Favourite Things As a more introductory part of getting to know my work is getting to know me, therefore I have made a collection of some of my favourite things.

Favourite book This play is a dark comedy that captures the sides of family life that are often hidden and it tackles issues with no mercy, but with uncensored wit.
Favourite music I was introduced to this song when I was discovering the band back when I was 15 and I’ve loved it ever since.
next previous Favourite website Geoguessr places you somewhere undescript in the world and you have to guess where you are, and I can spend hours doing so.
Favourite place An old cinema in Chiswick, London that was remade into an antiques shop, and the atmosphere is of another era.
Favourite typeface Limelight, as a fan of old hollywood movies, this typeface has just stuck with me.

London Alphabet
I went around London and found every letter of the alphabet, as a representation of what you see when you live here. I gathered different colours, lettering, and shapes to showcase the diversity of designs.

I chose an old painting by Anthony van Dyck and inserted him into a contemporary scene, so I put a bald man into a barbershop, which can be interpreted as ironic. When I added him to the barbershop I made sure he blended in by adding shadows and creating arm rests from pieces of the image so the man would look natural in the setting. This was quite a simple exercise in masking and achieving a ‘normal’ setting. Read the blog post: https://linajohansengraphics. wordpress.com/2019/09/24/ bald-man-gets-haircut/

Colour Poppins In this image I took advantage of the different blending modes in Photoshop. I used the color blending mode on this old picture of Julie Andrews that happens to be in black and white. I found an image that she appears to be wearing the same clothes in which I sampled and used to recolour the black and white image. What is important to note about this process is that recolouring is difficult to do if the area where you want to place colour is darker than the colour you want to place, because the colour will appear slightly grey. This technique can be fun to try out in case you have old pictures of relatives and you want them to come to life. Retro Illustrations & Mockups In this project I created three retro illustrations by collaging with layer masks in Photoshop. Two of these illustrations I put on mockup products to show their commercial use. I sampled outlined drawings from old sample books and coloured them in with layers of different materials to emulate a comic illustration. In this design I decided to lean more into pop artand give her the iconic Warhol inspired Marilyn Monroe hair. I like to see this as a femme fatale of the 50’s, like Sandy after her makeover in Grease.

This design is using Joan the Riveter, the feminist symbol from the 40-50’s which I felt was a topical design idea when it comes to retro illustrations.

retro
This is the first retro illustration I did, and unlike the one next to it, I made this one as I found new material to use, so the concept is quite ambiguous. It could be interpreted as a dig at women being bad drivers and scaring men, which is a very retro stereotype.

I thought this design would fit on a soda can, or perhaps on a pretentious I.P.A.
page 16
I thought this design would be cool on a beer bottle or a retro inspired soda as well.

Birthplace in Cinema 4D
For this project I experimented with MoText and materials in Cinema 4D. The theme of my poster was where I was born, so I wrote it down in a few different ways on a map of where it is. I used cold toned lighting in my images as Norway is commonly known as a cold country, as well as I used simple typography seen in a lot of Scandinavian design. I chose this next typeface previous because it reminds me of old norwegian culture that I grew up seeing.
Here I decided to play a bit more with shadows and angles to see how it would look on the map, and I like the K kind of landing on the ground.

Animated Gifs During the course of a week, and a bit more, I animated a gif every day in Photoshop. For the live action gifs I found clips online and the ambigous animated gifs I made in Cinema 4D and input in Photoshop. I chose a theme based off of some of my favourite films and chose scenes that would match the same colour scheme.

3D World Magazine Cover
next previous
This project started with the simple sketch, and ended up looking like a professional magazine cover, after some work! The first step was to render an image that fits the subject matter of the magazine issue. I chose to render an image based on squares since I was not very familiar Cinema 4D and did not have the ability to create smooth edges. I then put my render into Illustrator and added all the text for the layout to look the best as possible! London Video Postcard

For this project I went across London and spent my week capturing small snippets of my everyday life in the city – before it was closed. This is a video postcard showing how London can look, from me to you! The video was edited in After Effects and the project gave me the benefit to get familiar with the program, which ended up to be quite easy to use.

Parallax for Fly Emirates This short 10 sec clip is a parallax, made by dividing pieces of an image into layers, masking their backgrounds and animating them. I chose my image, divided it into layers in Photoshop based on the depth in the image, and put the layers into After Effects. I then added the logo for Fly Emirates, a slogan and a fake location in order for it to appear as a travel ad. next previous I chose the location because of the recognition it has gotten because of its annual Desert Race. As the camera is moving towards the mountains the slogan ‘Keep discovering’ appears which I thought was an effective slogan since it is a call to action, tempting with a very exotic location. This was one of the most fun things I have done in my graphic design journey so far. I programmed my own website using the program Brackets and learnt how to do HTML, CSS and how to put my page on the internet with FTP. This is a preview of what the website looks like. It is quite arbitrary in its design but this is my first webpage so I am very pleased. Oxfam Anti-Fast Fashion Poster Design This is a project I did for my Visual Skills module, where I used as many different mediums and programs to create a poster. This poster was an anti-fast fashion poster, because it is in the zeitgeist because of its big contributions to environmental problems. Instead of drawing my desired background or using a photo, I decided to render a snapshot from an 4D world in Cinema 4D. I then mediated the image in Photoshop to look similar in style to my hand drawn pastel boots. In the end I added all of the text in Illustrator. I figured Oxfam would be a suitable client for this poster so I added their logo. I also added facts about the damage of fast fashion to get the point across. I was pretty pleased with this multi-media image as it was a lot of fun and a style I have not tried before.

Vintage Lipstick Ad Update
The annual Graphic Design week dawned upon me and for that, I decided to corrupt a vintage advertisement. I found this poster for the lipstick brand ‘Kiss’ and decided to take a fun spin on it. I worked on this in Photoshop and for the most natural look, makeup-wise, I created layers and made lowered the opacity. This was a fun creative experiment, open to a lot of interpretation.
