THERE’S NOTHING NEUTRAL ABOUT OUR POSITION— But there is one subject we’re neutral on—carbon. As of January 1, 2019, we are officially a carbon neutral company, offsetting the emissions of our fleet, employee travel worldwide, offices in New York and Seattle, all land-based operations, and beyond. Working in partnership with South Pole, the world’s leading developer of international emission reduction projects, we now have a portfolio of six carbon project investments that align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. We’ll continue looking for ways to lessen our carbon footprint at all levels of our business, including equipping new ships with advanced engines and systems for reducing emissions, fuel, and waste.

Our investments focus on renewable energy, reforestation, and community-based projects in the regions our fleet visits, and beyond.

Soon appearing in every cabin fleet-wide—our new insulated water bottle for hot or cold liquids! An elegant design, it helps you stay hydrated on ship and off. Travel with us and you won’t find any single-use plastic aboard. We’ve eliminated all single-use plastic bottles, cups, straws, and stirrers. This effort, along with future plans including crew uniforms crafted from recycled plastic, support National Geographic’s “Planet or Plastic?” campaign. Together we are helping to raise awareness about reducing the amount of plastic in the world’s oceans.

2

WE’RE PASSIONATE ADVOCATES FOR THE PLANET We serve only the most sustainable options on our ships, with the aim of keeping our oceans healthy and fish stocks constantly regenerating. Local, fresh, and sustainable food— not usually a feature of shipboard menus, is at the heart of our culinary program. Using a holistic approach and our reputable network for the research, we review every species we serve in terms of fish quotas, stock levels in particular ocean zones, method of catch, maturity levels, and feed. We are also dedicated to supporting local communities in their sustainable fishing efforts, as well as creating ocean awareness among our staff, crew, guests, suppliers, and the travel industry at large.

Our Antarctica parka has been revised to eliminate Velcro on the front closure— to comply with best environmental practices for South Georgia and other regions where invasive seed/ plant material poses a threat.

Our pioneering Galápagos program is rooted in our commitment to sustainability. To date, we have provisioned more than 20 tons of organic and local produce from Galápagos’ farms. And not importing produce means less risk of invasive species entering the islands.

Our commitment to sustainability is ongoing— we’ve been dedicated to it for 50+ years—and we will continue to make the decisions that have kept us the leaders in responsible tourism, so stay tuned. Now, you have even more reasons to feel good about exploring with us. FROM THE SOURCE: VIDEO OF SVEN LINDBLAD ON “WHY” AT EXPEDITIONS.COM/SUSTAINABILITY 3

We see ourselves as something far more than a travel company, or even an expedition travel company. We are a conduit—to exhilaration. To the feeling you get when you see something wild and unexpected, or rare and beautiful. A feeling that once you’ve had it, makes you want to have it again, and again.

Sven Lindblad

We have a CULTURE OF DISCOVERY. It’s in our DNA. We’ve been at this for 50 years. The collaboration between our masterful captains and experienced expedition leaders creates unprecedented opportunities for our guests.

4

WE GO WHERE AWESOME IS, to the most amazing places on the planet—40+ geographies in all. And we’ve planted our flag in many of them, really committed ourselves to remote wild places—like South Georgia and the Falklands; Patagonia, where we opened up Staten Island, ‘the island at the end of the world,’ for eco-tourism; and now Polynesia, including the Marquesas Islands where few go.

OUR TEAMS WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES to ensure you unforgettable experiences. Whether it’s manning the spotting scopes all night to ensure you a polar bear sighting, orchestrating a landing at an extraordinary wildlife site to coincide with a magnificent sunrise, or sending waiters out with gourmet ice cream bars to refresh you as you explore a Polynesian atoll, their commitment creates thrilling moments for you.

“The people live a life that marries new technology with old-world convention. Soviet-era buildings sit squarely in the town’s center. Wooden benches perch atop a wave-carved hillside to allow whale spotters a chance to sit while they search. Large-wheeled, decades-old, off-road vehicles blast rap music. Yamaha outboards clutching aluminum skiffs sit next to walrus skin boats with oars instead of paddles. The language is Russian, the culture is Yupik and Chukchi, but the berry jam is universal.” —Marylou Blakeslee, naturalist

“In Katmai we quickly found brown bears in the water, poking among the rocks, and perusing the shoreline in search of food. The tide was out, the table was set, and bears were there to feast on the tidal bounty. We found many females and their cubs exploring the tidal zone while other bears were moving along the shoreline.” —Colin McNulty, undersea specialist

BAJA CALIFORNIA & THE SEA OF CORTEZ This is the season to visit Baja California. Our Remarkable Journey is the most comprehensive Baja experience possible— an expedition that begins in the gray whale birthing lagoons on the Pacific side of the peninsula and then ventures into the Sea of Cortez for over a week of exploration. Or choose Exploring the Sea of Cortez to focus on the region’s pristine islands and go where a great variety of whales and dolphins gather. On both, walk miles of pristine beach, kayak along sculpted sandstone cliffs, and snorkel with sea lions. Witness gorgeous sunrises and sunsets daily; and see the Milky Way clearly stretched across a star-filled night sky, from the ship’s deck or a beach BBQ.
