MANAGER’S NOTES Good afternoon and welcome back to the Fairgreen for today’s match against Cobh Ramblers in the Under-19 Southern Elite Division. We welcome the management team, players and all who have travelled up from Cobh for what is sure to be another competitive fixture in this league. We have found nothing easy; every team is capable of beating each other and there are only 14 points separating top and bottom as we reach the halfway stage. Last Saturday, we were pleased to come away with three points after falling behind to Salthill Devon in Drom. We scored two good goals in what was a good overall performance. It’s a hard place to go to and they will give a lot of teams problems there. We were on top early on and James Duggan had a chance to score but the ‘keeper pulled off a good save. We got a corner from that but they went up and scored. They were set up for the counterattack and they were hard to break down. In fairness, they played some good football as well. It was a good game. Ross Mann got us back in it before half-time. In the second half, we were dominant but we could have been caught a few times on the break too. We had a couple of chances and then Killian Brouder lost his marker and finished well. It was great for him to be back in the team. He has three years at this level. Three of the back five were 16-year-olds, we had one 17-year-old and Conor Maguire was the only 18-year-old. We only had three 18-year-olds in the whole squad, so that’s a pleasing aspect. I keep saying it but we are very young and we have to be happy with 17 points after nine games. I think we deserved the win on Saturday. In fairness, Salthill never gave up
and put on some pressure at the end but we coped well with it. I don’t think many teams are doing what we’re doing. That was the first time I only used four substitutes but I’ve used five in every other game, we’ve changed the team every single week and we’ve been getting results. Overall, I’m happy with how it’s going. We’ve only lost two games. In this division, as I said, anyone can beat anyone. It’s tight and that’s the way the Elite Division has been in previous seasons. I think we’ll stick with the same approach. We’ve got a good squad and I trust them so why not use them. Today is another tough game. Cobh have been doing well; they are defensively solid. They are just five points behind us and recently knocked Waterford United – who are top of the league – out of the Cup and they also drew with them last weekend. But hopefully we can put in a good performance and come out with another positive result. Enjoy the game, Tommy Barrett.

LAST TIME OUT: BROUDER BREAKS DEVON HEARTS Defender completes comeback in Galway Returning Killian Brouder’s 74th-minute header saw Limerick back to winning ways as they edged to a 2-1 victory over Salthill Devon in the Under-19 Southern Elite Division at Drom last Saturday afternoon. The young Superblues – having lost their previous outing to Shamrock Rovers – started well and would have been in front on 25 minutes only for a good save from the home ‘keeper who denied James Duggan well in a one-on-one. But it was from that resulting corner that came the breakthrough for Salthill, who broke at pace on the counterattack and punished Limerick with a clinical effort. Tommy Barrett’s side recovered from that setback just before the break through a good move out from the back, with Val Feeney’s ball over the top well controlled by Ross Mann who produced a fine left-footed finish to the bottom corner. That gave Limerick the impetus to push on after halftime but Salthill still posed a live threat. In control of possession, the visitors had chances to hit the front through Mann and substitute Shane Lowth. But it was left to centre-half Brouder – making his comeback from injury – to claim all three points as he rose at the back post to meet a Feeney corner and planted a powerful header past the ‘keeper. Salthill attempted to respond in the closing minutes but third-placed Limerick – with three 16-year-olds in their back five – remained
solid to claim a valuable victory which moved them to within four points of leaders Waterford United, who were held scoreless in Cobh. Limerick: Tommy Holland, Stephen Nolan, Killian Brouder, Conor Maguire, Eoin Whelan, Ross Fitzgerald (Declan Cusack 60), Mark Hoban (Clyde O’Connell HT), Val Feeney, Oisin Kelly (Evan Cusack 60), Ross Mann, James Duggan (Shane Lowth 55). Unused Subs: Arak Manala (GK), Liam McCartan, Jack Lynch. Also last Saturday, John Grehan’s Under-16s went into their top-of-the-table clash with Mungret Regional at Hogan Park chasing a perfect ten in all competitions and they claimed it on a 2-1 scoreline. That was thanks to first-half efforts from Brandon Murphy and Dave Sweeney. The victory moves them five points clear at the summit of the Premier League. In the top flight at Under-12 level, Barry Lynch’s youngsters made it three wins from three and six from six in all competitions after a 3-0 success over Caherdavin Celtic at Greenhills. The goals came from Samir Attanda, Jeffrey Dore and Andrei Haxhiaj, easing them to a comfortable win which sees them share 100 percent records in the division alongside Pike Rovers and Mungret Regional, who both have five victories. Elsewhere, the Under-14s were out of luck in the Premier League but won in Division One, while the Under-10s lost in the Blues Division.

CHAIRMAN’S NOTES Good afternoon and welcome to today’s game in the Southern Elite Division of the Under-19 League. I wish to welcome Cobh Ramblers, their staff and players to Limerick for today’s fixture and wish them every success in the season ahead. As always, I wish to thank Fairview Rangers AFC and all their staff for their kind welcome and superb playing facilities. Last Saturday, the lads showed great battling qualities to overcome the concession of an early goal to emerge with a 2-1 victory over Salthill Devon. Bouncing back from the previous week’s defeat by Shamrock Rovers was important and credit must go to Tommy Barrett for instilling a never-say-die attitude in his squad. The representative recognition keeps coming for our underage players and I was delighted that four of today’s panel recently received call-ups for trials for the Irish Schools International panel. Seán McSweeney, Paudie O’Connor, Killian Brouder and Stephen Nolan travelled to Salthill for a friendly game last Wednesday night and I’m sure the experience was hugely beneficial to their development as players.
On the senior side of things, Rory Gaffney this week signed for Cambridge United and I want to wish him every success in the future. Rory is a highly-professional and hard-working young man and his move should serve as inspiration to our younger players who have aspirations of playing cross-channel. Some people who sometimes get lost in the development of young players are the parents and siblings so I would like to take an opportunity to pay tribute to all the parents who travel week-in week-out to home and away games to support their children and the team. From our Baby Blues all the way up to Under-19 team on show today, we have huge support from the players’ families. There is nothing more empowering for a young man than to see his family on the sideline cheering him on and I genuinely want to thank you for your continued support. As always, I would like to acknowledge all our fans who have made the effort to come out this afternoon and look forward to your continued attendance throughout the season. Thanks again for your support and enjoy the game. Pat O’Sullivan.
