GUIDING LIGHT Lightbox Lawrence, KS Anne Patterson 1st Year, 1st Semester P R O J E C T S U M M A R Y: A slight purposefulness of bringing views and objectives into designs is an important object of architecture. This project creates a space that modulates light, blurring the line between object and space. Providing a space where the creator itself can visualize them in the space is a key concept of this project. KEY LEARNING O U T C O M E: Learning that every line, space, and curve has a purpose is something that was highly drawn. It gives a more inviting feel to the space while also giving functionality to every piece.

HABITAT FOR ALL ArchiPOD Lawrence, KS Anne Patterson 1st Year, 2nd Semester P R O J E C T S U M M A R Y: Creating a small space with all key rooms is not an easy feat. But adding it on a high sloped area adds character. Shaping and providing a natural habitat for quarantined international architecture students is the key element here, while adding in as much natural light and views of the outside. When the pods were multiplied, letting all the pods have the views of the horizon but still having privacy was significant, placing them on the same contour line is an important component. KEY LEARNING O U T C O M E: The aspects of this 8 walled octagon living area are all looked at. The approach, gathering areas, and privacy is important as much as the layout of the 400 square foot habitat. Learning the importance of surrounding structures and vegetation can help a lot to the design, drawing in many inspirations.

INCLUSION CENTER Community Learning Center Lawrence, KS Thom Allen 2nd Year, 1st Semester P R O J E C T S U M M A R Y: The north area of Lawrence, KS lacks the resources and spaces to learn through technology and the support community gives. Through this structure, the addition of classrooms, audio and media center, robotics lab, and shop are included to support further learning. This structure is resourceful, collaborative, and works well with forces of the land to welcome all ideas and conversations. Not only does this community accept this group effort of a structure, it offers many amenities and concepts that are already built into the site, creating an idealistic area and project. KEY LEARNING O U T C O M E: The aspects included within the project that are highly focused on are daylighting and the circulation throughout the structure and the site. Focusing on these qualities can be daunting, but the result gives all visitors a pleasant and thoughtful pass through.

A VISUAL SENSE Heritage Trail Center Kansas City, KS Shannon Criss 2nd Year, 2nd Semester P R O J E C T S U M M A R Y: This community center enhances the art cultural area that is within the surrounding KCK neighborhood. It also satisfies the current lack of places to gather to grow and develop the art talent that is possible in children and adults. Its main purpose is to allow people from all backgrounds within this area while also adhering to the problematic industrial surrounding area. KEY LEARNING O U T C O M E: Through this project, the availability of providing easy spaces for culture to flower can be very simple. Looking at the neighborhood and researching the context gives opportunities to exercise empathy while also providing well-rounded resources to all.

With the courtyard being in the middle of the structure facing north, the sun is directly on the right wing windows and the left wing courtyard facing windows. Permanent and movable louvers were placed in those windows to give reprieve if needed and optimal views if wanted.
