RESEARCH QUESTION HOW CONNE CT WI T H

INSPIRATION Collecting data We have been collecting data through field research, walking in the area and interviewing people that we meet during the research. We have been taking notes on how people used and passed through the area. Field observations: Entrance and exits
Entrances and exits: It was a challenge to point out a main entrances to the area, There are several ways to enter, and the entrances varies in their visibility.
Field observations: Within the area
The area is mainly used for parking and passing through to another place in the city. People were walking, biking or skating in different directions. We observed that people were often not walking on the paths - or in places were there were no paths. By interviewing people in the area, we got our previous observations confirmed.
WORKSHOP DATA Mapping People were asked how they entered the area and had to draw a line of their route in order to collect information on the most commonly used routes. Here we saw a pattern that people often walked by the lake on the side that has stores.
Mood workshop: The present feelings The participants were asked to look at pictures taken in the area and describe their associations, feelings and thoughts. They then noted this on post-it notes and attached these to the pictures that evoked the feelings. The collected data has been compiled in a wordcloud (see picture below). The more often the word is used, the bigger the word is in the wordcloud.
LEGO workshop We asked people to express their wishes through either abstract or more concrete LEGO creations and used this as a tangible conversation starter.
Image 1: A creation called "Samhøringhed" that focused on creating an area that both invited to do individual activities and creating a space for being together. Image 2. A participant building a safety fence to protect kids from the water Image. 3. A participant is dreaming of; art, flowers, contrast and something that divides, yet allows the people to enter in more than one way
Future wishes Through the creation and interviews we found the following themes that emerged through the creations. In order to understand this data we used the collected data and compiled another wordcloud (see picture below). The more often the word is used, the bigger the word is in the wordcloud. This can then be compared with the previous cloud to find a perceived gap by the users.

We looked for solutions from around the world through Pinterest and brainstormed on ideas for a solution to our question: How can we connect the area with experience? Through our data, brainstorming and user research we found our suggestion about using our senses to connect the area. How might we make connections through a sensorial experience? By exploring the sense of smell, visual, touch, light, sounds etc. our solution is to use senses to create paths in an abstract form, to guide the citizen to the area, and invite them to stay longer. Â This idea was then used when facilitating a workshop for the municipality. The workshop let the representatives arrange LEGO bricks, which had different meanings mostly defined as sensorial experience through the area. This lead to the idea that you could create new paths, leading people by their senses - making a sound path with speakers or making a light path were it is safe to walk at night.
