Fresh faculty 15 new staff members join the JDS community Ivan Endelman Features Editor
Samantha Hobbs will be working in the middle school guidance department and recently moved from Virginia Beach. Hobbs loves going outdoors and doing activities such as hiking with her dog. Additionally, Hobbs enjoys baking gluten-free treats and spending time with her family. As she is new to the area, Hobbs is excited to meet all the students, families and faculty at JDS.
Dory Fox is a JDS alumni who will be working as a high school English teacher during the upcoming school year. An avid reader, Fox also enjoys outside activities such as hiking, bike riding and swimming. Additionally, Fox has enjoyed knitting for years and has taken up bookmaking as well.
Fox went on a camping trip to Mt. Rainier, Wa few summers ago.
Daniel Gabel will be working as a study hall teacher for the upcoming year. He graduated from Binghamton University with a major in Human Development. Outside of school, he enjoys bowling ŔȥƎ ˁŔʋƃǠǫȥnj bȶɭȟʠȍŔ ࠀ ɭŔƃǫȥnjࡲ eŔŹơȍ ǫɽ ɢŔɭʋǫƃʠȍŔɭȍˊ ơˉƃǫʋơƎ ʋȶ ȍơŔɭȥ ȟȶɭơ ŔŹȶʠʋ ʋǠơ ˪ơȍƎ ȶlj ơƎʠƃŔʋǫȶȥ ŔȥƎ ɢȶʋơȥʋǫŔȍȍˊ ɢʠɭɽʠơ Ŕ ȟŔɽʋơɭࢫɽ Ǝơnjɭơơ ǫȥ ʋǠŔʋ ˪ơȍƎࡲ qơ ǫɽ Ŕȍɽȶ ơƃɽʋŔʋǫƃ ʋȶ Źơ ˁȶɭȇǫȥnj ǫȥ࢚ person again. Melissa Andrew will be working as a high school biology teacher. Outside of school, Andrew is a mother of three children and works with several card making companies by designing cards for online shops and catalogs. Andrew considers herself an avid science geek and researched at Children’s National Medical Center. Andrew portrays her favorite work on her personal website, called Melissamade2.
Sherry Benedek is a music teacher for both the middle school and high school. Outside of school Benedek loves swing dancing. While it was put on hold during the pandemic, Benedek can’t wait to begin swing dancing again. Benedek has also participated in musicals, such as when she played Fiona in “Shrek” and Jo in “Little Women.”
