REMEMBERING TREASURE GARDEN
CATO SQUARE PRAHRAN
this project proposes a sensational mixed use complex that engages with the underlying urban, economic, infrastructural and cultural systems that organise the district. there is much discussion around what to do with the site and the city council is tasked with nding a use for the colonial site, investigating new possibilities. the site is located in between Prahran station and Chapel street, demanding a site-speci c approach to bridging the two. the project places pedestrians first, proposing new network of parks and paths creating a green network of e ortless circulation with a distinctive character of a cultural hub (or locale). Creating a new landscape layer hovering above the ground, adding a vibrant layer of social activities. Topography and accessibility are merged and together with the proposed activation will create a new heart of Prahran. the project aims to provide for and encourage a dynamic and pedestrian focused community while linking the local residential neighbourhood back to the main attractions in Chapel street. What is currently a spatial parking lot is set to become a new destination to thousands of Melbournians, a centre of commerce and retail, and a major open space that builds upon the city’s reinvestment in the city centre and its public spaces, while acting as a catalyst for underserved parts of the area.
