Sustainable Community Pledge If I am elected to municipal office, I pledge to: 1. Make healthy watersheds and the protection of lake water quality a priority, and act to: • reduce phosphorus in our lakes • protect natural shorelines and encourage natural shoreline buffers 2. Make clean air and reduced carbon emissions a priority, and act to: • reduce idling in our community • support green energy and green jobs 3. Make active transportation and public transit a priority, and act to: • implement the Sustainable Mobility Plan and the Bicycle Master Plan • increase transit ridership 4. Make green spaces, trails, and parks a priority, and act to: • implement the Final Report of the Green Space Advisory Panel • expand the trail system, including the ‘Connect the Creek’ project 5. Make local food and agriculture a priority, and act to: • support local farmers and local food • protect healthy soil If I am elected to municipal office, I pledge to have due regard for community sustainability and citizen engagement in my actions and decisions as a member of City Council, and to work towards the goal of sustainable development through the four pillars of the healthy community strategy: active living/healthy lifestyle, natural environment, civic engagement/social capital, and economic growth.
