Autobiography/ Study Plan My family runs a business which makes and supplies water systems. Our company business covers design, marketing & production. From my childhood, I have taken part in trade shows and travelled with my father. We have visited more than forty countries and this has broadened my experience about different cultures and product differentiation. This has helped me to confirm my unswerving interest in industrial design and my aspiration to pursue this as a career. I will graduate from Tainan University of Technology in 2014 with a bachelors degree in product design. The course I found most interesting was Universal Design because I found that it covers almost all design knowledge and process and includes all age groups. So long as I can improve on designs that are inconvenient, and give a product an aesthetically pleasing appearance, then that to me is good design. I took professional training courses at Nagoya University of Arts and joined an “experience sharing-international joint-design workshop hosted by Kimura Kazuo former Toyota design director. I also exchanged design methods with local students in 2012. I also joined AQUATECH Amsterdam Show 2013 in Netherlands and REW Istanbul Show in 2010. I also attended the 6th AQUATHERM & EGYPT POOL Show in Cairo in 2011. In my school life, I took the position of Product Design Teaching Assistant in model making and I worked as an intern in the Cultural & Creative Center. That was a memorable experience for me.

I have worked as a graphic designer and product design assistant at Easywell Water Systems, Inc, and have been responsible for design affairs. This experience has helped me to further understand the real problems involved in product design, and given me valuable insight into the processes behind mass production and manufacturing methods. Having design work experiences, my family’s strong encouragement and support from other teachers, I have finally decided to study masters in the UK. I believe I will learn advanced knowledge in Britain that will help me to understand the importance of product design and originality, and also totally help me to change my design thinking. It will help me to address challenges and strive for perfection in the future. Therefore, I realize that, at this stage in my career, I have to develop my professional ability and I am willing to learn more effective and practical teaching methods and techniques to further my knowledge and advance my professional skills. In the future, I hope I can be an excellent product designer or work with other designer in Dyson, HTC or Asus. I believe I can absorb a great deal of professional knowledge on your programme that will serve me well in my future career. I believe that after completing this course, I will increase my competitiveness in the job market and be able to embark on a good career in product design.

Design Background This product is designed for those who work or stay in an outdoor environment, like hikers, surfers or sailors. It provides them with an effective thermos. Through intelligent design, the thermos is activated by shaking and the liquid will heat up to a certain temperature. In other words, the thermos is able to heat up while the user is working or doing any activity which involves shaking. This design is effective for energy saving which is meaningful for the environment. In addition, the thermos is designed for outdoor use with crashproof function and the look of the thermos is translucent which conforms to the latest fashion trends.

The recreational pursuit of canoeing is becoming more and more popular. By incorporating a complete set of safety features into a canoe we can make this activity even more pleasant. There is a lack of emergency safety equipment in canoes and genuine safety equipment is seldom used. There is also the danger if propeller blades are involved. It is my wish to fully integrate emergency safety equipment into the design of a canoe to achieve a new standard of excellence in ergonomic design, appearance and overall user experience.
48 49
Design concept The recreational pursuit of canoeing is becoming more and more popular. However, emergency safety systems in canoes are lacking. However, emergency rescue systems can be incorporated into the design. It has the advantage of being widely and fully used, and can blend with fashionable trends so that it is used often and will not be stored away for long periods leading to deterioration. This design will improve the ergonomics, appearance and user experience of the canoe.
50 51
Design Background When an emergency occurs in water recreational activities we usually find that a jet ski is used to save the people in distress. However, this sometimes can increase the danger because of the sharp propeller blades of the jet ski. Furthermore, the smoke emissions are also dangerous, and not eco-friendly. Should a jet ski be used? - Do the propellors pose a danger? - The person in distress chokes on fumes - Rescue boats are seldom used

Design Background The proliferation of bottles made of polyethylene terephthalate cause environmental pollution and is not hygienic. As a result there has been a gradual increase in the number of people who prefer to carry a water flask with them. However, many flasks on the market have only one function, and furthermore it is not easy to clean them thoroughly to prevent bacteria.
Design Features 1. Environmentally friendly design, with sleek lines to give it a flowing liquid feel 2. A very user friendly bottle mouth which is designed to prevent spillage when drink ing. 3. Bottom screw cap which allows for easy cleaning and drying out. 4. Unique buckle design, allowing for hand carry or hanging on the crossbar of a bicycle.

We searched high and low for a filtered bottle that was beautiful, easy to use and a pleasure to drink from, but we couldn’t find one. So we decided to make our own. After 18 months of brainstorming, sketching, prototyping and generally obsessing over every detail, we’ve found the answer. Our first design requirement for Vivant was to make it look beautiful. After all, we can't expect you to break the bottled water habit if you aren't excited to take Vivant wherever you go.

We also obsessed over the design of Vivant's mouthpiece. It had to feel great on your lips and provide excellent water flow. After testing over a dozen prototypes, we developed a design unlike anything on the market. Most importantly, people love drinking from it. Vivant's filter is made from pure coconut shells. After harvesting, the shells are converted to activated carbon using a proprietary process that minimizes greenhouse gas emissions. Coconut shells are widely recognized as the most effective material for carbon filtration. Unlike coal from underground, which takes millions of years to form and may contain heavy metals, coconut shells are a renewable and health-safe resource. Vivant's filter has been independently tested to exceed NSF 42 standards for chlorine taste and odor removal

Design Background
There are many barbeque machines on the market, but none with features that can solve the problems that they cause (for example, treatment of oil, temperature control, safety considerations, user friendly control panel). These problems still exist in the market, so this new design can improve on existing machines and solve these annoying problems.

The Future Ticket
96 97
Design Concept Railways have always played an indispensable role in transport across centuries. Everyone has an experience of taking a train. And many people will have encountered the problem of queuing for a ticket. Or losing a ticket. And if, after rushing into the station to try to catch a train but having not paid for a ticket yet – what to do? And what if the passenger misses his/her station, and the ticket inspector comes around to inspect the ticket – all these problems…. What if there was a way to solve these problems - wouldn’t this make passengers feel that their train journey was even more convenient?
Design guidelines Using the topic of ticketing as the main focus of this design project would propose that the current standard ticket format be changed to a wristband that could be worn by the passenger The wristband would be available in three All one needs to do is lift up the wrist to obtain ticket information. The wristband would also be fitted with a function that would remind the passenger with points to note. This design would help to streamline the ticket purchase process and help to improve the whole railway environment.
98 99
Design features: 1. The wristband can be adjusted to fit different sizes of wrist 2. The wristband will be fitted with an arrival reminder 3. Stations and wristbands would use RFID sensor system
4. The wristband will have a multi point touch-screen 5. Made of durable silicone material 6. Kinds of wristband: public and personal, already paid for and not yet paid for.

Design Background Memories to me are the salt and pepper of life: essential. In the city of Tainan, with its simple style, it is even easier to feel their warmth. Using geometrics to outline the black spoonbill (a symbol of Tainan culture). Using the simplicity of Tainan and modern geometry for the design – these two do not conflict with each other. The unexpected combined with the culture into a consistent feeling is especially interesting.

Design features Ceramic materials show the simple curves of the Black Spoonbill. It’s distinctive black bill forms the shape of a spoon. This spoon can dig out the condiments and measure exactly the amount needed.
