One and half year is more than enough for any government to formulate its policy and set its agenda. As entrepreneurs and investors Top decision patiently await the announcement of themaknew e Tourism Policy, delay in its announcement will only slow down the progress in the tourism sector and hurt the industry as well as the overall economy of the country. I changed since 2002 when the government had announced the last National Tourism Policy. Moreover, any policy of a democratic government must be aimed at the inclusive socioeconomic development of its citizenry through employment and income generation. So while finalizing the new tourism policy, the government must incorporate these objectives into the new policy. Once the new policy is announced, the key to success of the government’s tourism policy will be its effective and time-boundIndia implemenis an tation. Howsoever perfect our policy may be, a unless it is implemented properly, we will not be able to achieve the desired goals. We all know that implementation is a key concern area in our country. So the MoT must ensure that the new policy is effectively implemented in a time-bound manner. Read our cover story titled ‘NPT 2015 still in Making’ at page no. 30 to know in detail the consequences of delay in the announcement of the new tourism policy. Delay in the announcement of the new policy is a direct loss of employment and tourism receipts as a strong tourism policy has the potential to spur growth. Example of Turkey and Thailand are classic examples of tourism growth in a sharp contrast to where India stands today. So the sooner NTP 2015 is announced, the better it will be for Indian tourism sector. As the new inbound tourism sets in India, we have also done a story (at page no. 6) on the expected business in the new inbound season. We found that traditional enthusiasm for the season is missing among the inbound tour operates, and their expectation is very modest. However, the industry must keep its fingers crossed and intensify its efforts to get maximum of the new season. Let’s hope for the best!

New Inbound season may disappoint: fears the industry Business prospect in the new inbound season does not look very promising as many global economies are faring worse this year and travellers are less enthusiastic to travel long-haul destinations.
v B PREM KUMAR Y
Every year India’s travel & tourism industry of the country looks forward to the arrival of the inbound tourism season in the country, and so is it doing this year, but the business sentiment in the industry is currently subdued to some extent. Traditional enthusiasm for the new inbound season is missing. Speaking about the business prospect in the new inbound tourism season in the country, Rajeev Kohli, Joint Managing Director, Creative Travel India said that this season definitely looks a bit soft. “International economies are faring a lot worse this year and that is diverting consumer attention from long-haul travel. My feedback from colleagues in the industry and some hoteliers is

Destination Queenstown has today launched a light hearted new marketing campaign encouraging “our Aussie mates” to stow away to Queenstown for a spring break. Designed to encourage trans-Tasman visitors to make the most of fantastic spring skiing conditions and the huge range of activities on offer in Queenstown, the “sick day, stow away” campaign takes a tongue in cheek look at pulling a sickie to escape for a holiday. According to Destination Queenstown, research shows, that of the 1,005 full-time-employed Australian surveyed, four in five (81%) have taken a sick day at some point in their career when they’re not really ill, with the most common reason given to employers for the feigned day off being ‘piggybacking on a bug sweeping through the workplace’ (18%). When it comes to taking a sick day, Australians also like to plan ahead, with the average Aussie worker taking three days to plan their pretend illnesses.
