2024-25 SEASON OUTLOOK

the sky’s the limit

Building on past success while aiming to reach new heights, Linfield is ready to make waves in the Northwest Conference

TThe Linfield men’s and women’s swimming teams have plenty of reasons for optimism entering the 2024-25 season. The Wildcats feature a balanced blend of seasoned veterans and promising newcomers, all under the guidance of 11th-year head coach Kyle Kimball. With a commitment to training and performance, both squads are focused on maximizing their potential in the pool this winter.

MEN

Poised for a competitive season, the men’s squad returns a strong core of experienced leaders. Senior Gavin Smith stands out as a distance specialist, having previously claimed an NWC championship during his sophomore year. His experience and commitment to excellence will be vital for the team as the Wildcats attempt to build momentum throughout the season. Known for his versatility across multiple events, Rocco Velie returns as a key contributor. Velie’s ability to perform well in across the board makes him a valuable asset. Rounding out the leadership group is senior Carson Washburn, who is expected to play a key role on several relay events.

Several up-and-coming athletes are in position to make an impact this winter. Sophomore Ivan Tontchev is expected to make some noise in the breaststroke along with the relay events. His dedication and work ethic have already made him a standout performer. Additionally, Nikola Jelusic is beginning to separate himself as he continues to develop and strengthen the team’s overall performance.

The addition of several talented freshmen adds a new dynamic to the team. Sam Postlewait joins the Wildcats as a promising recruit, bringing enthusiasm and a fresh perspective to the roster. Meanwhile, Kai Laitinen, whose parents both swam at Linfield, is eager to continue the family legacy. With a strong foundation of talent, the men’s team is focused on building consistency throughout the dual meet season in advance of the NWC Championships in February.

WOMEN

The women’s squad is equally determined to reclaim its status as a powerhouse in the NWC. With a strong senior class led by Lauren Bobo-Shisler, Avery Campbell, and Kalea Mullins, the team is well-equipped for a successful season. Bobo-Shishler is going to be relied on for her leadership both in and out of the pool, while Campbell and Mullins add speed and experience to the lineup. This trio not only brings exceptional talent but also embodies leadership qualities necessary for a deep run at the NWC Championships. They are poised to leave a lasting impact on Linfield swimming, potentially marking this as the most successful class in program history given the squad’s NWC championship two seasons ago a runner-up finish last winter.

The Wildcats feature a talented group sophomores and juniors who are ready to make a splash. Junior Kirsti Keppo has already established herself as a standout performer, holding several school records and earning NWC Swimmer of the Meet honors at last year’s NWC championship event. Her dedication to the sport and remarkable achievements make her a key performer for the Wildcats this season.

Sarah Arpag is another name to watch. Known for her versatility and ability to excel in multiple events, Arpag’s impressive record-setting performances provide the with competitiveness and needed depth. Additionally, sophomore Caley Haydu is expected to take on a leadership role within the squad, guiding younger athletes and fostering a positive team culture.

Transfer Chloe Lazaraton comes over from Westmont College and adds an exciting new dimension to the team, bringing fresh energy and experience.

The freshman class is headlined by Alana Zumbrum who is eager to contribute her skills and make her mark in her first collegiate season. With a well-rounded roster and a commitment to excellence, the women’s team is looking to reclaim the championship title back after finishing second in the conference last year.
