About us...

Lillico Attlee Country Stores have been a familyowned business since 1788. Originally operating as a grain and agricultural merchant, the business is now in its fifth generation of ownership with two stores, Lillico’s Country Store in Aylesford, and Attlee’s Country Store in Dorking.

With family values very much at the heart of the business and passed down through the generations, Lillico Attlee Country Stores offer everything the rural community needs from equestrian clothing, horse and farm feed and bedding, pet supplies and more. As well as a huge range of products, the stores also offer a number of services including rug cleaning, dog weighing, clipper blade sharpening and more.

Steeped in history, Attlee’s Country Store is the slightly older of the two stores and has been located in the heart of Dorking town centre for over 200 years. Founder John Attlee (great-grandfather of British Prime minister Clement Attlee) set up as an agricultural merchant at just 23 years old. The store has withstood the test of time, operating through ten monarchs, two World Wars and an industrial revolution to become the shop that it is today. In 1973, Attlee’s Country Store was purchased by W.M. Lillico & Son Lld and Lillico Attlee Country Stores was born.

Attlees moved to the Parsonage Mills site in 1839 and produced animal feed from the site all the way until 2013, with production moving to a new facility in Kent. Since then the Attlee’s Country Store has been modernised with a new country superstore, offering even more products and services to the local rural community, whilst still withholding the important values set by the Attlee family.

Lillico’s Country Store was also born out of agricultural merchanting but this time in Croydon in late 1800’s. A thriving market town at the time Lillico’s served the local rural community and hansom cabs of London in need of feed and bedding for the horses. Apprentice to William Lillico in 1865 William Lillico took over the company in 1880. The store remained in Croydon until late 1980’s when the company relocated to Aylesford in Kent. Just like Attlee’s, the business was passed down from generation to generation with the 5th generation in the business today.

With a commitment to serving the rural community and providing excellent customer service, our stores offer a friendly and easy shopping experience.

We are also committed to reducing our carbon footprint and being an environmentally friendly company. Both stores are powered by renewable energy, using energy saving LED lighting, recycle all plastic and cardboard waste and donate unsold or damaged animal feed to local animal charities. Visit the stores today for all your pet, equestrian and farm supplies. Our expert team of staff will be able to assist you with any questions, queries, or advice you may need. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Gutsy Horses are Happier with GastriAid

Gut function needs to be addressed daily, with modern diets and lifestyles, the gut is the body’s generator. Heat and nutrient absorption underpin the body’s immune system but in order to do so we need to promote a healthy, happy gut to maintain a happy, healthy horse.

The gut route

MOUTH: Saliva mixes with foodstuff, high in bicarbonate to help reduce the acidity of the stomach acid as it travels through.

STOMACH: Two areas, the ‘squamous’ at the top, ‘glandular’ at the bottom.

Squamous region is where food, saliva and water enters the stomach, its lining is not protected against the acidic environment. Relies on a fibre mat that sits on top of the glandular region, preventing any splashing that occurs if the fibre mat breaks down.

Glandular region sustains digestive secretions where the acid produced begins to use enzymes to split up the proteins.

Food then released into the SMALL INTESTINE: Here along its lengthy narrow channel it metabolises most of the diets vitamins and minerals as well as fats, proteins

and a vast percentage of the soluble carbohydrate.

Unlike a ruminant the horse is a HINDGUT fermenter, this means bacterial fibre digestion occurs which produces heat, assisting the individual’s ability to regulate their body temperature. There are billions of different cultures of bacterial colonies making up the hindgut microbiome. This acts like an army to breakdown and digest fibre and the remaining carbohydrates that have escaped the small intestine.

The gut reaction

FIBRE MAT: Breakdown results in acid splashing into the squamous region and causing uncomfortable lesions.

DIETARY CHANGES: Likely to affect bacterial populations, this can reduce the uptake of nutrients from the ingested fibre and unsettle the gut.

The gut response with GastriAid

SALIVA: Provide high alkaline support as well as additional calcium carbonate to provide that important buffer for the stomach acid.

SQUAMOUS REGION: Ingredients to provide additional coating to support the mucosa lining. Addition of compatible fibre can then activate itself on the mat to support against the loss of its integrity when dietary stress can break the layer down to expose the acidic compound of the glandular region.

SMALL INTESTINE: Walls and villi need to be in good health to ensure the uptake of nutrients, ingredients can help maximise surface area while aiding wall strength and villi elasticity.

HINDGUT: Strong PRE, PRO and POST Biotics can help rebuild the hindgut environment,

with prebiotics essentially providing a source of food for the probiotics to grow existing members and recolonise new populations. Additional support such as ingredients capable of clearing unwanted items from the gastrointestinal tract will help to keep it clean, healthy and fit for function.

Team Tutsham

Not your average riding school Team Tutsham - Need your help!

For those of you who don’t know who Team Tutsham are then let us introduce you.

Team Tutsham is unique in that it is a registered charity but also an award winning riding school, local to us at Lillico in Aylesford.

They predominantly work to support vulnerable children and young adults through their ponies. These beautiful animals are well known to have a therapeutic effect which goes way deeper than just riding.

Team Tutsham teach important life skills that can be taken with them into adulthood and have supported many young adult with securing a place at college or a work placement. Working together as a team underpins everything they do, that means communication, support, empathy and encouragement are all fundamental skills they learn.

The children that come to Team Tutsham come from a wide range of backgrounds, many from within the care system, each having their own unique challenges. They have noticed a greater number of children suffering with stress and anxiety since Covid, as well as disorders such ASD and ADHD. They also support physical disabilities working alongside the local Special Needs School, Five Acre Wood, as well as adults from within the supported living setting.

Unfortunately, there is a very long waiting list to attend “Saddle Club” so they are always looking at ways to open opportunities to children whilst they are waiting. They offer Pony Experiences during the school holiday's which is a great introduction to riding. A chance to groom the ponies before a hack around the farm. Pony Parties are also popular held during the warmer months. For those who have their own horses, they are running a clear round showjumping event once a month starting in April through till August. These are all fundraisers to help support them to keep doing what they love to do - see the children grow in confidence and flourish not only with their riding, but with their personal goals too.

Winners of the Equestrian Business Awards “Riding School of the Year 2021”, recognised for the work they are doing, they rely heavily on fundraising and donations. They would love to be able to support more children so if you are a local business that would like to help with sponsorship, please get in touch with them. CelebrateNATIONAL CAT DAY withus!

When is National Cat Day?

National Cat Day is celebrated annually on the 8th August.

What is the history behind the day?

It was created in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare. It is a day to raise awareness for cats and learn about ways to help and protect them.

How can I help?

If you are looking for a furry friend to join you, explore the option of adopting a Cat. Donate to Your Local Shelter. Volunteer at Your Local Shelter. Shelter cats need love too.

If you already have a furry friend you can also celebrate by trying out our cat friendly no-bake salmon balls!

No-bake salmon balls! - try these at home with your furry friends and send us in a picture!

Ingredients:

1 can of cooked salmon in spring water

1 cup dry cat food

Mayonnaise

Method:

1. To make these healthy cat treats, drain your can of salmon and spread the flakes out onto a plate.

2. Crush the dry cat food in a pestle and mortar. Add a splash of water and leave to sit for around 10 minutes or until they’ve softened. Make sure you’re cautious when adding water - you’ll need to form these into balls later!

3. Combine the biscuits with the fish, adding just a touch of mayonnaise (unless your kitty is lactose intolerant), and form into balls.

4. Refrigerate until they’ve set, and there you have it - a batch of soft cat treats perfect for kitties with sore gums or simply those who detest the crunch! Make sure you’re sparing with these as mayonnaise may affect your kitty’sstomach.

AUGUST 8TH

- Pet Physio -

From Melanie at Bluebell Vet Physio

"I have an absolute passion for all things ‘health’ in both animals and humans. It is my mission to educate people to help them lead healthier, better and longer lives but also to be better pet parents to also improve, optimise and maintain their pets physical health too. Although this article is primarily talking about dogs, much will apply to other small furries as well.

Many of the health related things that I often discuss with ‘hoomans’ equally applies to our fur babies. Things such as healthy nutrition, the right type and amount of exercise and not too much screen time – yes, I’ve seen my dog watching TV, haven’t you!?"

Weight

We all know that being a bit overweight and inactive is detrimental to our health and this absolutely applies to our furry family too. The question is, do you know if you pet is in the correct weight range that they should be? When is the last time that you weighed them? Have you ever even weighed them?

Treats

I’m sure these are often more for the benefit of pet parents rather than the pets themselves! However, treats are fine in moderation – for both humans and pets - but as you hopefully do for yourself, try to think of healthier alternatives.

Tip: Many dogs like raw carrot, but you could have a look for some healthy pet treat recipes that you could make for any small animal. Remember to experiment and do a taste test, as pets are like us and they have their likes and dislikes. Be on the lookout to ensure others are not giving sneaky treats that you don’t account for, especially at meal times (you know who you are if you do this!).

Exercise

Don’t make sudden changes. Start or change gradually and get your Vet or VetPhysio’s advice if your pet is unfit, overweight, has any pre-existing health issues or is recovering from an injury, surgery or illness. Regularity rather than spasmodic wins the day. In our human clinic, we often see people who sit all week at a desk then go and play squash at a weekend and get injured. This is no different to a dog that sleeps much of the time and goes to the park off the lead or for a really long walk at a weekend

Rider physio management tips

Stiff or Wobbly?

Riding is such as great sport, hobby and often lifetime passion that has been enjoyed by people for centuries, but it's not always easy to perfect your skills as a rider. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned equestrian, you may find yourself struggling with balance, strength, or flexibility, all of which can impair your riding ability and even your safety. If you’re stiff or wobbly you’re way more likely to come off, so that's where equestrian physio comes in!

At first, you may think, "Physiotherapy? Isn't that just for people who are injured or in pain?" Well, not exactly. While physiotherapy can certainly help with injuries and pain management, it can also be a great tool for improving your physical ability as a rider. So, how can physio benefit you as a rider? Let's take a closer look:

Nutrition

We all know a very processed diet is pretty bad for us. The occasional indiscretion is ok but as a regular habit we are simply asking for health problems. However, have you stopped to considered that a lot of pet food is HIGHLY PROCESSED and is often not subject to the same rules and controls as human food. Cheap and cheerful is definitely not the way to go.

Tip: Aim for gradual changes and regularity rather than spasmodic bouts of exercise. Consider age and any underlying issues when deciding on an appropriate exercise plan. If in any doubt, seek professional advice rather than putting off exercising pets with physical issues, as inactivity can cause a whole host of other problems.

There’s so much more I could talk about to do with pet health, physio and rehab but I must sign off for now. If you are interested to hear more about this topic, look out for in store talks and events that we will be doing or please just drop me an email and I can send more information. Feel free to ask any pet physio related questions too Melanie@vetphysio.co.uk

In the meantime, thanks for reading and happy dog (and cat?) walking

improved balance:

One of the most important aspects of riding is having good balance. If you're constantly shifting your weight or struggling to stay centred in the saddle, you'll find it difficult to control your horse effectively. An equestrian physio can work with you to improve your balance through exercises that target your core, hips, and legs. With improved balance, you'll be able to stay more secure in the saddle and better communicate with your horse.

Increased Strength:

Riding requires a lot of physical strength, particularly in your legs and core. Without adequate strength (and endurance), you may find yourself tiring quickly or struggling to achieve or maintain the correct position. An equestrian physiotherapist can create a personalised exercise plan that will help you build strength in the specific areas you need it most. As your strength increases, you'll find it easier to maintain the correct riding position and execute movements with greater ease.

Greater Flexibility:

Flexibility is also very important for riders. If you're stiff or inflexible, you may find it difficult to move with your horse or make necessary adjustments when giving signals. An equestrian physiotherapist can work with you to improve your flexibility through stretching exercises and other techniques. With greater flexibility, you'll be able to move more freely in the saddle and respond more effectively to your horse's movements.

In addition, physiotherapy can also help you prevent injuries, manage any pre-existing issues or pain and discomfort you may experience while riding. By addressing any physical limitations or weaknesses you may have, you'll be able to ride with greater confidence and enjoyment. Something I always say that is worth remembering, is that you need to get fit to ride, not ride to get fit! If you're looking to improve your physical ability as a rider, physio can be a fantastic tool to help you achieve your goals. So, the next time you're struggling with maintaining your position, your balance or feeling a little stiff or wobbly in the saddle, consider reaching out to an equestrian physiotherapist before or alongside embarking on lessons. You and your horse will be glad you did!

FARMING: 5 LIVESTOCK TIPS

Summer is an important time for UK livestock farmers, as the warm weather and longer days bring new challenges and opportunities for their herds. Proper care and management during this season can make a significant difference in the health and productivity of the animals, as well as the profitability of the farm. Here are some tips for UK livestock farmers to keep their herds healthy and happy during the summer months.

MAINTAIN PASTURE QUALITY:

Grass growth typically peaks in the summer, providing plenty of forage for livestock. However, it's important to maintain pasture quality to ensure that animals are getting the nutrients they need. Regularly rotate grazing areas to prevent overgrazing, and consider fertilising and reseeding as needed.

MONITOR FOR PARASITES:

PROVIDE SHADE:

Livestock can suffer from heat stress, which can lead to reduced feed intake, weight loss, and even death. Providing shaded areas for your animals to rest can help reduce their exposure to direct sunlight and heat. Trees, shelters, and shade cloths are all effective ways to provide shade for livestock.

ADJUST FEEDING SCHEDULES:

The summer heat can also affect the feed intake of livestock. Consider adjusting feeding schedules to early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. This can help ensure that animals are eating enough to maintain their health and weight.

Parasites such as flies and ticks thrive in warm weather and can cause health problems for livestock. Implement a parasite control program that includes regular inspections and treatments as needed. This can help keep your animals healthy and productive throughout the summer.

STAY VIGILANT FOR SIGNS OF ILLNESS:

Hot weather can also increase the risk of illness in livestock, such as heat stress, dehydration, and respiratory infections. Stay vigilant for signs of illness, such as lethargy, loss of appetite, or difficulty breathing, and contact a veterinarian if you suspect a problem.

...And don't forget to ensure access to clean water and make sure your animals are cool due to livestock being less efficient at regulating their body temperatures than humans.

In conclusion, summer can be a challenging but rewarding season for UK livestock farmers. By following these tips, you can help ensure the health and wellbeing of your animals, as well as the success of your farm.

A guide to treating...

As pet parents we love to spoil our pets, but when it comes to our small animals, you can have too much of good thing. Pets like rabbits, Guinea pigs, chinchillas and degus all have specialised digestive systems, so compared to most of our other pets they need a diet higher in fibre and much lower in protein, fat and sugars. We now refer to these pets as fibrevores. Even the omnivores - like hamsters - still need to be given careful consideration when treating, due to their small size.

At Lillico Attlee we offer over 40 different treats from the Rosewood Naturals brand. This means there should be something for everyone, but the one thing about them all is that they only use natural ingredients – so no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives and no added sugars.

The most important consideration when treating is portion control –larger sticks have traditionally been the most popular type of treat, but they are usually too big for one sitting. Instead, it’s best to add and remove each day, so one stick lasts over a few days or even a week. Or try their Naturals Snap and Share Bar or one-a-day Luxury Mini Bars. There are also mini treats in various fun shapes such as their Apple and Strawberry Bunnies which can be fed by hand, with just one or two per pet, per day. Ensuring they never over-indulge!

The next thing to consider is how healthy the treats are, for just as with treats for ourselves and our other pets, it’s the case that some small animal

treats are healthier than others. The Naturals brand was the first to introduce the concept of herbal salads to the UK. These, such as Summer Harvest, are bags of dried herbs and flowers. They are rich in beneficial micro-nutrients, are higher in fibre and lower in natural sugars and oils, so are ideal for rabbits, Guinea pigs, chinchillas and degus. They are especially good for adding to and enriching hay, which also encourages beneficial foraging.

Beyond these then most other treats have traditionally been based on cereals or grains. These are loved by most pets but are more energy-rich and can lack fibre and the wider variety of micro-nutrients found in veggies, herbs and some seeds. So, whilst the Naturals brand do use some grains in certain treats, it simply means these need to be fed in moderation, especially if the main diet you are feeding also contains grains - which most still do. However, the Naturals brand was also the first to introduce the concept of grain-free treats. So, we have treats like their Breakfast Cookies and Herb ‘n’ Veg Drops.

Finally, treating should ideally be about enrichment: challenging your pet, making them work for their treat. When the treat is harder to eat it can be more stimulating for your pet and helps with portion control . The Naturals range is full of treats like this, as well as their signature hay-coated Hay ‘n’ Hide tunnels and Carrot Cottages – which pets love to shelter and play in, but also spend days trying to nibble the hay off!

Happy Treating!

SYCAMORE POISONING SPRING ALERT!

Sycamore Poisoning , or Atypical Myopathy, is a rapid onset, severe and often fatal muscle disease caused by the ingestion of a toxin called Hypoglycin A, contained in Sycamore seeds, leaves or seedlings. Whilst we often talk about this in Autumn, when the helicopter-like seed structures (samaras) disperse over wide areas contaminating pasture, we also need to be aware of contamination of paddocks with germinating seedlings and young saplings in the Spring. Hypoglycin A slows or stops energy production in muscle and heart. Some horses appear to be more susceptible that others, perhaps due to genetic differences.

Clinical signs include:

· General weakness; horses can struggle to stand, walk and breathe

· Depression with low hanging head

· Muscle trembling

· Signs of severe colic

· Brown or dark red urine

· Sweating

· High heart rate

· Recumbency

· Usually still want to eat

If your horse is found at pasture with any of these symptoms, veterinary advice must be sought immediately. Diagnosis requires a variety of tests. Emergency treatment is frequently started prior to confirmatory diagnosis. We would frequently admit horses to the clinic for intensive care including fluid therapy, analgesia, special feeding, including vitamins and carnitine, and oxygen therapy.

A high mortality rate of 61% has been reported in the UK and more recently, in South East England, a mortality rate of 44%.

Helpful preventative measures include:

· Provide supplementary forage during Autumn

· Clear fallen Sycamore leaves and seeds from grazing areas in Autumn/Winter

· Check neighbouring areas for high risk plants/seeds

· Test for presence of HGA in your own horse’s pasture

· In 64% of AM cases, pasture had minimal grazing, so ensure good pasture management to reduce risk

· Decaying seedlings conserve HGA and are still toxic to horses after mowing or herbicidal treatment

· Grass may become contaminated with HGA when in contact with cut seedlings

· Neither mowing nor herbicidal sprays are effective at removing the HGA content of Sycamore seedlings in Spring posing a risk to your horse. Ideally, saplings and seedlings should be pulled up by hand and disposed of.

· This Spring, if seedlings are spotted in an area where your horse grazes, remove horses from the pasture immediately, by bringing them in or fencing off the affected area.

Meet Wilbur, Lillico's New Mascot

Lets hear from Kirsty, the teacher from Rochester Class

Medway Green School is a provision for students with a wide range of social, emotional and mental health needs, including autistic spectrum conditions. Our team is passionate about giving disadvantaged and vulnerable children far more than the educational basics. We want every child to feel that Medway Green is a school full of discovery and opportunity, where they can find out what’s possible and where life could take them. By tailoring our curriculum to the requirements of each child and taking a creative approach to learning, we aim to nurture our students, always treating them as individuals with needs of their own.

Work organic fertiliser into your soil.

Add compost made from food scraps. Water regularly and consider installing an irrigation drip system.

In Rochester Class we noticed the children’s love for animals and started to brain storm ideas about how we could incorporate their love for animals in their learning. After a short while, along came Wilbur, Rochester Class’s Therapy hamster! Wilbur has worked wonders for the children emotionally as well as helping them with their academic work. Rochester Class used to struggle with silent reading, Wilbur has changed that completely, with Wilbur patrolling the classroom in his ball, watching the children read they sit quietly and engage in their reading. Wilbur is also very helpful when a child is struggling to stay in their seat, the child will take Wilbur to their desk and take responsibility for him there. Wilbur has brought comfort to Rochester class and helps the children in many ways.

Exclusive Top Tips on Nail Clipping

From our Dog Groomer, Beth

I think it is safe to say, clipping dog nails isn’t a favoured pastime of owners, or dogs themselves – but it is necessary.

If frequently out and about on hard surfaces, dogs will naturally wear their nails down. However for the majority, exercise will be on soft surfaces; grass and woodland ground. If this is the case, you will need to adopt the role of the hard surfaces and help with nail maintenance!

Top Fact

Dogs have claws. A nail is flat and doesn't come to a point. If the nail is thick enough to bear weight - it is a hoof!

It is possible other ailments could stem from long nails. If nails are constantly touching the ground, even when in a relaxed standing position, the nail bed can push into the toe joint; liken it to you wearing a shoe a size too small! If this continues over a period of time, the foot will become flattened and splayed, which could lead to a chain reaction; affect the alignment of joints and compromise weight distribution which in turn could lead to an increase in injuries. Not to mention making walking difficult and painful and your dog preferring not to exercise.

There is also the possibility of overground nails being more liable to tearing and splitting, and possibly curving into the foot pad. These instances could not only be painful for the dog but involve a vet trip, and painful to your bank balance!

I often hear how dogs are not keen for their nails to be trimmed but have you ever thought why?

Have you heard the saying ‘cut to the quick / kwik’? The quick is a nerve and vein that runs through the nail. If caught, it can bleed quite profusely and will be uncomfortable for a moment, similar to us ripping a nail. There are products to help promote the blood clotting – Trimmix and potassium manganese which acts as a drying agent - but you can also use potato / corn starch or flour. However, the best option is to not catch it!

In the salon, I do use both nail trimmers and a grinder. The trimmers will remove the most part and the grinder will then enable me to get closer to the quick without cutting it. However, be aware the density of a Chihuahua’s nails is different to those of a Labrador so choose your tools carefully.

Top Tip

Place the trimmers flat along the bottom of the foot pad. As a general rule, any overhang of this plane can be removed.

As a general rule of thumb (nail!), if you can hear your dog’s nails, chances are they are getting long. Although, the natural rotation of the foot will make for nails to tip tap to a certain degree. Take a look, armed with a business / credit card – can you slide it underneath when the dog is in a relaxed standing position?

Top Tip

If you have just bathed your dog, or washed their feet after a walk, take the opportunity of softer nails and trim them.

If you have a dog with white nails, you can see the quick from the side, a pinkcoloured shadow – especially if you shine light from the back If the nails are black, it isn’t quite so easy. I would suggest you trim a little at a time and when you see a black dot in the nail –see photo - stop. The black dot is the start of the quick.

If the nails are long, it could take a few months to shorten the nails, but if you trim them weekly, the quicks will recede allowing for nails to be taken back shorter and making for pain-free exercise for the dog. The more a dog exercises on a hard surface, the more their nails will wear down naturally.

To help with cutting nails, be prepared and I would suggest seek assistance. One can trim the nails whilst the other holds the dog.

Choose a location with good light

Have to hand the trimmers / grinders

Have lots of treats, including a lickimat full of dog-friendly peanut butter or cream cheese

A damp cloth

Clotting agent

Be conservative with your clipping. Think of the long-term and maintaining your dog’s nails throughout their life. It is better to take off slithers of nail and not cut the quick.

HOW TO GET MY HORSE TO DRINK WATER

MAINTAINING HYDRATION

The old adage is accurate: “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.” That’s especially true for severely dehydrated horses in need of urgent veterinary intervention. But there are ways to keep your horse well-hydrated from the start and avoid these potentially dangerous scenarios.

First, provide fresh, clean water in clean troughs or buckets at all times. Check frequently for dirt, debris, manure, dead animals, or other contaminants. Scrubbing dirty troughs and buckets and refilling them is part of the nittygritty of horse keeping–don’t overlook this important first step.

TEMPERATURE

Horses adapt to cold and hot ambient temperatures and changes in water intake are part of this adaptive process. In cold weather horses drink less water, especially if the water is ice cold. Research has shown that water intake can reduce by 6-14% when temperatures are very low. To avoid issues such as impaction colic, warm up the water in the wintertime by regularly adding hot water.

The Saracen Horse Feeds RE-COVERY Mash has been formulated to tick both boxes with regards to a way of increasing water intake as well as stimulating the thirst response. Formulated on a blend of ’Super-Fibres’, known for their superior digestibility and provision of non-heating calories, the banana flavoured RE-COVERY Mash can be fed as and when needed, alongside any diet because no vitamins or minerals have been added. Drenched in water, ideally with water sitting on top of the feed, the horse is encouraged to drink the fluid before eating the mash which includes a source of electrolytes to help stimulate the thirst response after exertion, training and travelling as well as during the change of season. Saracen RE-COVERY Mash will take 5-10 minutes to soak in warm water or 10 minutes in cold water and should be fed immediately, ideally before travelling home after competing.

In conclusion, it’s easy to keep your horse hydrated if you follow some simple steps: provide plenty of clean fresh water, ensure horses' diets meet their sodium requirements, and use Saracen RECOVERY Mash strategically to support your horse’s hydration when necessary.
