ARCHITECT
& INTERIOR DESIGNER
ABOUT ME I am an M. Arch graduate from the J. Irwin Miller Architecture Program at Indiana University. I have developed many skills, such as gaining an in-depth understanding of building tectonics, cultivating my critical thinking skills regarding the historical and cultural context of designing, furthering my understanding of design software, as well as broadening my artistic ability via learning new and exciting forms of media (ink, dry-point print making, etc). Through my bachelor’s in interior design, I have an adept understanding of human scale, especially when it comes to spatial planning and design. This is particularly true when it comes to designing a building, from the inside out. My graphic design skills have allowed me to become more detailed in my designs (wayfinding/ signage, branding, etc.) as well as make them more graphically comprehensive and appealing to others.

For the exterior of the building I wanted to bridge the visual gap between the four sides that surround it. Each building that confines the site speaks in their own language, to which none are the same. The goal is to create a cohesive link between the look of these buildings and the downtown area. For the interior of the building I wanted to make space for innovative ways of teaching. Active learning or “learning by doing”- is a commonality I found between schools that are successful in creating ideal learning environments. In my building I created rooms to facilitate that type of learning as well as space that allows classrooms to break out into. I created these spaces with the intention to 1) encourage creativity, 2) promote collaboration, and 3) create a network that allows students to form a community.

Eos’s Eos’ Farmers Market
First Year: Graduate Studio Fall Semester 2019
01 Brown Street Columbus, IN 47201
The location of the site is in the parking lot across from Cummins corporate office building (designed by Kevin Roche). The purpose of this project was to design a modular shading apparatus that could shade not only the cars of Cummins employees but also provides shade for the local farmers market that takes place in the area. For my design I was inspired by the Eos goddess statue that is on 5th street (which is near the site). I was inspired by the fluidity of her vine train and how they start from a central point, which is the goddess herself. My concept for this design was to create a central point that people would be gather in and around with the end on the side of nature (Mill Race Park). To do this I focused on defining an entrance to the site (the right corner) which is heavily used by pedestrians. I then had the modules shift to the center to become more dense defining the stage area. The modules then shift again to fade as they return on the side of nature.

The top sketch model was created to get an idea of what the form would look like (the white paper) when repeated. This also helped give me an idea of scale and what the shaded spaces that sit below the form may look and feel like.
5TH STREET 13
The bottom two sketch models were created to get an idea of how the form connects. The model to the left plays with the “flangies” look-and-feel. The model to the right explores the raising and lowering heights of the modules with the small white square sitting on the chipboard base representing a human figure.
VIEW OF MARKET FACING 8TH STREET

The idea of starting from a central point and then “waving” or “growing” outwards was inspired by the train of the Eos statue. The module replicates this idea by starting from a central base and growing up-and-out from that point.

Creating a more formulaic and repetitive pattern based off of Eos’s vines was created then adapted to a more solid structural form.

Second & Third Year: Graduate Studio Spring & Fall Semester 2021-2022 Here you will see a selected collection of some of my favorite pieces I have created in the most recent year during my visual studies class at Indiana University. Observing art and creating artwork has been something I have been passionate about for a very long time. To be in a program that allowed me to work visual and tactile muscles is something that I find invaluable. During my time in this program it has allowed me to expand into many other mediums.

Camden Cafe & Office Space
Freelance Commissioned Project Fall 2021
99 South Main Street Camden, OH 45311
Camden is a small rural community located in Preble County Ohio. In the last few years the Camden Community board have been trying to revitalize the town not only to bring in new people but to also strengthen the bonds between the people in the community as a whole. The client for this adaptive reuse project wants to create a space for those of the community to gather, allow visiting professionals to work, and provide housing. The cafe, facing the street, has French style doors that open out onto the street drawing in visitors with the smell of fresh brewed coffee. Beyond the regular passerby- it was important to the client that the space also be used as a informal gathering space for the community to meet. At the back of the building is where the office spaces are located. A small reception area and waiting area is created as well as (3) nice size hoteling offices for visiting professionals (layer, architect, designer, etc). The basement of the building will hold office supplies/ furniture as well as extra tables and chairs for the cafe for informal community meetings. The upper floor will be converted into apartments.

Above is a collaborative mood board that was created between me and the client. For this project we wanted to keep as much of the original textures as possible in this design We also wanted to stay true to what is seen around Camden but add a modern twist. Materials we thought fit this vibe was dark wood, red brick, and fun patterns. The dark wood (stained or natural) can be found in many structures in Camden, the same can be said for the red
brick. Because the wood and brick are original to the structure of the building the client wanted to maintain them as is. The fun patterns which can be found in the upholstery of the shiplap booths and the curtains is to give a nod to Camden’s craft culture. The small town has many festivals during the year revolving around the art of craft making and confectionery.

Beyond Tradition: Tradition: Yoga Hut
Second Year: Graduate Studio Fall Semester 2021
The Vine Retreat Coordinates:10.5660066,104.3618488
This project was a submission for a competition. The site was the unused landscape on The Vine Retreat an eco-conscious yoga retreat located in rural Kep Cambodia. The perimeters of the project were to design a hut that could be replicated and positioned anywhere on the site and be designed to house (2) individuals for a short time, The objective of this project was to create a yoga hut that sits within the Cambodian landscape and fits within the family of the Vernacular rural architecture of Cambodia. How this was addressed was by having a focus on form, texture, and airflow. These three categories were then subdivided into two other categories defined as traditional and contemporary methods of rural Cambodian hut design.
28
FORM
The shapes for the form were derived from traditional Khmer architecture. The form was simplified because of the huts purpose as well as to make construction of multiple huts easier.
l TEXTURE
29
The texture of the hut comes from using materials and techniques that are used often in Cambodia. The use of sustainable & standard building materials such as bamboo & wood from invasive tree species makes up the majority of the huts form. While steel & dyed canvas are more of a “modern take” on a traditional design.
The design also serves a functional purpose. Inspired by boat cowl vents, typically used on boats to bring air into the lower deck, these four stationary openings allow wind to enter & be funneled into the interior of the hut.
N
The cluster of openings on the pique of the roof form is representative of the double piqued roofs that can be found in traditional Khmer architecture.

AIR FLOW
Air flow is created through the use of strategically placed openings that are situated along the axises of the hut. This maximizes the potential for cross ventilation within the hut regardless of how it is located on the site. The “air chimney” draws air from the outside into the interior cooling both the living space/ bedroom & the bathroom space.

SITE PLAN
N
Based on extensive climate research for this project, I decided that the huts should face East, or South East. One of my reasons for this is because based on yoga practice, East is considered one of the ideal directions to face during mediation due to the “powerful magnetic energy that is created”.
31
T
TH E
NE VI
EA TR E R
My other reason for choosing this orientation for the huts to be situated is because the wind that flows through the site travels South East to North West. With the East or South East orientation it would optimize the natural wind flow to create a cross breeze within the huts.

Emerald Apartments
Third Year: Graduate Studio Spring Semester 2022
Manteuffelstraße 4210997 Berlin, Germany
After spending 2 immersive months in Berlin, we were tasked with designing a multi-family residential building (16 units) as well as a shared educational and social spaces to be used by students traveling abroad. After returning from travels I decided to take inspiration from the “retro” and rectangular building forms in Berlin. For this project I looked to the surrounding context, the city as a whole as well as historical art movements. Collecting data from these fields then gave me a direction for the color and material pallet, presidents to study (Interbau Apartment House by Oscar Niemeyer and The Academy of Art & Architecture in the Netherlands by Wiel Arets Architects were big influences), and to lean into the “playing with order” theme that over compasses Berlin which intern brought me to looking at the De Stijl movement. Carving out the form of this structure was dictated by the want to create balconies (which are used year round in Germany) and to create a corner plaza on the site. Additionally by stepping back from the surrounding buildings it allows more breathing room to create a public green space towards the back of the building which would be used by students and residents of the building as well as those in the community.
