After the successful conclusion of the IATO convention last month, the travel and tourism industry will be reconnecting this month at the Madhya Pradesh Travel Mart and the Travel Agents Association of India’s annual convention. This time, Abu Dhabi is the chosen venue for the convention and Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA) is busy gearing up to welcome TAAI members. Abu Dhabi is an apt site because it works superbly as a MICE destination but also extends to a leisure and family destination. Additionally, TCA is the correct partner to showcase the unique experiences Abu Dhabi offers beyond the stunning but expected Emirates Palace. It is also a great opportunity for the destination to boost tourist arrivals from India by connecting travel decision-makers in the area with their Indian counterparts. Read more on TCA's country manager in India, Bejan Dinshaw’s expectations from the convention on page 23.
The theme for the convention is ‘Tomorrow Begins Now: Rise Above Routine’. TAAI’s aim is to encourage members to adopt new and more lucrative business

TAAI convention to boost the UAE-India tourism ties 63rd Annual Convention & Exhibition of Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) being held in Abu Dhabi from October 14-16, 2016 is expected to boost tourism ties between the UAE and India.

This year the annual convention of TAAI also known as the Indian Travel Congress is being held at Emirates Palace hotel in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. Yas Island is an emerging entertainment destination and home to Yas Marina, the state-of-the-art Yas Marina Circuit, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Yas Waterworld, Yas Links Abu Dhabi, Yas Beach as well as Yas Mall (UAE's 2nd largest shopping centre. Abu Dhabi is also home to world's largest hand loomed carpet, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Ferrari World etc. Abu Dhabi’s wide range of experiences, landscapes and deep-rooted heritage combine to create a compelling visitor experience. Selection of Abu Dhabi as the venue for TAAI’s 63rd Annual Convention & Exhibition is very opportune in view of deepening relation between India and the UAE. Quite recently the Government of India announced that Abu Dhabi’s crown prince, Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, would be the Chief Guest at India’s next Republic Day parade. Thanking the crown prince, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the coming of HH

TAAI convention is a great opportunity for TCA Abu Dhabi and its stakeholders The convention of Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) being held in Abu Dhabi is a great opportunity for Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority and its stakeholders to build strong links with the leaders and decision-makers of India’s outbound industry, says Bejan Dinshaw, Country Manager, India, TCA Abu Dhabi.
v B Prem Kumar Y
Q
How do you see the next Annual Convention of Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), which is being held in Abu Dhabi? How do you see the convention helping promotion of tourism from India to Abu Dhabi? The convention gives TCA Abu Dhabi and its stakeholders a great opportunity to build strong links with the leaders and decision-makers of India’s outbound industry. We see this convention as the start of what we hope will become a solid, long-term relationship. We have, after all, mutual aims. The agents need to build the business with new offerings and Abu Dhabi has fresh, new-to-market propositions. The agents will get a taste of the emirate – we hope they return to discover more later – and they will also get the chance to gauge, first hand, our capabilities in hosting major association conventions.
ways has opened up new opportunities for travellers from across India. We regularly interact with the travel agents and MICE agents across India, in order to increase travellers to Abu Dhabi.
Q
Bejan Dinshaw Country Manager, India, TCA Abu Dhabi
India? India is the largest overseas source market for hotels in Abu Dhabi. Indian outbound travellers include young couples, luxury travellers and weekend or holiday break travellers. We have also witnessed that Indian travellers nowadays are well informed and do their in-depth research
Q
TAAI has associated with Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority for holding this convention, so what kind of support TCA Abu Dhabi is providing for the convention? We have co-ordinated with hotels and attractions to provide facilitation for the convention and its delegates and are staging a welcome reception for all TAAI delegates and some of our stakeholders at our signature Emirates Palace hotel.
Q
How important is the Indian market for Abu Dhabi tourism? Kindly elaborate on the steps you have taken recently to promote Abu Dhabi in
Kindly share recent figures and growth rate of Indian arrivals to Abu Dhabi. In the first half of this year some 152,423 Indians checked into Abu Dhabi’s hotels – a 20% year-on-year uplift and accounting for 7% of all the emirate’s hotel guest stays. Indian guests currently stay in the emirate’s hotels for an average of 3.4 nights. We see enormous potential in building inbound traffic from India with five airlines, including our own national carrier Etihad, flying to destinations within the republic from Abu Dhabi International Airport. There are currently over 300 flights a week from 15 Indian destinations to Abu Dhabi giving thousands of travellers easy access to our destination within a four-hour flight time.

Is there any new initiative you are planning for Indian Market? We conduct numerous joint media promotions with the trade fraternity, a few of which are going to start soon. We are also shortly going to roll out a new Abu Dhabi marketing campaign and India will be a target market for this. We also have a few road shows and media interactions lined up till the end of this year to target travellers from across the country.

Madhya Pradesh:
A fast emerging MICE destination MICE (Meetings Incentives Conventions & Exhibition) or Business Travel is increasingly being recognised as the largest tourism sub-sector. Madhya Pradesh that envisions to be the number one tourist destination in the country identifies MICE “at the core” of state’s initiative to boost its tourism profile.

The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan doesn’t miss an opportunity to showcase his state. About a year and half ago, he flew all the way from Bhopal to the national capital to attend MP’s biggest ever tourism road show. He spoke soon after at the 31st Annual IATO Convention in Indore last year, the Jalmahotsav and ATOAI’s Annual Convention followed soon after. Chauhan message is clear. He says his state is developing a habit of being at the number one position in the country in areas like economic growth and farm production and wants to achieve a “similar feat in tourism” as well. Late night outings, big meals and less time for routine workout make it difficult. However, staying fit while travelling is important not just for fun, but also to make your vacation more productive. To make it easy, TnH lists some smart tips for you to stay fit while enjoying your vacations‌.
v B Archana Sharma Y
Bring your workout gear Instead of saving extra space, pack your bulky workout shoes (or running shoes), extra outfits, and light workout equipment like jump rope or fitness bands. After all, what's bad the extra pounds on you or the extra pounds in your luggage? So, be sure to carry your workout gear with you.
the destination. Or for a nice change of pace, find out where the nearest park is, where you can do some pull ups, pushups, etc. If the destination is offering different options, then there is no harm in trying something new activity as exercise. For example, at beach destination, you can try snorkeling or waterskiing, and of course, swimming.
Test and try it out Before going for vacation, test your exercise routine at home so that you get habitual of it. This practice will certainly encourage you to complete your workout while on your vacations. And, if you aren't sure of the facilities to be available at the destination, plan exercises that don't require equipments or special room, for example, spot running, push-ups, single leg squats, lunges, and crunches.
Commit to healthier eating options Sticking to healthy food while on vacation can be challenging task, but the good news is that restaurants are now offering healthier choices. You can make them easily; choose to ask for sauces and dressings on the side. You can order fruits for breakfast and do the same with vegetables at dinner. If you have time, you can visit the grocery store and buy some healthy snacks. These alternatives will help you to be on track with your diet.
Do advance research Before you travel, research about the best place to perform your planned exercises. For instance, if you like running, search about the best running trails at
Share the fun If you are holidaying with your friends along with family, then invite them to join you to help keep you accountable.
Ask them to join you for an exercise excursion. Regardless of your vacations, sharing this simple workout experience will help keep you on track. Explore the new sights Always select a new travel destination, because exploring sights and sounds of a new place can be the easiest way to carry on with your exercise. And it won't seem like exercise! You can go for a long hike. Before or after selecting the destination, you can choose historic sites and take a walking tour to those places. Exploring a new destination on foot can be the perfect way to experience and appreciate all it has to offer. Relax a little Last but not the least, always remember vacations are perfect time to get some rest and relaxation as well. So, don’t forget to book some "me time" to relax and enjoy with a massage, pedicure, or facial after a nice long hike or swim. After all, you deserve it!

the ancient Sanskrit word ‘khajur’ meaning date palm. It is believed
that the temples had two golden date palm trees at their gate, thus giving the city its name. The Khajuraho temples were built between 950–1050 AD, and there is a mythological tale behind their building. Legend goes that Hemwati, the daughter of a Brahmin priest, was seduced by the moon god while bathing in a forest pool. The child born from this union was Chandravarman, founder of the Chandela dynasty. Hemwati had to seek refuge from a censorious society due to which Chandravarman was brought up in the forest. Once he established himself as a ruler, he had a dream in which his mother asked him to build temples that would reveal human passions. Thus, he created the majestic symphony of sculpture and architecture known to the world as the Khajuraho temples. Images of gods, goddesses, warriors, musicians, real and mythological animals, and erotica adorn these temples, depicting scenes of sexual and spiritual harmony. However, these pieces of art lay forgotten for centuries and were only rediscovered and restored in the 20th century. Out of a total of 85 temples, around 25 temples have survived till today.

Exquisitely carved with gods, goddesses, celestial maidens and lovers, the sanctum sanctorum of the temple enshrines a lingam. You can also head to Kandariya Art & Culture, a huge emporium selling replicas of Khajuraho’s temple carvings along with textiles, wood carvings and marble inlay. Eating out: Khajuraho is a town that gets a lot of tourists, and so there are a number of good options for eating out located just opposite the western complex of temples. ABU DHABI A FASCINATING BLEND OF NATURE, TRADITION AND MODERNITY With sun-kissed beaches, themed amusement parks, spectacular man-made structures and exciting desert drives, this emirate is rising as a desirable holiday destination amongst all kinds of travellers. TnH has listed some reasons why you should explore this destination......

bu Dhabi is the capital and the second most populous city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after Dubai. It spans over an area of 972. 45 sq. km. The city is located on the northeastern part of the Persian Gulf in the Arabian Peninsula. One of the major differences between Abu Dhabi and Dubai is that Dubai has successfully marketed itself, compared to Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi is traditional, whereas Dubai has a western touch, and it is a cosmopolitan state of UAE. As far as history of Abu Dhabi is concerned, historical records indicates of inhabitants dating back to 5500 B.C., though new evidence has emerged suggesting that it could have been much earlier; possibly as far back as the Stone Ages. Historians and archeologists are amassing technological ev-

idence that points to earlier populations being present such as irrigation tools and iron structures and galleries. Read on to know more about Abu Dhabi.
Stroll around the Corniche Formed as a sweeping curve on the western side of the main Abu Dhabi Island, the Corniche is an epic four-mile public walk with many places to stop by and enjoy a picnic. You can stroll around this Corniche, or else hire a bike to cover the promenade. There are two most amazing things which catch your eyes. One is the emirate's flag, as big as a bus atop a 360ft pole, and the second is noteworthy Capital Gate building, with a built-in lean of 18 degrees (the slant on Pisa's tower is four degrees). Also, the Avenue at Etihad Towers is a new mall dedicated to

high-end fashion. Don’t forget to visit Qasr al Hosn fort, which is the oldest building in the city.
Yas Island- the Island of adventures Near the Abu Dhabi airport, Yas Island is an anxious, red-hot centre of adrenaline rides. The Ferrari World (motorsportthemed entertainment complex) is the first theme park dedicated to the famous racing car. The outstanding ride is the world's fastest rollercoaster, Formula Rossa, which touches 150mph. Abu Dhabi's Formula 1 track is also available here. Other rides include, cling on and watch your knuckles turn white. The Waterworld, which opened this year is said to be the world's biggest water park, with a dizzying choice of raft rides, frightening ravines, slides, and endless wave machines. Spectacular man-made structures and art This emirate's newest bold plan is to bring some of the world's greatest art to its new cultural district on the Saadiyat Island, which is just ten-minute taxi ride from the city centre. Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, and
the Louvre Abu Dhabi, showcase loans from its Paris namesake and other French museums. However, there is a permanent exhibition, ‘the Saadiyat Island’ story, explains the vision. A unique masterpiece of this city is the vast Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, which is open for free visits. It holds the room for 40,000 worshippers and the mosque boasts the world's largest carpet as well as largest chandelier. The columns feature marble panels inlaid with semi-precious stones. Emirates Palace, skyscrapers like the Capital Gate are some of the other man-made structures to look for.
Explore the golden desert There is the razor-sharp crest of a 100 ft. sand dune, which you can explore. You can choose the 4x4 tours into this pristine golden world, empty besides from the odd oil well or power pylon. Also, visit Al Ain, dubbed as a Garden City because of its greenery settled near the desert. At the Al Jahili Fort, there's a permanent exhibition to the great British travel writer and explorer Wilfred Thesiger, who crossed the region during the 1940s.
How to reach Abu Dhabi? By Plane: Abu Dhabi International Airport is the UAE's second busiest airport (after Dubai) and the home base of Abu Dhabi's flag carrier Etihad. Other major companies that fly into Abu Dhabi include Air India, British Airways, Jet Airways, KLM, Pakistan International Airlines and Turkish Airlines. Nevertheless, the majority of flights that operate into Abu Dhabi are operated by Etihad Airways. By Bus: You can get into Abu Dhabi from the other Emirates of Dubai, Sharjah, etc, by bus. The Emirates Express between Abu Dhabi and Dubai is operated jointly by the Abu Dhabi and Dubai municipalities. The 130km route takes around two hours. The buses operated by Dubai's RTA are luxury buses that charge 25 dirhams for the onward journey to Abu Dhabi and AED15 for the return journey. By Taxi: You can flag down any metered taxi on the street in Dubai or any other place in the UAE and ask to go to Abu Dhabi. The cost between Dubai and Abu Dhabi is about AED250. From Abu Dhabi, taxis cost about AED200 to Dubai.

proposes establishment of BRICS Tourism Working Stream South Africa Tourism Minister has proposed setting up of a BRICS Tourism Working Stream that will include the public and the private sectors within the BRICS countries. Speaking at the recently held BRICS Convention on Tourism in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, South African Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom, appreciated Government of India for taking the initiative to host this historic convention. “We are confident that this meeting will lead to greater cooperation and collaboration Derek Hanekom Tourism Minister, South Africa between our BRICS countries, as we all strive to make tourism a thriving force for economic and social development,” said Hanekom. He added that he was honored to represent his country in Khajuraho, a place which reflects India’s rich cultural heritage. “Powerful ideas for advancing social cohesion came to life in ancient places like this, and it is appropriate that we have gathered here to make tourism a powerful force for the growth of our nations in the future,” said Hanekom. He stressed that the immediate value of tourism stems from the economic activity it creates every day at every developingdestination on the globe, the jobs it supports, the small and large enterprises it sustains within countries, and the advances it can bring for people and their communities. Hanekom informed that tourism now contributes 9% in the GDP of South Africa,, and supports about one in every 10 jobs across the entire value chain. “We believe we can grow this contribution even further by developing a strong domestic tourism economy and transforming our sector to become more inclusive of all our people. This forms the basis of our developmental agenda, along with training our people and enhancing our destination,” said the Minister.

Tourism brings a string of benefits for developing economies, according to the Minister. It supports a wide and diverse value chain, which encompasses many other sectors like the services and retail sector, transport, construction, agriculture and manufacturing. The impact of growth in tourism has a ripple effect on all these sectors. “In the longer term, the opportunities created for small enterprises, entrepreneurs and innovators means that the benefits of tourism permeate through developing economies and acts as a catalyst for further development,” said Hanekom. Tourism can generate the resources that developing countries need to conserve and preserve their natural and cultural heritage, serving an important environmental and social purpose. “We know that when people from diverse cultural backgrounds interact and engage with each other, greater understanding and tolerance is forged among the people of the world. For developing countries, the sense of pride and belonging which successful tourism can instill in our citizens can be a powerful force for building nationhood, alongside building the economy and enhancing our national infrastructure,” said Hanekom. The coming together of developing nations through the BRICS formation is a worthy and noble idea to gather our ideas and resources for the mutual benefit of all our nations, Hanekom continued, “The unity we are forging through trade and cultural exchanges, and through consolidating our developmental efforts, strengthens our influence over global issues, multiplying the capacity of each one of us to effect the changes we seek to make. But this gathering will be only as effective as the extent to which we are able to put in place concrete plans and mechanisms that advance our respective developmental agenda, and bring tangible benefits for all our people.” With the growing ties between the economies of BRICS countries, South Africa has taken steps to address the negative effects some of our visa regulations have had on tourism flows from our partner BRICS countries, informed the Minister, adding that South Africa has lifted requirement of “in-person” visa applications in China. The country has also introduced various measures to facilitate visa access in India. The results have been most encouraging: we are seeing extraordinary growth in tourist arrivals from China and India. “The cooperation on tourism development between South Africa and Brazil is yielding positive results, as we learn from each other and share strategies, like how to use our national parks effectively for tourism development,” by TNH DESK added the Minister.
