (Renner) discovers a body on the blizzard-whipped plains of Wyoming’s Wind River Indian Reservation, the FBI sends in rookie agent Jane Banner (Olsen) to lead the investigation. Unprepared for the unforgiving, inhospitable terrain, she employs Lambert as a tracker, and the pair venture out in pursuit of the killer. But something about his past makes Lambert a reluctant ally.
DUNKIRK (12A)
29, 30 Sep & 3 Oct
Director: Christopher Nolan. Starring: Fionn Whitehead, Harry Styles, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, Tom Hardy. Netherlands/UK/France/USA 2017. 106 mins. Described by director Christopher Nolan as “the most visceral experiential two hours that audiences can hope for”, this triptych survival story tracks the evacuation of over 330,000 Allied troops from the beaches of Dunkirk in May 1940.
Contains sustained threat, intense sequences, moderate violence and strong language.
LOGAN LUCKY (12A)
30 Sep, 4 & 5 Oct
Director: Steven Soderbergh. Starring: Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Daniel Craig, Riley Keough. USA 2017. 119 mins. In an attempt to reverse a family curse, brothers Jimmy and Clyde Logan set out to execute an elaborate robbery during the legendary Coca-Cola 600 race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Referencing his highly successful heist franchise, maverick director Steven Soderbergh describes it as an “inversion of an Ocean’s movie” – and there are certainly some wonderfully comedic moments and wild-card twists, not least when the redneck siblings spring safe-cracking supremo Joe Bang from jail.
Contains infrequent strong language and moderate violence.
VICTORIA & ABDUL (PG)
6, 7, 10-12 Oct, 4, 7 & 9 Nov
Director: Stephen Frears. Starring: Judi Dench, Ali Fazal, Eddie Izzard. UK/USA 2017. 112 mins. The year is 1887, and the British Empire is celebrating Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee. A young Indian clerk travels to England to present the monarch with a ceremonial coin. “Whatever you do, you must not look at Her Majesty”, he is told. But he does. And so begins one of the unlikeliest friendships in history. As the Queen questions the constrictions of her long-held position, she forms a strong bond with her newest servant. Their alliance provokes outrage and conspiracy within the Royal Household, but it rejuvenates the cosseted ruler, who begins to see a changing world through new eyes. A lavish, heartfelt period drama with wit and charm.
01202 280000 BORG VS. MCENROE (Cert TBC)
13, 14, 17-19 Oct
Director: Janus Metz Pedersen. Starring: Sverrir Gudnason, Shia LaBeouf, Stellan Skarsgård, Tuva Novotny. Sweden/ Denmark/Finland 2017. TBC mins. English, and Swedish with English subtitles. Björn Borg has the tennis world at his feet. Ranked number one and playing at the top of his game, the calm, ascetic Swede is on the verge of a record-breaking fifth consecutive Wimbledon Championship. Only one man stands in his way – John McEnroe, a young American firebrand with a swagger brazen enough to unsettle even Borg’s icy composure. As the final approaches, both men delve into their formative memories to find the strength and answers they’ll need to triumph on the hallowed turf of SW19. As much a character study as a sports movie, Borg Vs. McEnroe reveals the personalities and inner demons that would shape one of the sporting world’s most riveting dramas – the thrilling high point of a compelling rivalry.
GOODBYE CHRISTOPHER ROBIN (PG)
21, 24-26 Oct
Director: Simon Curtis. Starring: Domhnall Gleeson, Margot Robbie, Kelly Macdonald, Will Tilston. UK 2017. 107 mins. The adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh may have captured the hearts of children for almost a century, but it’s the fascinating, moving story behind this honey-loving bear that steals the spotlight in Goodbye Christopher Robin. Inspired by his son’s collection of toys, A. A. Milne (Gleeson) pens the magical world of Pooh Bear and friends. The Milne family are swept up in the international success of the books, but the fame it brings comes at a price.
THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN US (Cert TBC)
27, 28, 31 Oct, 1 & 2 Nov
Director: Hany Abu-Assad. Starring: Idris Elba, Kate Winslet. USA 2017. TBC mins. Strangers until their commercial flight out of Salt Lake City is cancelled, Dr Ben Bass (Elba) and journalist Alex Martin (Winslet) impulsively charter a light aircraft together. Unfortunately for them its jovial pilot (Beau Bridges) fails to file a flight plan, so when they crash in the snow-clad High Uintas Mountains, no one knows to come looking. An epic survival drama ensues, all the more onerous since Alex has busted her leg and they face just about every physical treachery the mountains can throw at them. United by their survival instincts, an unlikely romance builds between the steely Bass and the very-much-engaged Alex, whose fiancée (Dermot Mulroney) frets furiously back home. Director Hany Abu-Assad (2006’s Oscar-nominated Paradise Now) keeps us on the edge of our seats with this two-pronged ‘will-they, won’t they’ story.
www.lighthousepoole.co.uk THE PARTY (Cert TBC)
28, 29, 31 Oct, 1 & 2 Nov
Director: Sally Potter. Starring: Patricia Clarkson, Bruno Ganz, Cherry Jones, Emily Mortimer, Cillian Murphy, Kristin Scott Thomas, Timothy Spall. UK 2017. 71 mins. She and her husband Bill (Spall) plan to celebrate this with a few close friends. As the guests arrive at their home in London, the party takes an unexpected turn when Bill suddenly makes some explosive revelations that take everyone present by surprise. What follows is a hilarious comedy of tragic proportions in which love, friendships and political convictions are soon called into question. From acclaimed British filmmaker Sally Potter, The Party is a smart, fast-paced film full of razor-sharp one-liners that perfectly suits these turbulent times.
THE DEATH OF STALIN (15)
3, 4, 7-9 Nov
Director: Armando Iannucci. Starring: Steve Buscemi, Jeffrey Tambor, Simon Russell Beale, Michael Palin, Jason Isaacs. France/UK 2017. 107 mins. The internal political landscape of 1950s Soviet Russia takes on darkly comic form in a new film by Oscarnominated writer/director Armando Iannucci (Veep, In The Loop, The Thick Of It). In the days following Stalin’s collapse, the dictator’s underlings tussle for control. Some want positive change in the Soviet Union; others have more sinister motives. But they all have one thing in common: they’re just desperate to stay alive.
BREATHE (12A)
10-12, 14-16 Nov
Director: Andy Serkis. Starring: Andrew Garfield, Claire Foy, Hugh Bonneville, Tom Hollander. UK 2017. 117 mins. Handsome, adventurous and brilliant, army-captainturned-tea-merchant Robin Cavendish (Garfield) has everything to look forward to when he meets and marries the beautiful Diana Blacker (Foy). But at the age of 28 he is struck down by polio, which confines him to a hospital bed and leaves him reliant on a machine for every breath. With the help of Diana’s twin brothers (Hollander) and the groundbreaking ideas of inventor Teddy Hall (Bonneville), Robin and Diana dare to escape the hospital ward to seek out a full and passionate life together – raising their young son, travelling and devoting their lives to helping other polio patients. Andy Serkis’s directorial debut is an inspirational true story of love without limits and a heartwarming celebration of hope, courage and human possibility.
Contains infrequent bloody images.

With the help of a brilliant new recruit (Ferguson), Hole must outwit this unthinkable evil before the next snowfall.
CALL ME BY YOUR NAME (15)
17, 18, 21-23 Nov
Director: Luca Guadagnino. Starring: Armie Hammer, Timothée Chalamet, Michael Stuhlbarg. Italy/France/Brazil/USA 2017. 132 mins. English, Italian and French with English subtitles. Luca Guadagnino’s latest film is a sublime coming-of-age romance set on the sun-kissed Italian Riviera that evokes the universal agony and ecstasy of first love. During the shimmering summer of 1983, precocious Italian-American teenager Elio (a revelatory Chalamet) spends his days at his family’s seventeenth-century villa studying music and flirting with his friend Marzia. When the much older Oliver arrives to study with his historian father, however, Elio’s romantic ambitions develop in a very different direction.
BLADE RUNNER 2049 (Cert TBC) 17, 21-23 Nov Director: Denis Villeneuve. Starring: Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Jared Leto, Ana de Armas, Robin Wright. USA/UK/Canada 2017. TBC mins. One of the decade’s most anticipated films, the sequel to Ridley Scott’s seminal 1982 neo-noir, Blade Runner, is finally upon us. Scott himself returns as producer, freeing up the director’s chair for the supremely talented Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Sicario), while Harrison Ford reprises his role as Rick Deckard. In 2049, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Gosling), uncovers a terrible secret that could throw what’s left of an already broken society into terminal chaos. His discovery leads him on a quest to find former replicant hunter Deckard, who has been missing for 30 years. In true Blade Runner style, K wants to ask him some questions – the answers to which may have a lot to do with a chilling creator of ‘disposable workforces’, Niander Wallace (Leto).
