If we have met and dealt with those problems in a spirit of confidence -if we have cause, as we feel we have, to look with pride at what we have accomplishod-it has been very largely due to the fact that we have had the loyal, courageous and intelligent cooperation of our membership, their sympathetic understanding, and their readiness to help at all times. I cannot pass this opportunity of mentioning several of those members wr.o so wil :ingly helred . Among them are Sol Kokol, S. Levine, J. Milstein, A. Kushman , H. Goodman: S. Beker. J. Rosenfeld, L. Bedell, L. Kokol, J . Skobo!ow, J. MuroH, Benj. N. Spevack, J. Steinberg, S. Ehrlich and 0'; hers tao numerous to mention.

In the service that our Committee is called upon to render we are frequently confronted with problems which we know are of great significance to the future of our organization and the welfare of its membersh ip, The feeling that what we may do, or fail to do , may effect, favorably or unfavorab ly, the interests of many of our fellow members, makes us doubly conscious of the responsibilities with which we have been entrusted.

Thirty years ago there were but a handful of Berezner people who stood and acted as one family, longing for their birthplace, and it was then decided to form a society and keep their dreams, hopes and memories together. It was discussed having meetings every two weeks under a temporary chairman, who was our own brother Morris Seid. On July 22, 1906, in the home of Barney Ehrlich , the fOII~'ng people met:-Wolf Shindel, Morris " am ar . oseph Milstein, Chaim Kooperberg, Michael Kokol, C arlie Barishmarrl, aim Saltzman and Jacob Meyers an' hat our re lety was formed with the following officers eleded: . Wolf Shindel ____ __ ____ ____ ____ President ... n____ __ Fin. Secretary Sam Ehrlich~~ ______________ .T reasurer Chaim Saltzman. __ __ .Prot. Secretary Our meetings were held at the hom ~f Barney Ehrlic.hJwith whole-hearted co-operation from Mrs. Pearl Ehrlich, for quite a while, until we outgrew our accommodations and we were happy in opening our first Lodge Rooms at 82 Clinton Street, New York. Things went along smoothly for but a very short time. Members were losing faith, getting lonely and lacked support - leaving us rather in a role . Different opinions and ideas arised, but we held out to continue keeping Society as it was originally intended at the start. The few of egan a drive w members and with our new group of 60 we moy d to McKibben Street. ere we found our members were, as we w lcf-s~t membe- aying dues, but not attending meetings. was then that we made our third move, this time to 100 Essex Street, New York City. Here again things went from hot to cold and from cold to hot, but with the faithful support of Brothers Shendel, Saltzman, Kokol, MuroH, Milstein, Seid, Ehrlich , Rosenfeld, Spedor, Beidel and a few others, we maintained and upheld a true lodge feeling with the sincere efforts of the above mentioned brothers. Through the undying and continuous support and effort of our Brother Morris Seid , members of high intellectual status joined our beloved brotherhood and among these members were Harry Friedman, Morris Weiss, Jacob Richman, Jacob Umans, Morris Altshul, etc. With this task completed, Sick Benefit was officially passed upon with a membership of 150. But things were destined to fall behind . Of these new members , a few decided and fought to change the name of Berezner to one of their liking. Our brothers Wolf, Shindel and Morris Seid (who nominat~d~Jhe protesting group) fought consistently, tooth and nail, to defeat these brothers and their efforts were not in vain. The result being that this group washed their hands of the Society and left. In 1916, under the Presidency of Harry Duskin, a Chinach Hagador for the cemetery was decided on and Wolf Shindel was chairman. A committee was appointed under him to carry out the details necessary for this work. Spaces were bo ught for names ~o be written on this gate. [3rother Morr~~civecJ first spaCE> as a result of his contribution, amo~i1TgTO $215.00. Brother~hrlich (Olib Hasholem) gave $1 00.00 . ~ther Louis Kokol gave $98.00 other donations varied. The profit fi n~d arr;~ted to $~0 3 .OJ.
