DEMENTIA ACTION WEEK IS ACTION-PACKED FOR RESORT

This week is Dementia Action Week, and in Blackpool a number of events are taking place to celebrate and raise awareness of the support available to people living with dementia and their carers.

Trinity Hospice’s Admiral Nurse Maxine Emslie and Admiral Nurse Assistant Julie Wooley-Hemming will be attending a conference to increase their knowledge in early-onset dementia, visiting the Dementia Café at Marton United Reformed Church and the FCMS bus at Blackpool and the Fylde College.

But the highlight of the week will be the return of the Dementia Action Week Heritage Tram Tour, sponsored by Blackpool Transport, offering people living with dementia and their carers a trip down memory lane, with musical entertainment and a fish and chip lunch.

Maxine said: “There really is so much available for people living with dementia and their carers across the Fylde coast, and it’s truly a pleasure to work with them all to showcase the support they offer.

“This week is all about highlighting local support available to all people living with dementia, from early symptoms and diagnosis to the later stages of the living with the condition.

“Here on the Fylde coast, we also want to celebrate the important work being done to create a dementia friendlier community, and I truly believe that by working together with our local partners that we can do just that.”

On Thursday, a heritage tram will set off from Pleasure Beach for a journey into the past with music and songs from days gone by. With onboarding music provided by the Thornton Cleveleys Brass Band and lunch donated by Papa’s of Blackpool, guests are in for a treat!

Julie said: “We are once again incredibly grateful to Blackpool Transport for helping with this fantastic event, which we’re sure will provide a wonderful experience and journey into the past for the people we are privileged to care for.”
