Experience Authentic and Immersive Exploration

Over the course of a nearly 20-year alliance, Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic have created meaningful travel experiences that foster a passion for the planet and its people. From the moment you join one of our Arctic expeditions, you access all the resources that stem from this shared legacy of discovery.

Ultimate Polar Expedition Ships

The purpose-built polar ships in the Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic fleet set course for the top of the globe, outfitted with supremely comfortable accommodations and first-rate exploration tools. With a top-tier ice-class rating, each vessel embodies the expertise developed throughout our more than 50 years of exploring these regions. Our powerful yet intimately scaled ships bring you directly— and safely—into the heart of Earth’s icy wildernesses and allow you to experience them in unique and immersive ways.

A Veteran Team

Every member of our staff—from our naturalists, photographers, and expedition leaders to our crew working behind the scenes—is committed to ensuring our guests have an unforgettable experience. Many are veteran polar guides who have worked with us for decades, chosen for their extensive knowledge of subjects like geology, wildlife biology, and life and climate sciences. They, along with the guest speakers who join us on board, give rich context to the landscapes and cultures we encounter ashore.

with Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic

Take Great Photos With the Pros

A National Geographic Photography Expert and a Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic certified photo instructor (CPI) join each voyage to assist travelers with everything from camera settings to composition. Every guest—from iPhone camera users to advanced hobbyists—can stand side by side with top photographers, pick up tips in the field, and return home with the photos of a lifetime. With the complimentary OM System Photo Gear Locker, you can field test new lenses, camera bodies, and more.

In-Depth Undersea Program

As part of our in-depth undersea program, developed in partnership with National Geographic, an undersea specialist uses a high-definition video camera and deploys a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) that allows us to peer through steely polar

waters—up to 1,000 feet beneath the surface. Footage is shared during daily recaps, inviting guests to witness surprising and unexpectedly colorful sea life from the comfort of our ship.

Commitment to Conservation

Sustainability is at the heart of our mission, and you can travel with peace of mind, knowing every voyage gives back to the places we explore through the Lindblad ExpeditionsNational Geographic Fund, dedicated to the preservation of the planet and its habitats. Together with our guests, we have contributed nearly $20 million to protect our oceans, restore marine and coastal habitats, and foster environmental stewardship around the world.

5

Celebrating 50 Years of Arctic Exploration

In 1972, Lindblad Expeditions sailed north of the Arctic Circle for the first time in our history, taking travelers to the icy wilds of the Svalbard archipelago. Since then, our ships have sailed the region far and wide—from the glacier-fed fjords of Greenland to the iceberg-dotted waters of the Northwest Passage—pioneering new routes, investing in science and conservation initaitives, and accumulating knowledge to give our guests the most immersive experience possible at the top of the globe.

After a two-year delay, we are thrilled to commemorate more than 50 years of Arctic expeditions with special offers and a series of celebratory events, set to kick off next spring. Join us as we honor the past and look ahead to the future of Arctic exploration.

6

Commemorative Voyages

The centerpiece of our anniversary celebration is a series of themed commemorative voyages featuring unique programming and expert guest speakers. Explore the impacts of our changing climate on Arctic environments and cultures with geologist and native Greenlander Minik Rosing and National Geographic Photography Expert Jason Williams on our Iceland & Greenland: Edge of the Arctic voyage.

On a voyage geared toward families, we explore Norway’s Fjords & Arctic Svalbard with a team of educators and Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship award winners, as well as National Geographic Photography Expert Erika Larsen. Finally, our Gateway to the Northwest Passage: Greenland & Canada expedition will set off on a themed voyage ‘into the unknown,’ embarking on a true voyage of discovery with National Geographic Expert Wade Davis and National Geographic Photography

Science at Sea

The Visiting Scientist Program, hosted aboard the Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic fleet, invites researchers, conservationists, and National Geographic Explorers to conduct critical fieldbased projects. Our Arctic anniversary celebration is bringing more of these scientists than ever before to the planet's northernmost reaches. Guests traveling with Visiting Scientists are treated to talks on their studies and discoveries and are, on occasion, invited to participate in the scientific process. Upcoming projects in the Arctic include a survey of resident seabird communities, an assessment of ice-binding biomolecules under planetary warming conditions, and more.

Special Offers

In celebration of our Arctic anniversary, travelers can enjoy an air credit of up to $2,000 per person on select 2024 Arctic expeditions. See page 46 for details.

Iceland With the Family: The Ultimate Expedition Experience

Nurturing Young Explorers

Join us on a summer departure of A Circumnavigation of Iceland or Wild Iceland Escape and your kids and teens can participate in an interactive curriculum that teaches young travelers 18 and under how to explore like scientists and tell the stories of their surroundings through photographs, videos, drawings, and more. Throughout their journey, they are led by certified field educators—inspiring mentors who help them connect with nature in a deeper way, sending them home with a newfound passion for the planet that lasts a lifetime.

Exploration for Every Generation

In 2024, we are offering additional departures of A Circumnavigation of Iceland and Wild Iceland Escape to accommodate more multi-generational families. These expeditions have something for everyone: the grade schooler fascinated by Vikings and Icelandic folklore, the teenager or college grad with a newfound interest in the climate sciences, the grandparent who wants to watch for puffins. Each voyage offers a range of activities, from leisurely photo walks along volcanic beaches to vigorous waterfall hikes and 4x4 rides through the remote highlands. Whichever way you choose to explore, you will discover fascinating places as a family and bond over the memories of your expedition for years to come.

Discover Iceland With Ease

The wilds of Iceland are easier to access than ever before, with a host of nonstop flights to and from cities across the United States. Fly from the eastern seaboard to Reykjavík in just over five hours and find yourself in an otherworldly realm of glistening glaciers and gushing geysers. Exploring aboard our fleet, you’ll enjoy the added ease of unpacking once and letting us take you from one destination to the next, along wild coastlines brimming with natural wonders.

Choosing Your Arctic Adventure

Stretching across the top of the globe and touching eight countries, the Arctic is rife with opportunity for every type of explorer, whether you seek iconic wildlife, epic icescapes, or enriching encounters with cultures of the far north. Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic offers 18 itineraries in this remote part of the world, each providing a unique point of view on the region. Here are some highlights from the areas we explore to help you decide which Arctic expedition is the best fit for your interests.

Svalbard & Norway—Set Out on an Arctic Safari

With vast ice floes and snowy shorelines that are as wild as the Serengeti, Svalbard offers a unique opportunity for animal lovers. Watch for walruses and seals, hike the tundra in search of reindeer, and seek out the icon of the Arctic—the polar bear. In the Norwegian fjords, we'll cruise and kayak beneath soaring cliffs and tumbling cascades. With their epic wildlife, stunning landscapes, and endless light from the midnight sun, Svalbard and Norway are also dream destinations for photographers.

Best for: epic wildlife, iconic scenery, photography

Iceland & Isles—Adventures Amid the Living Earth

In Iceland—home to gushing geysers, sliding ice sheets, and vast, lunar-like lava fields—there are a multitude of ways to interact with the living Earth. Take a Zodiac cruise through a basalt cave, hike the base of a fjord to a thundering waterfall, or stroll sea cliffs aflutter with gannets and puffins. On these shorelines, as well as in the nearby Faroe Islands, explore the cultural threads that link the ancient Vikings to modern-day Arctic communities, and enjoy the Icelandic musicians who join us on board to bring local traditions to life.

Best for: geology, birdlife, Viking history

10

Greenland—Encounter Epic Ice and Inuit Culture

The quintessential Arctic destination, Greenland’s icescapes glitter in a dazzling tableau of iridescent icebergs and calving glaciers that we explore by kayak, Zodiac, and on foot. Go beyond the country’s icy surface to experience cultural encounters in Inuit communities that thrive amid the extreme conditions at the top of the world. Depending on the time of year, there may also be the opportunity to watch the northern lights paint the night sky with their neon waves.

Best for: big ice, High Arctic culture, northern lights, backcountry exploration

Canada—Trace the Legacy of Arctic Exploration

Canada plays host to one of the planet's most legendary exploration regions: the fabled Northwest Passage. This voyage is for the explorer who seeks seldom-seen lands, as well as the mythic creatures that flock to their pristine waters and shores—polar bears, walruses, belugas, and maybe even elusive narwhals. Further south, along the rocky coasts of the maritime regions, we see a different side of Arctic exploration: traces of the peoples who settled these shorelines and the local Inuits who continue to protect their lands and heritage through the ages.

Best for: exploration history, rare wildlife, maritime culture

ALL IN: Activities and excursions are always included in the voyage price.

11
A Svalbard traveler takes a closer look at her icy surroundings.

The Wildlife at the Top of the World

The wildlife that inhabits the Arctic is as diverse and fascinating as the region itself. As summer unfolds, the landscapes begin to churn with life, drawing travelers here for the chance to witness these creatures in their natural icy realm. Because these species have far-reaching habitats, you will have the chance to spot many no matter your itinerary, especially with long lenses and binoculars. From the sea to the sky to the frozen tundra, prepare for encounters of the wildest kind.

Polar Bears

Seasonality: Apr.–Aug.

We give these apex predators plenty of space to roam, watching for them from the comfort of our ship and allowing them to go about their daily explorations without intrusion. Spotting a male hunting on the pack ice or a female with cubs playing in the endless summer sunlight are among nature’s most special wildlife moments.

12

Arctic Fox

Seasonality: Apr.–Jul.

Small and stealthy, Arctic foxes are omnivores who traverse the tundra in search of lemmings, fish, berries, and birds. Though known for their striking white coat, in summer their fur morphs into shades of brown that blend in with the landscape.

Narwhals

Seasonality: May–Oct.

Narwhals have earned the moniker “unicorn of the sea” for their epic “horn” and their near-mythic status. Because they can dive deeper than a mile and spend time far out at sea, these toothed whales are especially elusive, which makes any sighting incredibly momentous.

Atlantic Walrus

Seasonality: May–Aug.

These boisterous, giant pinnipeds can grow as large as 12 feet and weigh up to two tons. As social animals, walruses find comfort in large numbers, so they are often found in sizeable herds, stretched out on ice floes or gathered in impressive haul-outs on shore.

Reindeer

Seasonality: Apr.–mid Oct.

Reindeer roam freely in the Arctic where they have people outnumbered. These hearty animals are uniquely adapted to year-round life on the tundra. They have two layers of fur, short and stockybodies that reduce exposure to the cold, and the ability to warm the air they breathe in.

Atlantic Puffins

Seasonality: May–early Aug.

Iceland is home to more than half of the world’s population of these small, endearing birds that rub beaks with their mates. Puffins breed in summer along rocky coastlines where they tend to their chicks in underground burrows. Prepare for plenty of photo ops as these charismatic creatures fly to and from the sea.

Arctic Terns

Seasonality: Jun.–Oct.

Marathon fliers, Arctic terns migrate approximately 91,000 miles annually from pole to pole in search of 24 hours of daylight. They arrive back to their Arctic breeding grounds still full of fight and energy, which is needed to protect their colonies from arctic foxes, polar bears, or large gulls.

Ringed Seals

Seasonality: Mar.–Jun.

Named for the little circles on their coats, ringed seals are the smallest and most common Arctic seal, as well as the favorite prey of polar bears. With claws on their front flippers, these pinnipeds can dig snow caves to birth pups and maintain breathing holes in the sea ice.

Muskoxen

Seasonality: Jun.–Sep.

These herbivores have inhabited the Arctic tundra for many thousands of years. Weighing up to 800 pounds with horns and thick, shaggy coats, muskoxen appear intimidating, but they are still vulnerable to predation. Herds protect themselves from wolf attacks by gathering in circles with their young at the center.

13

Life on Board

Each ship in the Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic fleet is a destination in its own right, featuring superior amenities and cultural experiences to ensure that your time on board is equally rewarding as your time on shore. Every aspect of your experience aboard our fleet is an opportunity to connect with and celebrate the places you explore—from the polar-inspired art in our roving galleries to the culinary delights and soothing spa treatments sourced from our surroundings.

14

Suite Exclusives

Our new Suite Exclusives package gives guests staying in eligible cabins access to an array of amenities designed to enhance your on-board experience, including priority booking for spa treatments and igloo stays (select ships), an in-room espresso maker, complimentary laundry, and other exclusive perks. A Culinary Journey at Every Meal

Sampling local cuisine is a highlight of any voyage, and we take great care to bring the flavors of your destinations to every meal you enjoy on board. Our executive chefs design unique and innovative menus that prominently feature sustainably sourced dishes from the regions you visit, as well as wine pairings and guided tastings to enhance your culinary experience. Special onshore activities, like a mussels tasting on Cape Breton and a visit to an Icelandic farm, invite guests to forge even deeper connections with local culinary traditions.

Sounds of the Far North

Whether it’s a soulful Icelandic folk song or a cheerful Newfoundland sea shanty, music offers a window into the identity of our northerly destinations. Ethnomusicologist Jacob Edgar curates musical experiences aboard our ships so that your time at sea is accompanied by melodies that are reminiscent of our ports of call. For select voyages, Jacob has assembled a line-up of performances featuring local musicians whose songs bring the rich traditions of far northern communities to life.

Indulge in Our Wellness Program

Greet the day with a sunrise yoga session or unwind in the spa with a massage, serenaded by the sound of soothing waves. Our dedicated wellness spaces— including treatment rooms, saunas, fitness centers, and more—encourage travelers to tap into the natural rhythms of their surroundings. Treatments are tailored to your individual needs, and each of our fully accredited wellness specialists is also a licensed massage therapist.

The Art of Expedition Travel

Our ship interiors tell the stories of the Arctic from a different angle—through the eyes of artists who find inspiration in the ice. Artist Zaria Forman curated the first-ever ship-based exhibitions of visual and auditory works, created to express the fragile beauty of the polar regions. Stroll the corridors and shared spaces of National Geographic Endurance or National Geographic Resolution on a guided walk to explore how the evocative paintings, photographs, soundscapes, and other artworks reflect your Arctic surroundings. Svalbard & Norway

Feel the lure of the North Pole in magnetic Svalbard, where snow-clad peaks and ice-checkered waters frame one of the planet’s northernmost archipelagos. Polar bears prowl this icy frontier, which offers one of the planet's best chances of spotting the majestic symbol of the Arctic in its natural habitat. To Svalbard’s south lies another iconic sight: Norway’s deeply carved coastline, which gave the name for the dramatic geological feature we know as the fjord.

Lindblad Expeditions became the first self-disinfecting fleet with the rollout of the ACT CleanCoat™ system in 2019. This photocatalytic cleaning process activates when illuminated, continuously breaking down unwanted microbes such as bacteria, viruses, mold, and airborne allergens. The positive environmental impacts of this non-toxic, chemical-free system are many: less plastic in the supply chain and waste stream, and more than one million gallons of water saved annually. The system lowers our carbon footprint and creates a cleaner, healthier shipboard environment for guests and crew alike.
