Back in 1973 when I took my GCE “O” Level examinations, the results were published in the New Nation newspaper.

You had your name and the number of subjects passed being reported. So you know how your classmates did for the examinations.

In that year, 22,978 students sat for the examinations and 91% of the students were awarded certificates.

40 years on, schools were not allowed to publicise their students’ academic results, even names of their top students. This is to make a point that achievements of students need not be solely in academic terms. This is to reduce stress on students.
