MANAGER’S NOTES Good afternoon and welcome back to the Fairgreen for today’s visit of leaders Waterford United in the Under-19 Southern Elite Division. We extend a warm welcome to the Waterford management team, players and all those who have made the trip across for what should be another highly-competitive match. While we are in Cup action next weekend, this afternoon is our final league outing before the Christmas break and we will be looking to finish on a positive note going into that. In the end, last week’s result against Cobh Ramblers was disappointing with the way we conceded two late goals. But I thought it was a good performance. The boys played very well and I think we should have been three or four goals up probably before Cobh scored. We got punished in the last few minutes, which can happen sometimes. It’s a lesson learned. We still got a point. We had a very young team out and we had five changes made again at that stage. We’ll move on from that and we’ll have to put it behind us quickly as we entertain the current leaders today. They are all big games; there is no-one easy to beat in this league as you can see every week. Anyone can beat anyone. Waterford are still unbeaten at this stage and only exited the Cup on penalties, so we know it will be a very difficult test for us. But we won’t be easy for anyone. They won’t like coming here. We might change it up again. We’ve changed it every week so far so we’ll see how we go. We faced Waterford on the opening day of the season, in what was a very entertaining no-score draw. We have watched them a couple of times since and not much has changed. We did well down there; the game could have gone either way, they could have

won it, we could have won it. They have a lot of experienced lads that played in the First Division and they’re a good side. Our aim this year is to finish in the top four and I think we’ll be doing very well if we can achieve that. If we can, we’ll be more than happy. It would be a good season for us. You want to win every game and it’s disappointing, like last week, where you don’t win ones that you should have won. We’re going to play bad, we’re going to have poor performances and probably deserve to lose. But when you play very well and you’re the much better team, it’s hard to take losing two points like that. But we didn’t lose – we got a point in the bag and hopefully today we can put in another good performance and get the result we deserve. Enjoy the game, Tommy Barrett.

CHAIRMAN’S NOTES Good afternoon and welcome to today’s game in the Under-19 Southern Elite Division. I wish to welcome Waterford United, their staff and players to Limerick for today’s fixture and wish them every success in the season ahead. As always, I wish to thank Fairview Rangers AFC and all their staff for their kind welcome and superb playing facilities. Last Saturday, two late goals from Cobh Ramblers left us with only a point to show from a game we dominated but the lads can’t be questioned for the effort they put in. On another day they could have won comfortably given the number of chances they created but a draw is still a positive result to take into this game with a very strong Waterford team. We now have launched Season Tickets for the Markets Field next season and I would encourage our fans to support us by getting their Season Tickets early. There is a special

discount for anyone who gets their tickets before Christmas and once again we have the best value Season Tickets in the league. Off the field, we are now close to submitting our plans for our training centre in Bruff which is the single biggest development this club will ever undertake. We met with local residents last week to inform them of our plans and we hope to receive a favourable decision on planning early in the New Year which will allow us commence work. The plans will be posted on our website for all those interested and I’m sure you will agree that what we have planned will make us the envy of clubs across the country and allow us to further develop our young players for careers in the Premier Division. As always, I would like to acknowledge all our fans who have made the effort to come out this afternoon and look forward to your continued attendance throughout the season.

LAST TIME OUT: LATE, LATE SHOW DENIES LIMERICK Cobh complete dramatic comeback at the death A late, late show from Cobh Ramblers saw them nick a point as Limerick surrendered a two-goal lead in a dramatic finale in the Southern Elite Division at the Fairgreen last Saturday afternoon. Limerick made all the early running and they went close on nine minutes when Val Feeney’s corner to the back post was met by Killian Brouder but he headed off target. Moments later, Feeney’s set-piece delivery to the back this time found fellow centre-half Conor Maguire and his effort was bound for the bottom corner but Stephen Christopher was in the right place to clear off the line. Ross Mann then put the visiting ‘keeper under pressure, getting his head to the ball first but it went over the bar. At the other end, Christopher drilled a shot just over from the edge of the box. On 21 minutes, Evan Cusack’s cross was headed wide by Mann before Feeney curled over a free-kick from a promising position. Then Cobh captain George Gill went close with a header and O’Connor also had an effort but the sides went in scoreless. Ten minutes into the second half, Limerick were given the perfect opportunity to open the scoring as Kevin McNally took out James Duggan in the box. Up stood captain Feeney but his spot-kick was saved and he directed his follow-up wide. Cobh’s first real effort of the half came on 62 minutes when Daniel Barry’s 20-yard free-kick drift-

ed wide. And soon, Limerick hit the front, Eoin Whelan finding Duggan in the box and he controlled well before rocketing an unstoppable shot past Daly. It was almost 2-0 when a superb free-kick delivery from Feeney was onto the head of Maguire but his effort agonisingly came back off the post. Cobh then threatened through Ryan Goldsmith’s cross but Maguire defended well with Barry waiting to pounce. On 77 minutes, centre-half Paudie O’Connor made his long-awaited return to action following injury. And the hosts’ advantage was then doubled when – seconds after Tommy Holland saved a Christopher free-kick – sub Liam McCartan did well to get to the ball ahead of Eoghan Daly and he finished well from close in. The points looked secured but Goldsmith pulled one back with a low strike from inside the box on 85 minutes. And – after Paudie’s header was saved on the line – Cobh dramatically found a leveller five minutes into injury-time. The initial strike hit the post and Limerick looked to have survived the scare but Cobh regained possession and sent in a cross for Dave O’Connor who headed clinically to the corner of the net from tenyards. Limerick: Tommy Holland, Stephen Nolan, Conor Maguire, Killian Brouder, Eoin Whelan, Ross Mann, Mark Hoban, Val Feeney ©, Clyde O’Connell, Evan Cusack, James Duggan. Subs: Liam McCartan, Declan Cusack, Shane Lowth, Jack Lynch, Paudie O’Connor. Unused Subs: Arak Manala (GK), Ross Fitzgerald.
