A rustic stone fireplace makes reference to the beach bonfires that were once common in the area. Backed by a curved stone bench and rebuilt dry stack stone wall, the south patio becomes an inviting space to enjoy the evening with friends and family.

Project Summary

To celebrate the rain and slow stormwater's movement off the property, a rainchain will direct water from the roof to a decorative pot for slow release into the property's drainage system.

structed in the future, habitually pruned trees and hedges will be replaced with smaller, more appropriate varieties. The plant palette was carefully selected to maximize interest during the winter months when the owner is in residence, in addition to providing erosion control throughout the property.

Key Successes • Usable outdoor space is increased, adding additional opportunities for nighttime activities and family gatherings

Nestled in a rural agricultural valley, Bee Hill Farm seeks to provide its residents with food, relaxation, and diversion from their weekday lives in Los Angeles. Pollinator gardens support the bee hives that provide the farm’s namesake, while berry, herb, and foraging gardens allow the clients to provide fresh food for adventurous eaters. An outdoor kitchen area, bocce court, and site lighting complete the experience.

The Learning Garden Peace Corps/Paraguay Central Offices - Asunción, Paraguay Project Summary In order to educate incoming volunteers on the different crops that flourish in Paraguay’s climate, plants are rotated seasonally to showcase local techniques for small garden design and maintenance. The landscape was installed by a crew of three over the course of two days.

Key Successes • Volunteers maintain garden for plant ID purposes, as well as fruit and medicinal plant production • Vegetation provides shade and privacy for visitors to Peace Corps’ central medical offices

La Casona Regional Tourism Center Municipality of Areguá, Paraguay Project Summary Located on grounds of a residence built in 1890, this landscape showcases a plant palette based on historic photos of homes in the area. In addition, the grounds feature works of sculpture by local artists and 2,100ft2 of turf installed in preparation for the center’s inauguration. The landscape was installed by a crew of three over the course of two days.

Key Successes • Planting palette echoes the design of historical gardens in the area • Installation completed on-time and on-budget

The Villarrica Regional Tourism Center Municipality of Villarrica, Paraguay Project Summary Through this interactive landscape, visitors learn first-hand about the area’s agricultural heritage, including sugarcane, yerba mate, manioc, and medicinal plant production. Comfortable seating and nighttime lighting round out the design, creating a space that is already well used by local residents. The landscape was installed by a crew of five over the course of eight days.

Key Successes • Hardscape, lighting, site amenities and plant materials installed per construction documents • Topsoil, wood and medicinal plants donated in part by local businesses, reducing project costs

The Freston Residence

FRESTON RESIDENCE - Jardin de Provence Fence and Gate Option #1 Montecito, CA 93108 Montecito, CA July 7, 2014

Project Summary High above Santa Barbara, the Freston residence affords breathtaking views from all sides. With this in mind, the client requested a screen fence at the entrance to his meditation garden to hide visitor’s cars from view. Wisteria and Arabian Jasmine add touches of color and fragrance to the gateway. Planting beds were refreshed with herbs and new varieties of dwarf citrus for year round culinary interest.

Key Successes • Worked directly with contractors to fabricate fence and install plant materials • Client was very pleased with finished product and has replicated the design else where on his property

The Wasco Residence Montecito, CA Project Summary

For the remodel of their mid-century modern home, the clients were interested in drawing inspiration from historic landscape sketches by the original architect. Clean curves and arcs, along with bold drifts of colorful vegetation, resulted in a landscape which anchors the house and accentuates views south to the shoreline.

Key Successes • Worked on-site with contractors to locate steel headers and form arcs per plan • Arranged plant material on-site to best play off hardscape design • Clients were very pleased with the finished product

The Costa Alegre High School Design Workshop Costa Alegre, Municipality of Tobati, Paraguay

Project Summary Over the span of a year, the teaching staff and community of Costa Alegre participated in a four-part participatory design workshop to lay the ground work for a new regional high school. The workshops covered project visioning and priority setting, site analysis and layout, general design, and design detail refinement.

Key Successes • Design process guided by student ideas & community educational priorities • Construction funding secured on basis of workshop results

Tree Planting for Healthy Communities Republic of Paraguay

Project Summary With less than 40% of Paraguay’s original forest cover remaining, tree planting is an essential activity for creating healthy, livable communities in both cities and the countryside.

Key Successes • Tree planting projects completed in public streets, plazas, schools and health centers • Twenty three educational sessions completed on the importance of trees for community health • Thirteen regional tree planting projects completed, resulting in the installation of 5,695 native trees
