The local glass factory shut down after more than 100 years of glass making. Bomma’s founder Jiri Trtik decided to build his own factory to employ the skilled craftsmen and engineers suddenly left without a job. Europe’s most modern glass manufactory opened in June 2012. From the beginning their focus was on artisan craftmanship, innovative technology and contemporary design. Bomma design and build their own cutting machines and tools. All their products are manufactured locally in the Czech Republic

The giant TIM domes where originally created to house TIM Burton’s movie characters in his Prague exhibition. The TIM lights followed and became an instant success at Salone del Mobile 2015. They are freely handblown weighing up to 30 kg and measuring up to 750 mm – a dimension very few glassmakers in the world can achieve.

The DISC collection follows the idea of TIM pendant with its exceptionally big amount of mouthblown crystal. However, this time the round shape is defined by a mold. With its minimalistic design, fine materials and details, it gives the impression of something elementary and close, at the same time something unknown, mysterious and unique. Combining crystal with metal, DISC resembles a real space lighting object.

The Orbital collection draws its inspiration from the physics of the Solar System with circular shapes evoking the trajectories of planets and celestial bodies around a star. These objects emphasize the essential principles of glassblowing that create a lens in the center of the shape, deforming the visual space within the object and paraphrasing the space-time distortion in the universe. A light bulb is placed in the center of the fixture, representing the Sun and held between the glass components by an elegantly detailed metal fitting. The two glass elements are individually attached, enabling a wide variety of dozens colour combinations.

The main structural element made from brass, is available in three finishes: brushed brass, burnished bronze and matt copper. The glass element, either rounded or elongated in form, has been treated with a gradient finish that fades from opaque white to transparent, helping minimise glare when you look directly at the lamp. This process, as well as the development of all Cangini and Tucci glasses, is made entirely by hand, making each product unique from one another. 8
