Heavy-duty encoder range for harsh environments Heavy-duty encoders for harsh, marine and critical environments are born out of Lika's extensive experience in a variety of tricky sectors such as offshore facilities, marine installations, harbour equipment, mining industry, iron and steel mills, cranes, portal cranes and hoists, heavy vehicles, wind turbines and solar power plants. Heavy-duty encoders are designed to cope with extreme and high aggressive environmental conditions. Stainless steel enclosures and special surface treatments and sealings ensure safe protection against salt water and corrosion. They are rugged and can withstand heavy mechanical stresses, shocks and vibrations and large temperature fluctuations up to -40°C +100°C (-40°F +212°F). Shaft encoders can further mount electrically insulated bearings to provide insensitivity to eddy currents in the drive shaft. Electronics is fully overmoulded and can be made redundant in specific versions: separate sensors and/or independent circuitries, power supply and wiring produce greater reliability and safety of data exchange. In addition, high-performance Power outputs ensure dependable signal transmission over long distances (> 300 m) without the need for repeaters and amplifiers. SMLA contactless and bearingless absolute encoder + MRA262 segmented ring are among the latest innovations in the range. This encoder is fitted with a segmented ring expressly designed for simplified installation in large diameter shafts up to 190 mm where access for mounting or servicing is difficult. The ring in fact is divided into two parts, the pieces are joined from the sides of the shaft and then fastened together in a very easy and fast way. The encoder is able to provide 15-bit resolution (32,768 steps) over the complete circumference without any loss of information at joints. Output circuits can be SSI or BiSS-C and they both provide alarm bits. The magnetic sensing technology allows for non-contact and frictionless measuring principle with no components subject to wear or fatigue. SMLA affords excellent durability under adverse conditions and temperatures (-25°C +85°C, -13°F +185°F) thanks to the encapsulated electronics and its IP68 protection enclosure. This guarantees reliability over time and longer operating life. Remarkable speeds up to 15,000 rpm can be achieved. To face extreme conditions C100 incremental encoder is one of the flagships in the range. A well-encapsulated aluminium housing is claimed to withstand wide temperature fluctuations (extended operating range -40°C +100°C, -40°F +212°F) and heavy mechanical stresses (radial shaft loading up to 350 N) with IP65 protection rate; moreover it is protected by surface treatments against salt water and corrosion. hollow or tapered shaft is electrically insulated (up to 10 kV) in order to preserve the robust ball bearings from damages due to eddy currents. It provides a full range of resolutions up to 10,000 PPR and safe signal transmission at high counting frequency granted even over long distances up to 300 m (984.251 ft): high-performance Power Push-Pull and Power Line Driver output circuits considerably reduce quality degradation or loss of signals on long cables. Along with standard M23 12-pin connector and cable outputs, the encoder can be equipped with terminal blocks for greater comfort and convenience of installations that require special cables. For maximum operational safety C100 is also available with torque arm mounting and in redundant version “C101” with galvanically separated double output circuits.
