BIG NESS RECRUITMENT IDENTITY
BIGbrothersBIGsisters is the oldest, largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the United States. There are branches, charities and groups all across the
fostering positive role models for underprivileged children. There are many organizations dedicated to this goal, of tutoring, mentoring and fostering children, but no one does it like Big Brothers Big Sisters through
nation—all dedicated to one thing:
one-to-one relationship building with the emphasis on family and community.

bigs :: Big volunteers are the heart of the organization. They are the ones actually making the difference to the child. They’re mentors, aged 16–65, that volunteer their time, energy and money to a child. They are asked to only donate one hour a week to their little. Without them, the organization wouldn’t exist.
workers :: The administrators and full-time staff work with local schools, the community and volunteers to create the ideal matches.
supporters :: Since Big Brothers Big Sisters is a non-profit organization, it relies on contributions, donations and sponsorships from the community, townspeople and city.
littles :: Our Littles, aged 6–16, come from many types of family structures and home environments, ethnic backgrounds, different socialeconomic levels, neighborhoods and schools across communities. The backgrounds and personalities are unique, but the thing the our Littles have in common is a need for a strong, supported friendship with a caring adult.
all parts are important, but let’s focUs on the one that makes the difference :: The BIGS
THE BIGS National research has shown that
positive
relationships between Littles + Bigs have a direct and measurable impact on children’s lives. Bigs dont just become friends, but educators, friends, mentors and confidants.
the facts :: 27% less likely to begin using alcohol
smile more!
take less time to adapt to uncomfortable situations
With the partnership of a Big, Littles are:
More confident in their schoolwork performance
52% less likely to skip school
Able to get along better with their families
have a stronger awareness of the world around them
46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs

time equals happiness CHART
when most bigs call it quits Which leaves the child, who
::
was warming up to their BIG, alone and abandoned. This causes more damage to the child than one may realize. They lose trust in adults, in the program and tend to have a negative attitude towards mentors and peers.
help children reach their potential through professional
Big Brothers Big Sisters Mission is to
supported, one-to-one relationships with volunteered mentors who wish to be a positive role model for the children.
But, if BIGs sign up without understanding the commitment and choose to abandon the volunteer work, it becomes detremental to the child rather than positive. All in which
contradicts
the mission by potentially leaving the child more confused and upset then they were before they started the program.
To avoid these sad faces, we must
focus
on the BIGS :: for they are the heart of this organization! The goal is to recruite commited, inspired and excited, individuals that are aware of the impact and influence they’ll have on the children of their community!
but who or what is a big?
BIG is
“
a friend a playmate a confidant a storykeeper a sound board a companion

A big is a sister without the mom connection!
Becka Dunch, with her BIG, Amy.
BIGS like to :: play ball + jump rope :: walk the mall or track :: help with math :: fish, swim + splash :: share popcorn :: skip rocks
have fun, just like you!
:: swing on the swings :: plan picnics :: answer tough questions :: enjoy being outdoors :: have finished high school :: laugh with friends
BIGS

being a big just feels good.
the idea ::
get bigs to understand the ease & personal benefits For Bigs to fill their role, they must understand it first. By creating a role model for recruiting Big Brothers and Big Sisters, we would be building a character who speaks to the pubic about the value and benefits of Bigs in the community and on a child’s life. A potential volunteer would then be able to see himself in the Bigs shoes, and realize their own potential as a Big.
Why wouldn’t you want to be a BIG to a LITTLE?
::
Mentoring a child before I get a degree in counseling? That’s brilliant & helpful!
:: I didn’t realize Bigs had so much fun!
That looks fun and easy! And I could count it toward my volunteer hours?!
I want to be thaaat kind of person!
:: That’s what BIGS are? I can be that! Heck! I want to be that!
:: You mean I’m not the babysitter, I’m more like their cool older brother?
Now, how do we get These people to realize their potential BIG-dom :: WE SPEAK THEIR LANGUAGE We entice & challenge them
how so ::

Amy WAneheR :: 19 :: only child Amy is a spark plug. She’s active, loud and loves to be around people. She finds comfort in companionship and joy in simple things, all of which she contributes to her being an old child. Amy NEEDS TO SEE AN ACTIVE, GIGGLY, FUN LOVING BIG TO REALIZE HER POTENTIAL.
Judy Cuttler :: 58 :: Empty Nest Judy misses having kids around. The last of four children moved to Alabama for college last month and she just recently retired from being a grade school teacher. She loves to be involved around town, for she is head of Fundraising at the Community Center. JUDY NEEDS TO SEE A friendly and inspiring big to realize her potential.
People know of the organization, but if people
only
knew all the ways Big Brothers Big Sisters would could and should benefit them, they’d be a lot more inclined to volunteer. If presented correctly, they would start to see they could easily, willingly and happily be a BIG.
introduction ::
WHAT KIND OF REWARD WILL THIS BRING ME?
head ::
It’s time to make a responsible, adult decision about what you want to do in your spare time. You could watch more television, get another drink with the guys, or just lounge around. But why not do something that’s worth your time, that’s admirable and impacting a child’s life? Isn’t it time you got your head in the game and really started making a difference in the world around you. TV can wait, this kid needs you.
heart ::
It’s more than playing basketball or skipping rocks, you’re creating a bond with a child that has an everlasting emotional effect on them. You act as their mentor, counselor and companion. When signing up, realize you’re gaining a Little brother or sister, a whole other family member to love.
hands ::
Big Brothers Big Sisters is about community, involvement and self awareness as well. You’ll see the opportunities and activities your city has to offer, as well as getting to know the people around the corner.
Big Brothers Big Sisters has a strong reputation and is known for being
a positive, honest and responsible organization. If you are a BIG, it’s something to be proud of and others will find admirable of you. This is a huge selling point for most people, therefore hype it up.
will demont :: 38 :: Do-Gooder
Will is just an average guy. He graduated from the University of Texas, 15 years ago, with a degree in accounting. He works a 9-5 job at an office in downtown Austin. He heard his coworkers talking about volunteering in their spare time and it sparked some interest. WILL NEEDS TO SEE An adaptable, flexible and youthful big to realize his potential.

Being a BIG is so attractive. Shows you can and will be responsible for someone other than yourself!
” Through BBBS I met a great group of people who I got to do activites with every week!
Josh Midson :: BIG for 6 months
Chloe Midson :: Univ. Columnist
Jacob Mullahan :: 22 :: Academic Jacob is a nice fella, with good intentions. He is two semesters away from graduating from Arizona State University with a Bachelors in Child Psycology and Education and is uncertain about what he wants to do once he graduates. He knows he wants to work with children, but beyond that he’s unsure. His dad has been pestering him to get some ‘real world’ experience through volunteering around his community, but picking up trash or donating to can food drives doesn’t spark his interest. He’d rather have something that can work around his school schedule, benefit his education and shine on a resume. JACOB NEEDS TO SEE A professional, smart and logical big to realize his potential.
It’s important to pull out what volunteering can and will
personally do for the individual, as far as education, career and real world experience. Some
how beneficial to their lifestyle being a BIG could be, simply because they don’t realize
haven’t thought about it in this way. Show them.
incentive ::
How Will Joining effect me directly?
genuine fulfillment To volunteer brings a sense of pride, warmth and over posivitive energy. Not only are you helping an underpriviledged child, you’re expanding your experiences and view points. It looks good, is good and does good.
real world experience This organization gives you a chance to work with children, parents, schedules, activities, on the spot questions, and crisis situations. All of which are real world things when it comes to any sort of field working with children.
educationally expanding By working with a child, you’ll be able to take what you have learned from the books and apply it to the outside world. You’ll grain a greater understanding of child development as well as the workings of families, school children and individual growth.
career and resumé builder Big Brothers Big Sisters has established a strong reputation and large network. It’s known as a positive, responsible, caretaking volunteer experience, therefore will impress any CEO. And who knows, perhaps your interviwer was a BIG themself!
Volunteering just feels good. Everyone loves the warm and fuzzies they get from a child laughing or arts and crafts on a Monday night.
