Deep in my heart, the concept of a warm house could always remind me of my happiest summer vacation in my childhood, spent with my grandma in the serene village. There was a gentle breeze, chirping of summer insects, and the delightful rattle of bamboo under the sway of the wind. We used to sit on the bamboo chairs in the traditional style courtyard and had a cosy chat with friendly neighbours. love nature and enjoy the harmonious relationship between different people.

Although the correlation between human and space cannot avoid the change of the times, I always believe that no matter what era we are in, no matter driven by technology, context or economy, the origin of our community is always based on the intimate relationship between man and man, human and nature, just as the beautiful memories do. Therefore, I'm thinking about responding to the variation from the demands of residents and local environment in different perspectives, to integrate the nature and warmth into space and function as a person delivering warmth through my design.

Gate Of The Canal

The High-Rise Buliding With Couryards

Tutor: Lee Haiying, Wang Xiaobin

Location: Tongzhou District, Beijing, China

Acadamic, Individual Work

Driven by economy, the harmonious relationship between the ancient canal culture and the commercial civilization is discussed through the high-rise architecture. In addition, in current times of full of tall buildings, this project hopes to bring much more opportunities for people to get close to nature, and to make people still have their own “courtyards”.

01

High-Rise Bulding By The Canal

The project plot is located in the core area of canal business area of Tongzhou New Town, Beijing, the northwest side of the Tonghui River interchange with the North Canal. Within five years, the focus of the construction of Beijing New City will be inclined to Tongzhou. Its positioning is misplaced with Financial Street, Shunyi Empty Port Area and Yizhuang High-tech Industrial Zone, to undertake the distribution function of CBD eastward expansion, and develop the supporting modern service industry. The core area of Tongzhou New Town is located at the intersection of the “five rivers” of Wenyu River, Tonghui River, Xiaozhong River, Yunchaojian River and North Canal.

YUNCHAOJIAN RIVER

The area where the project is located in has a profound cultural heritage and is also defined as a core area suitable for priority start. The building block is divided into two parts. Double tower building make the building at a height of 100m or so more towering to accommodate the regional positioning. In addition, according to the solar track and wind direction in the area, The streamline shape of the two volumes and the plane shape of the two volumes are determined to meet the lighting and ventilation needs of the building. The block cuts out more open space, bringing rich activity space for users and nearby residents.

On one side is the millennium-old canal and the ancient Dagoba of Dipamkara Buddha, and on the other side is the commercial sub-center in the future. This building is like an open door, activating the vitality of canal culture, bringing it into people’s lives, and connecting the profound context with the development of urban commercial civilization.

01 - The building block is divided into two parts to ensure the indoor lighting and ventilation. Double tower building make the building at a height of 100m or so more towering to accommodate the regional positioning. Based on the solar track and wind direction, the streamline shape of the two volumes is ensured to make the middle connection area not form the draught.

02 - The southeast block is pressed down to ensure that the north block is not blocked and two connections are added to the two blocks.

03 - The volume of the high-rose area on the north side is reduced to the east and form the high-rise terrace together with the connecting area.

04 - The hole is opened in the middle of the south block and form the bottom terrace together with the middle connecting area.

05 - The bottom part is cut and pierced to provide a more open activity space for the surrounding pedestrians.

06 Steps are set on the underlying terrace to form a relatively open amphitheater.

07 - The formation part of volume and volume forms multiple “air courtyards” at different heights.

08 - The extended balcony make the residents still have their own “courtyard” in current times of full of high-rise buildings. At the same time, double green maintaining structures make the architecture have better insulation, noise reduction and the other functions.

The two connecting parts, as well as the extended balcony jointly form the “air courtyard”. The users jointly maintain the “air courtyard” to realize the interaction between man and man, man and nature, man and architecture.

The eighteenth floor, nineteenth floor and twentieth floor are the living area. In the living area, small private living boxes (containing desks, wardrobes and beds that can climb along the stairs) are put, and outside the box is the space for public activities.

The high-rise part is the office area. The empty space on the northwest side of the building adds a rich sense of space, and also serves as a climbing area for the facade. The connecting part of the west side carries the function of a stepped conference room here.

The sixth floor is largely open to the southeast, and visually surrounding old and new buildings are linked through the building. Moreover, an open open theater is set up in the connection section.

The low-level area is a relatively open space, and multiple multi-directional entrances bring rich open activity space for the surrounding residents and tourists.

Driving Viewing Space

Negotiation is a mutually

involved act. It is not simply a conflict arising in disputes, but a conversation, negotiation, and compromise under contradictions, so as to achieve a situation of mutual benefit and mutual win. The same is true for space negotiations. We should view a contradiction from different perspectives on both sides. Not only should we analyze and transform it based on the existing space, but also create the new space to generate conservation and respond to the negotiation results.

The Drive-in Theater

It was invented by an American, Jr Richard M. Hollingshead, by virtue of the abandoned chemical plant. The sound was played with loudspeakers to the parking lot in the early period, but it may affect the audio effect due to the barrier of the car body. Later, the practice of regional radio jamming appeared and the customers could listen to the movie on the radio in the car.

There are three entrance of the architecture, through which surrounding buildings such as the Art Gallery of New South Wales can be reached. The entrance of the drive-in theater directly connects with the urban roads, with strong accessibility.

The former cafe is connected to the building, for which the guest can acess to multiple fuctions flexible.

Direct upper-and lower-level interactions are formed through the skylights and pools.

It includes pedestrian, dining-room, and open-air ladder movie-watching space. People integrate themselves into the movie as they are walking and moving.

The entrance of drive-in cinemas connects directly to the main city roads. Vehicular passageways and drive-in cinemas form to be two different kinds of movie-watching models.

The building conforms to the height difference of the site, located in the park, and becomes a relatively open community activity place.

The original road streamline is retained and pedestrians can watch the movie when walking, through the volume, to reach the destination.

The drive-in theater, as one kind of space with strong atmosphere, have brought parking space for the surrounding buildings in the narrow cities meanwhile.

The Community For Refugees Constructed By 3d Print

Tutor: Yuan Lin

Date: Aug.2020 - Nov.2020

Location: Goalpara, Assam, India

Acadamic, Individual Work

Economic and solid houses will be rapidly constructed by 3D printing. In a land that almost has lost opportunities, I think about the possibility of reconstructing the hope and warmth in life.

Goalpara is a administrative district of Assam, India, which is in the southwestern region of the state. It is located about 150km west of Guwahati, in the north of Megalaya and near the common international border of Assam and Bangladesh. Most of the migrants have flooded in here. This area includes extremely fertile land zones in the Bramaputra River floodplain and has semi-montane terrain. The Assam landscape includes hilly tea gardens, the Brahmaputra River, monuments, and temples with mild climate and abundant rainfall. Assam has tea trees all over the mountains and fields and Assam black tea is exported to the world.

The site for the intervention is located in the town of Matia located within Goalpara. The town lies on the banks of the Brahmaputra river, and has a primary agricultural economy. As with Goalpara, the town too is rich in biodiversity and abundant scenic beauty. The ecological sensitivity of the region and soil type proves to be rich ground for experimentation with 3D Printing technology. The first and the largest of atleast eleven more detention camps being built right now is in Matia, nearing completion.

Various news sources have reported about in-human living conditions inside camps and prisons, apart from overcrowding and a lack of resources. Fear and depression among detainees is extremely common owing to an uncertain future. Even with the detention camps in place, dignified living for the detainees remains an unattained target. Home ownership remains the primary concern of a number of detainees whose lives were thrown into the whirlwind following the NPR. If they aren’t deported, their lives shall still remain at a standstill with virtually no work opportunities to rebuild their lives.

India, the world’s largest democracy, is also rapidly becoming the center of having the world’s largest refugee crises. Since 1951, Assam is a border country of India and has been facing this influx impact due to its geographical location and common international borders.

About 1.9 million people now have no nationality without obtaining documents due to names, and misspelling errors. They were housed in the existing camp statewide prison. In addition to overcrowding and lack of resources within the detention camps, fear and depression are extremely prevalent among detainees because of the uncertain future.

Building a refugee community quickly and economically through 3d printing while bringing more opportunities and possibilities for their daily lives, work, hopes to reshape life and bring the dignity and warmth as humans should perceive.

The Fast-Constructed Community For Refugees

The community places the assembly area in the center to increase its accessibility . When the traffic flow is small, signs can be set for the traffic flow to detour, forming a circular runway in the periphery of the central area. Plant area set up in the southwest side brings work opportunities to the residents. Residential units shall be arranged at the remaining locations.

The central area of the site is the school, which also carries the functions of community assembly, leisure and entertainment.

The residential units are set up at the remaining locations. The yards with different-degree openness by units enclosure provide rests space of different feeling for the refugees.

Since the main local industry is black tea planting and processing, the main pollution in the processing process is noise, so factories are arranged in the relatively remote southwest side to reduce noise pollution.

Residence Design For The Elder

Tutor: Zhang Hongran

Date: sept.2019-Nov.2019

Location: Chengtian Villige, Fujian, China Acadamic, Individual Work

The project mainly explores the space that is in line with the psychological and physical expectations of the elderly, while taking into account the use needs of three generations from the perspective of the intimate relationship among the families, the neighbors, and the nature.

04

Returning To Nature

The rapid urbanization development in China in the past 40 years is accompanied by the hollowing out of millions of natural villages in rural villages. The rural settlements, as the ecological barrier, the inheritance of cultural context and skills and livable gardens, has been underestimated and neglected in its resources and values. The impractical planning renderings and limited financial input are the main reasons of the sustainable development of hollowing villages. The natural and cultural value of local settlements needs new relations of production and ways of life to activate.

On the one hand, China has begun to enter an aging society, and the dependence of big cities on land finance and the limited environmental carrying capacity make the shortage of pension facilities and high prices. On the other hand, a large number of idle leftbehind villagers in the suburbs of the city live alone. This project will effectively use idle resources to rebuild living communities for the healthy elderly, and form a living community, emotional community and production community with a sense of belonging. Young people work hard and settle down in the city, and the elderly return to the countryside in the suburbs of the city. The close kinship of a big family closely connects the urban and rural space together.

Various Activities Of The Family

Far From The City

the cool in summer carry the memories of people’s childhood and grandparents when they were young. The old house is in disrepair, the yard overgrows with weeds, wormholes and cracks climb wooden pillars and carved doors and windows, and the thick cob walls have crumbling. Due to the huge cost to maintain and renovate, the old house has to be demolished and rebuilt. However, the old house carries the core of the home, so this project retains a part of the above memory elements to rebuild the old house, so that it can meet the use needs of the current family structure and daily activities, and have a certain adaptability to the changes in the next few years.

Activitys

In order to facilitate the activities for the elderly, the elderly activity and collective activity space, middle-aged people activity space, children’s activity space will be arranged in the first floor, the second floor, and the third floor. The neighborhood activity space is arranged near the entrance. More than this, in the narrow section, the hollow space and courtyard is set up to ensure good ventilation and lighting. At the same time, the space arrangement is relatively open, which is interactive both horizontally and vertically.

05 - 1 Study on the Construction of Ancient Pagodas' Cultural Landscape in Fujian Based on GIS First Author, DOI: 10.19875/j.cnki.jzywh.2022.02 .001

Fujian Province is surrounded by mountains and sea, densely covered by rivers. Besides, there are a large number of existing pagodas. The ancient pagodas was built between the mountains and rivers or the city wells, and it played a role in regulating the mountains and rivers and illuminating the scenery in a subtle way. Therefore, this paper takes the ancient pagodas of Fujian as the research object, analyzes the spatial distribution of it (slope and aspect on the scale of micro-topography) and their own scales, and quantitatively explores the general laws of the construction environment of pagodas in Fujian and the impact on the construction of human landscapes.

Conclusion:

01 - From an overall point of view, the overall distribution of ancient pagodas is affected by many factors such as topography, water flow and human activities. There is a certain overlap in the mountain belts of western Fujian, and a number of densely distributed areas are formed at the confluence of rivers and the estuary.

02 - From the perspective of micro-topography, the orientation of ancient pagodas is related to the theory of geomancy. People tend to build ancient pagodas in areas with relatively steep slopes or higher positions to highlight the landmarks of ancient pagodas in the surrounding environment, or Open up the view of the ancient tower as a landscape observation point.

03 - From the perspective of the shape of ancient pagodas, the average height of ancient pagodas in Fujian is more than 10 meters; the plane is dominated by even-numbered sides, of which eight are deformed the most; the number of layers is dominated by odd-numbered layers, of which seven are the most.

04 - From the perspective of humanistic landscape construction, the feng shui pagodas intersecting with the mountains and rivers, as an ancient landmark building, played a role in enlightening the scenery to a certain extent.
