Dear Friends and Fellow Breeders, I have written a lot of letters in my lifetime, but never one so hard, emotional, or difficult. As many of you know, I am not usually at a loss for words but this time I am bordering on speechless. My very first love was cattle and I now find myself at a crossroads in my life where my primary love which is my family is not getting nearly the time they deserve from me nor the time that I want to spend with them. This is a place that I never thought I would be at as I poured my soul and every ounce of myself into building this operation from a very young age. I love this industry and its been great to my family and I. We have enjoyed a lot of success, made some great memories, learned from our mistakes, and at this point have built a cowherd that I am proud to put my brand on and stand behind. The “H” brand isn’t just a letter, it’s the story of my life, my passion, and a summary of all of my success and failures. The cow families represented in the pages that follow are a product of countless hours of extremely disciplined hard and enjoyable work. I told a friend of mine once that I have never “worked” a day in my life. I love what I do at a level that even at its most trying times, I can’t wait to get up and do it all over again the next day. I have never measured my wealth by monetary means, rather I have chosen to measure it by the moments that I have been able to completely immerse myself into my passion. I have been blessed and very lucky to have fulfilled a childhood dream and made it my reality for over 30 years. The cattle being offered have been carefully selected and bred on to produce at the highest levels. In most cases, they have. I’m not going to measure the success of this cow herd based on banners alone, I am going to measure it on the basis of longevity. There are several cow families still alive in this herd that trace clear back to when my sister Amy and I showed. I’m proud of that as these cattle are still producing champions and daughters for our herd! Pay close attention to the cows carrying pregnancies. These are not just “recips”. These are daughters of donors and in a lot of cases, have produced extremely high revenue cattle on their own. My goal was to assemble a cow herd so good and so versatile that it did not matter if they missed an egg or missed AI. I wanted females that could produce out of anything! No cow here is ever “immune” to carrying another cow’s calf. We have always valued our recipient cows as much as our donors. All the cows in this offering still have a lot of life in them and have been managed to stay productive. There are some females that I have never had a chance to breed on and am anxious to see them work. There are several cows that are versatile enough to go a lot of different directions with. I am excited to hear about your success stories after you take them into your care. I can supply any additional flush data on the donors as well as cow production records on most of the cattle in the offering. I want to see them work for you and be an asset to your operation! My list of thank-you’s to all of the mentors, influential cattlemen and good people that have been in the trenches at the ranch that helped me get here is entirely too long to list any names in the fear I may forget someone. You all know who you are, I appreciate you giving me your time, an opportunity, or offering your talents. With the upmost sincerity from the bottom of my heart; THANK YOU! The people I want to thank the most are my family. My parents Dave and Linda, without your sacrifice, love, and support, I would have never been able to realize my dream. To my biggest cheerleader and toughest critic my whole life, my baby sister Amy. We started this together and what an awesome ride its been! Most importantly, my wife Lindsay and my son Jaxon. I haven’t always been on time or gone to everything you wanted me to, but I want you to know how much I love you both and appreciate your patience, love and support. To close, I am deeply moved by the understanding and support that my family and I have received from many of you about our decision to slow way down and I greatly appreciate your kind words and encouragement. While I am most likely not done forever, I need to close this chapter for now. I hate seeing anything good go to waste, so take these cattle home and let them be as much a part of your story as they have been mine! Thank You again for taking the time to be with us or inquire about the cattle. We feel they are a truly special cow herd. Sincerely,

Brad,Lindsay, and Jaxon Hanewich

Sale Staff

Dear Friends and Fellow Cattlemen, It is with bittersweet emotions that I address you all in this letter. When I received the call from my great friend, Brad Hanewich, back in late summer, I was somewhat shocked, confused and concerned. But after about 10 minutes into the conversation, I could tell that my friend was at a crossroads in his life and that the right decision was to offer this legendary herd for your appraisal. I have watched Brad assemble this cow herd for over 30 years; carefully selecting genetics from cow families that have historically proven their worth through their production generation after generations. This set of females is very unique in their genetic design and construction for blending only the best British and Continental genetics. Over the past two decades, they have utilized only the greatest club calf and show calf genetics to create a market of calves to merchandise that have been proven by the hundreds of banners that they have hung for their new owners as you will witness in the pages to follow. The “H” brand has become synonymous with champions shown all over the United States and that doesn’t just happen over night. It has taken dedication, hard work and long hours of labor, intensive commitments, financial investments and perseverance. For many of you that have gotten to know Brad and Lindsay, they are very passionate about life, about their family and about this cow herd. The offering of productive, proven and prolific females presented in these pages represents a lifetime of love. Please take time to study the genetic profiles of these tremendous females. I’m confident that you will find many females that will make your short list of purchases that will catapult your program into the next decade. In addtion, they will add profitability to your bottline like that have done for years for this family. In my nearly 40 years of marketing livestock all over this country from coast to coast and border to border, I have never, ever seen such a positive market as we are witnessing today. The time is right, this set of cattle are the right choice, and there will never be another opportunity like this to purchase every female from this program. A program with history, a program with success and more importantly a program backed by great people. If there is anything I can do to make your decisions easier on sale day, or if you need any further information, please feel free to call or text me anytime, day or night at (405)408-2440. I look forward to seeing you all in Anita, Iowa at the historic Cow Palace Auction Facility on December 11th…YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY!!!!!!!!

The

G.O.A.T GREATEST OF ALL TIME

1014 How do you describe an iconic female like this? Surreal really to have had the opportunity to own and propagate a female like this. Total outcross to everything on the planet, absolutely clean from any genetic defects of any kind, and the undeniable quality to last through multiple generations while transmitting that super cool brockle face nearly every time. The day I found her I called home and told my father I had just purchased the foundation to my entire cattle operation. She did everything right: perfect structure and huge square feet, baby doll disposition, big fertility and perfect udder quality and maternal ability. She is 17.5 years old in this photo; the last time she was flushed, she was 23. REFERENCE ONLY. Never before, never again, truly the G.O.A.T.!

The result of mating two legends! This bull may be the single most versatile breeding piece I have ever owned. He has the ability to replicate a number of different breed characteristics and follow suite on color across several different colored cows. Actual birth weight of 72 pounds, his neck and head design would suggest calving ease as well. Only got a chance to sire 3 calves so far and did exactly what we thought he would. Big opportunity here at a time the industry could uses a bull like this! Daughter sells as Lot 98.

Emily

DIRECT DAUGHTER OF 1014 by Sun Seeker. Some that remember 1014 way back in the day would argue that the Sun Seeker flush out of her was maybe the best one. I don’t necessarily disagree. That flush spawned a couple steers that were dominating then that were probably just a little ahead of their time; they would be great today! That flush also produced this donor, and this Emily donor that has left a major impact on our herd through her daughters and a herd sire we just recently retired we called HCC UNO. HCC Emily is yet another branch of the 1014 family tree that delivers through multiple generations. REFERENCE ONLY.

DIRECT DAUGHTER OF CALYPSO. Sired by Irish Whiskey. Massive amounts of breeding potency here with 2 maternal GIANTS! This was a no questions mating here for me and this female is precisely what I envisioned when mating Calypso this way. A young female with a big life of opportunity ahead of her nursing a heifer calf by another female making giant, GCC Whizard. No guesswork here, no imagination required. She’s good, her mommas good, and her daughter shows me signs at this young of an age that she could be better than both of them! That’s what genetics are supposed to do!

AI Sire: Maternal Made| Due: 1/9/22 Calf Sex: Bull | Pregnancy Resulting Breed: Maintainer

DIRECT DAUGHTER OF CALYPSO. Sired by Believe In Me. A Calypso daughter with some extras and big features! I love this young future donors build and kind. She has the best parts from both parents and has worked really well so far to Witch Doctor and I-80 influence. As good as the Irish Whiskey genetics work on this cow family, that Maternal Made bull calf in her belly could finance the entire purchase and repro projects going forward on this great young future donor!

These females are precisely what I had envisioned when planning this mating. In fact, I am so confident in these genetics that I IVF aspirated H524 with Vytelle (NO FSH) as a virgin heifer to get the next leg of the Calypso cow family rolling. A little different in their kind, H5 offers a massive amount of bone and skeletal width with incredible high quality hair and H524 has mommas undeniable quality and balance. Help yourself here, I was going to get pretty invested in this pair of females here.

C leopatra

BHCC CLEOPATRA

DIRECT DAUGHTER OF CALYPSO. The MAB daughter that got the ball rolling for Calypso and to date, maybe the most famous direct daughter! The MAB flush that Cleopatra came out of this cow dominated the U.S. for a few years until we ran out of eggs. Several state fair champion brothers and sisters as well as banners at NAILE in the Chi female show. This young cow is just getting started. When Curtis purchased her as a show heifer, I retained 2 flushes on her. The pregnancies in this offering are a result of that project. I have high hopes for this young donor and can’t help but think the pregnancies out of her are home runs. Owned by Curtis Patton, PA. REFERENCE ONLY.

Combining the Best Calypso & 1014 My entire thought process on genetics is saturation and replication of the best and highest producing females in the herd. I was lucky enough in my career to have owned two females that you couldn’t screw up no matter how you mated them. I love the kind that make you look smart! That said, it only made sense to start intertwining the 1014 and CALYPSO cow families. These females represent the direction I was taking the entire cow herd and I had plans to start them all as mid-late fall calvers. I have never had the chance to breed on this combination, but in all the years it has taken to produce them and all the steps along the way to make them, I am as confident in these to produce big as any in the offering. Again, they represent the direction I was headed.

The Sister to Monopoly

Izzy

THE MATERNAL SISTER TO MONOPOLY and former undefeated champion herself. Not much needs said about the impact the Hazel cow has had in the club-calf industry. Sired by EXAR Lutton, “Izzy” has been a great producer for us. She has generated major dollars when mated back to Heat Wave (3/4 sibs to Monopoly) and has direct daughters and some pregnancies selling in this offering. We lost this donor to lightning before we had much of a chance to really get her going, but her legacy lives on through this sale. REFERENCE ONLY. DIRECT DAUGHTER SELLS AS LOT 92.

She breaks every rule of body conformation: freaky long necked but great big bellied and soft, huge feet and legs but as athletic and agile to this day as a month old calf, wide skeleton but flat muscled…. she is a true freak of nature and cattle like her rarely exist let alone in a purebred model. The Pay The Price direct daughter of Hazel and the granddaughter of Harietta. I loved this one from birth and refused to even offer her as a calf as I had plans of building around her. In fact, I was so confident in this one that we IVF’d her with Vytelle (NO FSH) twice and put up a bank of eggs as well as made pregnancies that sell on this sale. The White Whale! I don’t know of many cows of any color with this much body mass and skeletal width, especially white ones! This cow has only ever been used in our club-calf side of things but has so much more in her than that! With her impeccable udder quality and structure, I always thought she could do big things making females. I actually have never had a heifer calf out of this cow, but the steers out of her always get to 5 figures in a hurry and typically get their picture taken. Dam of the 2021 ISF Champion slick shear that was in the hunt for the top 5, dam of past IN State Jr Char Show champion steers. Damn good donor cow!

I was not looking for another Charolais donor when this one literally landed in my lap. I seen her walking across the parking lot in Louisville in a big group of cattle as we were pulling in. I literally jumped out of the truck and told the guy riding with me to stay with the truck and trailer, I had to find out more about her before she got away. Long story short, I was able to get her bought and we didn’t get a parking ticket! I bought Hailee with intentions of building our entire slick shear or southern type cattle around her. Hard to get foot and bone like this and have that much build and look too. I had very high hopes for this cow here and think she can do it for the next person. IVF aspirated one time by Vytelle (NO FSH) to IGWT and very successful.

A DIRECT daughter of Joe Sullivan’s 660 Donor. For a long time I have wrote Joe checks on flushmate brothers to this cow that have treated me very well. For a long time, I’ve wanted a daughter of this cow. I got lucky and was finally able to acquire one from Joe 4 years ago, I still cant believe he let me have her! This young donor has only ever been IVF aspirated one time by Vytelle (NO FSH) to IGWT. I sure was planning on getting her on the short list of the donor rotation around here and really going hard on her. She should calve by sale day to Steam Roller and have a bull calf at side. I’ve been anxiously awaiting the arrival of this guy as I think he could incredible.

This Donor has been a big contribution to our program for quite a while now. She is the baseline for generating females as evidenced by her daughters that sell through this offering . Massive bodied and classic maternal look. Trace her influence through this catalog and you decide! She was IVF aspirated by Vytelle (NO FSH) 3 times this past spring and is averaging right at 8 embryos. Lots of life and good left in this cow!

Giselle

The maternal sister to the National Triple Crown Champion Maintainer bull, MVP and a direct daughter of Miss Green Valley 535R who needs no introduction to the Maine breed. “Giselle” was the high selling heifer calf in our fall sale and was purchased by the Strope family of NE. about a week after the sale, I knew I had screwed up selling that heifer and called them back and asked them if I could buy back half of her someday. Thankfully, they agreed and the result has been a tremendous OCC Anchor bull calf on her first one, a really good Primo heifer on her second one, and the third one is the Bleeding Purple 419 steer pictured below. “G” had a tremendous show career gathering calf champion honors at NAILE, a Reserve Division Win at Jr Nationals, and capturing Champion Maine (Jr show) and Reserve Maine (open) at the World Beef Expo. We left this young cow open to start flushing on her this year but never got a chance to before we decided to disperse. NEVER been flushed; big opportunities ahead for this young donor. Little and mighty! I’ve always thought we should make this cow to a mini Hereford to see what we could get to happen. She has done an awesome job for us here and milks incredibly good! In fact I have used her as a recipient twice because she does such a good job mothering them. This time around, I bred her to Perfect 10 for a Hereford marked summer born. I think this could work in a great big way!

H100’s mother was the hairiest and biggest boned Whiskey female I had ever seen when I purchased her out of one of the last sales at Cane Ridge. I have always gotten along great with our Ready To Rumble daughters as cows as evidence by 121/1014 being the mother of the Champion Prospect Steer at the 2020 NAILE. I held this one open for a late fall early winter calver intentionally and had intentions of sending this one to the donor pen eventually.

Welcome to the Show

Own It All

Out of the maternal sister to Monopoly and the legend Heatwave, no guesswork here! She is a three quarter sister to Monopoly and looks a lot like he did as a calf. I’ve been asked what my opinion is on this female a number of times. My response is always the same “I cant tell you that she will ever win a show, and it don’t matter. That’s a baby donor cow that is the best version of both parents”. We have only ever had one other heifer out of this flush, she went on to be champion commercial and 4th overall female at the Hoosier Beef Congress and then we retired her show career after that and got her to producing eggs. BIG TIME donor candidate!
